InDesign 2020 won't overwrite PDF
Since updating to Indesign 2020 I can't overwrite pdf files from the export menu it says 'file is still open' when it's not. Yet another thing broken on the yearly beta test.
Fix for this issue is now available in the latest update of InDesign 2020 – that is, InDesign 15.1.2
In the Creative Cloud Desktop application, click on the Updates section on the left. You should be able to see the Update available for InDesign. Please update your InDesign application to this version to try out the fix.
Let us know in the comments section if you still face this problem.

I cannot overwrite PDFs on the same day, because of the attached error. This occurs when the file can be closed and when the program is closed. You have to delete the PDF before you can reserve it.
The same here ... 2020 Indesign on macOS High Sierra over smb Synology NAS. Save and overrite on desktop works without problems.
updated CS a few days ago. Sure wish I would have seen this thread first. Having the same problem everyone else is reporting.
Has this been fixed yet? I have had days of file lock permission problems with IND and illo. I need to get some work done. Please advise when it will be functioning software worth paying for again, rather than the latest beta that has once again bought the media departments production to a halt.
Cannot export over existing PDFs on our SMB server. Error says "PDF is already open".
Looking at InDesign in Activity Monitor (macOS Mojave), it shows the name of each PDF I've exported in the list of "Open Files and Ports". Quitting InDesign or manually deleting the PDF from the Finder first seems to be only solutions. Exporting to local disks seem to release/close exported PDFs as expected.
Running 2020 with 10.13.6 and am getting this error.
I'm working in 15.0 and Mac Catalina, and as of now I'm still running into the same problem, however I do not receive a error message. Instead it opens the existing un-edited PDF file in Acrobat (I have view PDF after exporting checked).

This is a function our team uses multiple times daily. It's become a bad dream. Please expedite this fix. Thank you.

I'm sure glad I read about this problem before installing the update. I will wait until it is fixed.

so far the most straightforward work-around is obviously saving the file to an alternate location on the hard drive and then manually overwriting using the finder...
I am having the same problem with InDesign 2020 not allowing overwrites to pdf files.
Also having this issue. 2020 Indesign on macOS Catalina over smb share to Synology NAS.
Yeah, this bug is a productivity killer.
