[ID-4271100]With Application Frame "OFF", Green Maximize Button Doesn't Zoom to Fit Anymore
ID 21.0
OSX 15.7.1
Just updated ID and all the previous docs I've been working on today, are opening in huge windows. It takes a few resizes to scale down the window, then grabbing the bottom right corner to resize the window finally, it's jumping away from the cursor.
Resizing windows when tiling still does that (as per the previous version/bug), which is also super annoying. Please fix all these bugs!! It's like no one at Adobe uses these products

The fix of the issue is now available in the latest InDesign 2026(v21.0.1.006). We recommend you upgrade to the latest version for the fix.
If you are unable to see the update, go to the Creative Cloud application, click on the context menu on the top right, and click on Check for App Updates.

(v21.0.1.006). This update hasn't appeared for me for a week, even though I've been pushing the update! WHY???? Maybe if they tried to use it, the errors would be immediately revealed!

I tested it but there is another bug : when ya file is opened and you open another, instead of appearing inside the curent window, it enlarges the window in full size. If you open a third doc, it enlarges the window larger than the screen…

Thanks Sanyam! I can't get the pre-release build to show up in Adobe Creative Cloud. I have the Illustrator Pre-Release build, but the InDesign one won't show up. I followed the instructions on the Pre-Release web page, and tried signing out and in on the Creative Cloud app.

On macOS I work without application frame and my dock is vertically placed at the left edge of the screen.
In the InDesign 21.0 document windows maximize in the wrong way: The window is expanded to the left up to the screen edge without taking into the consideration position of the dock. But the toolbars are placed correctly.
In order to reproduce:
* Put your dock at the left edge of the screen
* Switch off application frame
* Maximize windows (green button) holding Alt to switch into + mode (do not use fullscreen mode).System: macOS 15.7.1 (24G231)

Is this close to a fix, I thought today’s update may have resolved it.

When clicking the green "maximize" button on mac, the document window goes over to real full screen mode and is not accessible without dismounting my work space to get back to the green button.
Also, when opening multiple files, the window does not stop at screen docked palettes or the dock like in the versions before. I have to manually move and resize the window every time. -

When pressing the Full Screen button on iOS (the green button in the window of an open document), InDesign enters full screen mode, but there’s no way to exit it. The only way I’ve found to leave this mode is to restart the program. The ESC key does nothing. I’m using version 21.0 on macOS Sequoia 15.6 (Mac Studio).

Issue:
When maximising the InDesign document window (without entering full-screen mode), the artboard is rendered behind all docked panels and also goes behind the macOS Dock. This makes parts of the workspace inaccessible. I am not use 'Application Frame'.
Expected behaviour:
The artboard should remain fully visible in front of all panels and above the macOS Dock when the window is maximised.
Workaround:
Manually resizing or repositioning the window restores visibility.

Update: trashing the usual preference files (as long as Indesign takes to launch, you'd think it might occasionally check those for corruption) and relaunching Indesign seems to have fixed the tiny-window-on-open behavior.
The annoying window-zoom-ignores-panels behavior persists.

Since update to v 21.0 on Mac,, with "application frame" turned off, files open into a tiny 150px square window. Opening any file also resizes (shrinks) any already opened documents when the new doc opens in a new tab.
• 100% reproducible — happens every time.
• Completely new behavior starting with the 21.0 update.
• Expected previous behavior is for a new document to open in a new tab without resizing already open docs.Likely related new faulty "zoom" when resizing an open window using the green button while holding down option key (without option enters full screen mode). This would be the easiest workaround, to zoom the shrunken window back to optimal size, but that behavior has also changed: window zoom now in v21.0 now ignores panel position and extends document window to the edges of the screen under the panels.
• Expected previous behavior is for the document window to expand to the edges of panels docked to screen edges, not extending under them.
No, I don't want to turn on the application frame. I don't particularly like it. The general windowing interface should be expected to work fine without it.

Each time I open a document (Indesign 21), I have to resize the window so I can see the status bar (where the Preflight lives).
It would be nice if a document window opens with the status bar visible, so I don't have to alt-click the green dot every time I open a document. -

On Mac OS, if you clic on green dot (upper left), instead of resizing the window to its larger possible size, the software switch to full screen mode but there is no way to go back (except if you quit InDesign). This change is not welcome ! I want to see finder in background !!! InDesign 2026 goes immediately to trash.

Since the Update to InDesign 2026 (version 21.0) document windows no longer respect panel/palette windows when not using "Application frame". New documents are created behind all panel/palette windows and need to be rearanged by hand. If the zoom button is used the documents window again expaned to use all the space behind all panel/palette windows.
This does *not* happen in Illustrator or Photoshop or even the previous InDesign 2025 (version 20.5). There a new document windows uses the screen space that is left free from the panel/palette windows. And when you use the zoom button it fills to this same free space.

The new InDesign 2026 update completely ruined the window management on macOS. When clicking the green maximize button, the app now jumps into full-screen mode instead of simply maximizing the window as before. There is no way to disable or revert this behavior.
Whoever decided this clearly doesn’t use InDesign for real professional work. Constantly jumping windows and forced full screen make the app nearly unusable for layout professionals. It breaks focus, interrupts workflow, and wastes valuable production time.
Please bring back the previous window behavior, or at least give users an option to disable this forced full-screen mode. This is not an upgrade, it’s a huge step backward. A professional layout tool should enhance control, not take it away.
Version: InDesign 2026 (macOS)
Category: Performance/Usability
Expected result: Window should resize normally without entering full-screen
Actual result: Green button forces full-screen mode, destroying workspace flexibility -

Version: InDesign 21.0, MacOS 15.6.1
Steps: Opening any document or making new document. Application Frame off.
Expected: Document window should expand to the edge of docked pallets but not go underneath them (behavior prior to v21.0)
Actual: Document window always expands to the screen edge underneath any/all open pallets.

Yes application frame doesn't have the issue but I've never been a fan of it. Beta is fine, just the new 2026 version
