InDesign 2020 won't overwrite PDF
Since updating to Indesign 2020 I can't overwrite pdf files from the export menu it says 'file is still open' when it's not. Yet another thing broken on the yearly beta test.

Fix for this issue is now available in the latest update of InDesign 2020 – that is, InDesign 15.1.2
In the Creative Cloud Desktop application, click on the Updates section on the left. You should be able to see the Update available for InDesign. Please update your InDesign application to this version to try out the fix.
Let us know in the comments section if you still face this problem.

We are having the same problem at work. I am on InDesign 2020 on macOS Mojave. I make sure no other application has the file open going as far as quitting all the other apps and restarting the finder. This issue results in having to have multiple versions of PDFs. Please fix ASAP!

Our company is having the same problem. This is such a basic workflow, how could it get messed up?

the only workaround I have found is deleting the old file you want to overwrite, manually.

Once you trip that flag it doesn't reset. Closing Acrobat doesn't help either. I have so many files in my proof folders now!

Having this same issue as well. Even if I close Acrobat, it still says the PDF is open. Currently working on Mojave OS. Please fix!

I'm using InDesign 2020 for a few days and now I'm having trouble in overwriting a PDF on a server. When I have adjustments to an InDesign document and want to overwrite the PDF on a server I get the notification that the pdf is already open and cannot be overwritten. But it's not open and also not selected. With the previous versions I didn't have that problem.

Another side-effect surely related. When exporting PDF going to prepress workflow, in prior versions export PDFs directly to hot folder and once writing complete, InDesign releases lock on file and workflow picks it up. New version ID 2020 now retains lock on file even when writing is complete, so prepress workflow never takes files in hot folder. File is essentially locked forever. Only solution is to close ID app on Mac. So workaround have to close ID after exporting PDF every job, then re-open. Definite bug.
