1. spinning beach ball when clicking into text box

   When clicking on a text box to edit text or move box, spinning beach ball delays response by 5 seconds to over a minute. Happens with text tool or select tools. Only way to solve this issue is to work offline. My internet is fine. I use many other apps besides indd and do not have delay issues. Never had a problem prior to the integration of Typekit in most recent versions. MacOS 10.14.3.
   Attached are some screen grabs showing recent freezes. Spinning beach ball is not visible, but that's what I am seeing. Thank you for your attention.

2. Overall performance poor

   The program takes 3-4 minutes trying to launch, then quits, generating an unexpected error report. It does this 2 times again before it will open the 3rd time. Making it nearly 12 minutes before it is actually usable.

   Fonts: when a text box or text is clicked or selected, without exception, there is a long delay and spinning ball prior to being able to do anything with the text. Suitcase Fuision 19.1.1 is the font management program and they claim the problem is with Adobe.

   Paste in place: sporadically the "paste in place", doesn't work properly–both through key command and pull down menu. It pastes wherever it feels like, even after restarting sometimes, (which creates the delay again opening).

   Linking: often it will not automatically check folders for links, despite this feature being checked and relink to last location selected in preferences. Manual linking must be done. In books, this costs dearly in time lost.

   These may seem like small inconveniences, but when you are hammering through dozens of files a day this is incredibly time consuming and a huge waste of my time. Which is my billable time.

   It isn't the system or hardware; with the latest and greatest Mac, with a solid state drive and plenty of room to manoeuvre, it plows through massive AE files and can handle Maya files. There is something wrong that ID is requiring so much CPU to handle what it used to do in a snap. If that's what the issue is. I haven't a clue why it's performing so badly wit this last iteration.

3. Slow lag time typing and generating raster image

   I have not had this problem before but there is about a 2 second lag on everything from typing to panning around. I have aerial images via PDFs linked into the file (5 of them) and I'm placing leaders and text on top. The document is only 5 pages and it's very frustrating-please help!

4. [InCopy] is very slow with some projects, even on a very fast Computer

   We often see a pretty significant drop in performance in InCopy for no apparent reason. This seems to occur on random Projects. As far as i could test there was no correlation with the number of InCopy Files or the complexity of the layout.

5. Can't scroll through pages in presentation mode

   2017.1 Release, 12.1.0.56 Build
   macOS Sierra version 10.12.6

   When I go to the presentation mode, I am not able to scroll through the pages. Whether i use the trackpad, arrow keys, or change the keyboard shortcuts.

   Hello All,
   There has to be a scenario in which the scrolling of the document is not working in presentation mode because, otherwise it is not reproducible at our end.
   I can observe that, pages do not scroll while making a vertical gesture on the mouse, but through other methods such as, click, arrow key pages can be scrolled easily.

   Are you able to scroll using clicks and arrow keys?
   Is it the case that, the issue is intermittent or only happens in a specific scenario?
   Also, let us know your machine details such its configuration, OS version and Id version

   This can help us to get to the bottom of the issue

6. Workspace resets every time I open (InDesign 2026)

   On the new InDesign (v21.0) all of my workspaces have been reset and aren't saving properly every time I open a new document. I even set up my docked tabs and tab groups and saved them to a NEW workspace within a fresh 2026 file, and it reset to a default state next time it's opened. It seems to ignore all of the tools I've chosen to remove from their tab groups and opens with all of the default tools within those tab groups.

   The screenshot with all of the icons is what all of my workspaces revert to upon opening InDesign 2026, while the other screenshot is what I've saved my workspace to include.

   On the new InDesign (v21.0) all of my workspaces have been reset and aren't saving properly every time I open a new document. 7. [ID-4264855] Issue with Animated Zoom in GPU

   New PC GPU zoom doesn't seem to centre the zoom on the cursor leading to not super useful behaviour (you have to zoom and then drag with the hand tool to get back to what you were originally trying to zoom into). It's very disorientating.

8. Lag in 20.0 and higher

   The lag in 20.0 and its updates is hard to stomach. We pay a lot for this app and it is VERY difficult to work with these issues. Evey time I click on something in a document - no matter how large a file - there is lag. Text boxes, images, color shapes/boxes. I have a brand new Mac Studio with Apple M2 Ultra and 128GB Memory - I have more than enough power to support your app. PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE. I have tried all of the troubleshooting offered to no avail, and I shouldn't have to trouble shoot to make it function properly.

9. History panel erases undo option and history steps (behavior different from previous version) and

   The history panel seems to be limited to 5 actions. Additionally, with the latest update (20.2), if you access the history panel at all, it overtakes the Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Shift+Z function for undo/redo as it has worked in the past.

   When the history panel is opened, it selects the most recent action. Even if the panel is closed, whatever is done after this point erases all the other actions, so that you are left with "open" as the previous step. Edit>Undo (Ctrl+Z) is disabled, and you can no longer undo work.

   Additionally, steps will sometimes combine themselves without any user action. (i.e. while documenting this, in between image 3-4 no action was taken except to switch between InDesign and the screen capture program). Switching in/out of InDesign erases the ability to undo work.

