[ID-4281542]Unable to move multiple objects when selecting image frames
With the latest version of Indesign (21.4) I can't move multiple image frames any more unless I group them. This also applies when selecting an image frame and graphic elements such as rectangles or text frames, everything else deselects and stays put with the image moving. Except when I click and drag on the non image frame of the selection, then everything works as it should. Can you please fix this as it is highly annoying.
Mac OS 26.5, Indesign 21.4
Workaround:
- Holding the Shift key while dragging allows the entire selection to move correctly.
- Rolling back from InDesign 21.4 to InDesign 21.3 resolves the issue.
The team is working on a fix. We plan to make the fix available to all users soon.
Thank you for your patience & support.

Same issue... was driving me NUTS on a project yesterday. Not that I wish this trouble on anyone else, but glad to know I'm not the only one. Also having issues with deselecting and with selecting key objects. These are those little things that you don't notice you use as much as you do until it is broken... looking forward to a prompt fix.

I'm experiencing the same issue. When I have multiple objects selected and attempt to click one of them to designate it as the key object, InDesign deselects all of the other objects instead. This behavior is extremely disruptive and significantly slows down my workflow.
Please investigate and resolve this issue as soon as possible, as it appears to be a serious bug affecting object alignment and positioning tasks.

Extremely annoying for those of us who have used indesign for decades and rely on muscle memory 😖

I dislike having a subscription, one because it feels like extortion (pay us, or you'll no longer be able to access your work), but also because it means you find yourself with new bugs.
Years ago you could buy the software, update for bug fixes and work around others, then keep a stable and predictable platform to work on. The one mentioned in this thread is a basic and much used function and needs fixing ASAP. -

Also indesign isn't showing the correct tool is selected on the mouse when changing tools, very annoying

**In addition to this issue:**
1. If I select multiple objects and, while holding down the **Shift** key, try to deselect some of them, nothing happens. None of the objects selected with **left mouse click + Shift** are deselected.
2. If I select multiple objects and then try, while the selection is still active, to select one of them to make it the **Key Object** in order to align or distribute the other objects relative to it, the multiple selection disappears and only the object that was supposed to become the **Key Object** remains selected.

I’m also seeing this issue in InDesign 21.4 on macOS. When I Shift-select or marquee-select multiple page items and then try to move the selection, the full selection is not preserved; only one item moves, or another selected item is deselected, especially when the drag starts over a placed image/content frame. This is a regression from prior behavior, where the selected objects moved together as expected. This makes basic multi-object positioning unreliable in normal layout work. THe suggested workaround (hold the shift key while moving objecst) works but it is, all the same, aberrant behavior. I'm looking forward to a prompt fix... Thanks.

Same problem here, Please fix quickly.
This also applies to alignment of multiple frames. When using 'align to key object', you can select a text frame as key object, but when you select an image frame as key object, only the image frame you clicked on retains selected. The other frames all gets deselected. The function does work if the key object is a group of image frames though.
Ouch this is not fun. please fix ASAP. you are Breaking my work flow. Help!!!

I see the exact behavior which seems to be introduced in the latest ID 21.4 update.
