FWIW, this report was done in August 2018.
Suggestion, if the client wants an EPS that can be opened in Adobe Illustrator ( for whatever reason ) do the following:

Export to PDF/X-4 with no downsampling of images or color conversion.
Open the PDF in Acrobat Pro and use Acrobat's Preflight to convert all text to outlines.

Then you could open the PDF in Adobe Illustrator.
NOTE: At that point you have to decide to what color space ALL the elements in the PDF should be converted to. RGB or CMYK. There is no other choice.

After you opened the PDF and decided the color space, you could save as AI file or even export to EPS that a customer is able to open with Illustrator.

FWIW: I had no problem exporting to EPS with PostScript 3 and render the EPS with PhotoShop CS6 or PhotoShop CC 2018. I'm on Windows 10 (1803).

As a workaround export the document to PDF/X-4 and open that with PhotoShop.

    Hi annemarie,
if someone likes to test this case you have to provide images and used fonts as well.

    FIXED  ·  amaarora responded

The fix is now publicly available in the latest InDesign update, 15.1.1

Please update to this latest version to get the fix.

The bug is back with InDesign 2022.
Don't know if this is exactly the same bug that was fixed with 15.1.1, but I can see the same error message "Cannot place this file. Invalid PNG file" AGAIN in InDesign 2022 version 17.3.0.
Not with my InDesign 2021 version 16.4.2 which is running side-by-side on the same Windows 10 machine.

Test files, PNG files from Fireworks, can be downloaded from this post here:

    https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/the-quot-cannot-place-file-invalid-png-file-quot-bug-is-back-in-the-latest-release-of-indesign-17-0/m-p/13064370#M483860

Two videos showing the issue and a possible cause for this, not flattened PNGs from Fireworks, can be downloaded here:

    https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/the-quot-cannot-place-file-invalid-png-file-quot-bug-is-back-in-the-latest-release-of-indesign-17-0/m-p/13064559#M483873

    https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/the-quot-cannot-place-file-invalid-png-file-quot-bug-is-back-in-the-latest-release-of-indesign-17-0/m-p/13064791#M483882

See also my post in the same discussion where I tested with the PNG files from user TidbitsofSoCo:

    https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/the-quot-cannot-place-file-invalid-png-file-quot-bug-is-back-in-the-latest-release-of-indesign-17-0/m-p/13064893#M483886

The only workaround I see is to open the PNG files with PhotoShop and save them again with the Legacy Save to Web dialog. The meta data from Fireworks will be removed in the process. And again: No issue with that workflow with my German InDesign 2021 16.4.2 on Windows 10.

    Hi Brian,
    just tested with appliedGraphicObjectStyle.
    All the same.

With my German InDesign the error number is 30477, the message is:
"Ungültiger Wert für Einrichtung der Eigenschaft "appliedGraphicObjectStyle". ObjectStyle or String erwartet, aber ObjectStyle erhalten."
    that translates to:
"Invalid value for set property '"appliedGraphicObjectStyle"'. Expected ObjectStyle or String, but received ObjectStyle"

    Hi Tobias,
thank you for this feature request!

A cell or a row should also be aware of its position on the page or on the spread.
So something like geometricBounds or visibleBounds for a cell or a row would be very handy.

    Hi developers,

one workaround is to scale the object to e.g. 400%.
    Outlining should work then.
Scale back the result to 25%.

Note: That bug is new with InDesign 2022 version 17.
Had a document that I tested with InDesign 2021 and InDesign CS6. No issue. It's just with InDesign version 17.

We've just released InDesign 17.2.1 version which addresses this issue.

Please update to this latest version using Creative Cloud Desktop application.

In case the fix does not work immediately for you, please try the following:

    1) Quit InDesign.

    2) Delete the following:

    on Mac:

    /Users/[yourname]/Library/Caches/Adobe InDesign

    /Users/[yourname]/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign

    on Win:

    C:\Users\[yourname]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\InDesign

    C:\Users\[yourname]\AppData\Local\Adobe\InDesign

Relaunch InDesign & see if it works properly now.

    Core feature and workflow

Unable to use some random fonts in InDesign.

@Ayanna: version 17.2.1 is rolled out in a phased manner to different regions of the world.
I'm in Germany and hope that it will be available by the end of April 2022.

    Hi Deborah,
fingers crossed, my issue with a not showing up font from a Document fonts folder was fixed by restarting my Windows 10 machine. Had this with InDesign 17.1.0.50 and the prerelease version 17.2.0.18. The same Document fonts folder worked for InDesign documents with versions 16.4 and below also installed on the same machine.

Here comes a crude work around:
Place the multi-page PDF on InDesign pages automatically using a script like this one:

    https://github.com/mike-edel/ID-MultiPageImporter/releases

    Save the InDesign document.
Place the InDesign document pages instead of the PDF pages.
That still is working with previously drawn out graphic frames.