   If you type 6-7 characters, you can no longer undo anything prior to that. Open the history window, select a step, then place something.... undo is now limited to the place action; all other history steps are erased (as well as Ctrl+Z undo/redo steps).

   This is a huge step in the wrong direction.

   There are seemingly no settings related to history (unlike in Photoshop where a number of steps can be preserved). Iteration/layout experimentation is critical in InDesign and this update removes the ability to do that without incessantly creating a snapshot every time you do something or type more than a few characters.

10. shortcut presets resets to default

    Several people in our team have the problem.
    That every time we restart InDesign CC23 (18.5) the shortcut set is reset to default. the saved shortcut set is still availlable but we have to select it again.

    We work on MacOS 13.6 with Apple M1 Chips.

11. High Cpu Usage indesign 2021-2022-2023-2024 versions...

    Hello, unfortunately I have this problem too, it constantly uses 30% of the processor when idle, I tried everything, but the problem is completely related to the new indesign versions. Adobe has not made a fix on this issue yet, when will you fix it, Adobe?

    I never experienced this problem in old versions. This problem is valid for 2021-2022-2023-2024 versions.

    I tested by installing all Indesign versions on my computer and found that the only problematic versions were versions 2021 and above.

    From the attached images, you can see the CPU usage of the 2020 version and the 2021 version. 2020 has no problems, but the 2021 version uses high processor idle.

12. tool bars

    Tool bars do not appear when opening InDesign 18.0 CC 2023. I have to go to Window, turn on Show Application Frame, then flip that off to have my tool bars visible. This is the case in Photoshop and Illustrator 2023

13. No multicore, no gpu support this is RIDICULOUS

    Okay hear me out, I know for a fact this has been brought up I know.

    However in 2022 a multinational company doesn't support multicore and gpu performance for windows this is just insane, it's the biggest F U to the community.
    How I'm supposed to work on anything if my performance is garbage with VERY FEW OBJECTS, now you might say ah yes just press typical performance or fast perfomance if your pc is struggling. I have a proper pc (i9 9900k, 32gb ram, rtx 2080) really if this gear STRUGGLES with TEXT editing I'm speachless, for the sake of keeping your customers loyal add a GPU SUPPORT FOR INDESIGN ON WINDOWS HOW YOU DONT HAVE IT????? why my performance is so bad only because you don't have gpu support in 2022?

14. High CPU use with version 17.1

    This has already been posted for 17.0 by another user. I installed 17.1 yesterday, because I needed to open a specific file and compared to the 14.0.3 which I use all the time, the 17.1 uses 1/4 of CPU power after start while no document is opened and it actually does nothing. This remains for several minutes, then goes down to 0. The attached picture shows that both versions are running (no files open).

15. De-Stick Alt Key After Zoom

    When I press and hold the ALT key (Windows) to zoom with the mouse wheel, it doesn't release the way a sticky key should - once finished with mouse wheel zooming, I have to tap the Alt key a -second- time to release it. Not doing this results in the menu bar becoming active. Example: Press and hold Alt and zoom with the wheel. Finish zooming and release the sticky alt key. Now Tap the letter W to enter Preview mode ... but instead of Preview Mode, InDesign will drop down the --W--indow Menu, tapping W again then drops down the --W--orkspace menu etc. This is a workflow killer.

    Adobe has other sticky keys that muscle memories remember (space bar, etc..) so to expect a) the user to remember that this tool behaves -different- and b) the user now has to add -additional- key strokes makes for a bad user interface experience.

16. Shortcuts register/work without modifier key

    You can enter one letter, number, and symbol to keyboard shortcuts for Style Options.
    The characters you typed are not displayed, but starting with InDesign 2020(15), it will act as a shortcut.
    This should be disabled.
    Prior to InDesign 2019(14), registration did not work.
    Common for Mac and Windows version.

17. Background Task menu thingy keeps spinning

    Though all Background Tasks are completed, an annoying blue circle keeps spinning in the menu bar.

18. Montserrat Font Constantly trying to load in InDesign

    Whenever I open an InDesign file the background task starts up and it is Montserrat Bold trying to load. This occurs no matter what file I have open and whether or not the file uses the font being loaded.

19. Activating Font

    My Indesign will randomly start trying to activate source sans pro fonts and will not ever finish activating. I can't cancel it, I can't go online to adobe fonts and decative and then active because it says there is a conflict. Because it's syncing it won't export any of my files until it's done ... and it's never done. The only way I get it to work is to force quit Indesign and it will work until it randomly starts trying to activate it again and the cycle repeats.

20. Spinning wheel keeps running make program not responding

    When starting up InDesign 2020 (15.0.3) it runs a ok for a couple of minutes, then the spinning wheel comes on/off randomly. When on its impossible to use the program.
    Its the program CEP Html Engine causing the problem. A lot of instances is started up (se attached image). Tried to debug the problem and found that its the file cef.pak (in CEP Program folder) that’s the problem. When removing this, everything is fine except that the startup popup is missing.
