Major System Font Issue!
WHAT THE FONT!?!
Our publishing company recently ran the InDesign update (to 15.0.2) and have discovered some major font issues. I have narrowed it down to InDesign 15.0.2, macOS Catalina 10.15.3, and Suitcase Fusion 21.0.0. I actually don't think Suitcase has too much to do with this, because the problem occurred after the InDesign update, but it's our font management software so I'm including it. Basically it appears system fonts have become problematic with InDesign. Packaged files are suddenly showing up with lots of the dreaded pink. I have tested about everything I can. I even created some very simple type only files that are having system font issues as well. Sometimes the document will open ok and the fonts will appear fine. Then when I go to export, the system fonts turn pink. Sometimes the file can't open the fonts at all and they start out and remain highlighted pink. Other times it will open but them shut off a few seconds later. It's only happening with system fonts. I have included screen shots for reference. I hope this issue can be fixed asap because it's font chaos over here! Thank you.
The fix for this issue is now available in the latest update of InDesign – version 16.1
Please update to this version to get the fix.

This has not been fixed, running InDesign 15.1.1 on Macbook Pro OS 10.14.6. System fonts (such as Avenir Next) are activated and functioning properly and then suddenly displaying random glyphs in an InDesign document instead of the actual typeface. Please fix!

SO IRRITATED! NOT FIXED! I prepared rack-cards and are print ready. Updated to the 15.1.1 version and none of the fonts are accepted/recognized. EVEN when they appear in the drop down. Now my text doesn't show up. I actually re-installed an older version so I could at LEAST access fonts that version accepted as this job needs to go out ASAP. even though it is tedious- at least it WORKS!
SO FRUSTRATING!!!!!

I just had this same issue. Someone recommended deleting the fonts folder in the Collect For Output folder of your document. I did that, opened the file and it worked perfectly. Great save as I have 35 brochures designed with Avenir as the main font.

This is ridiculous.... I don't understand how InDesign can have 3 updates (one even a hot fix) and this still hasn't been resolved.
Just because it's flagged as fixed doesn't mean that it actually is.
PLEASE EXPEDITE as it is tedious opening, closing and reopening files hoping to get the fonts to stay on, especially the Avenir family.

I had this error with Avenir, which is a default Mac font so it was EXTRA bizarre. However, turned out InDesign was getting confused because it was a "Packaged" InDesign file I had received that contained an additional copy of the font in "Document Fonts" - remove the document fonts folder, file works perfectly.

No not fixed. Definitely not fixed. My Helvetica Neue won't work - I have to send a job to print this morning.
EDIT FOR ALL THE OTHER PEOPLE WHO ARE DESPERATE FOR HELP: It seems to only happen when the file is packaged in a folder ready for print. Try creating the PDF before packaging and it may work for you like it has me.

This is not fixed. Still having this issue with Helvetica Neue in v15.1. When I open my file it seems OK but when I try to export it tells me the font is not found and can't replace with the Helvetica Neue I see on the list... doesn't do anything.

I saw that InDesign 15.1 came out today and updated to it, but I still had the problem with InDesign not finding a font family I use all the time. Out of frustration, I contacted Adobe support and was told that since the font was not an Adobe font, I should contact the font maker. I knew there wasn't a problem with the font because the font worked fine in the latest PhotoShop 21.2.0 which I installed today, and it worked fine in all my other applications.
I checked my InDesign setup and saw that I had the font Iowan Old Style.ttc in both the Adobe InDesign 2020->Fonts folder and the Library->Fonts folder. I removed the copy from the Adobe InDesign 2020->Fonts folder, restarted Adobe InDesign 15.1, and the problem with InDesign not finding the font went away. I am relieved because I use that font in hundreds of documents, and if InDesign could no longer find the font, I was looking at finding an alternative to using InDesign.
InDesign versions up through 15.0.1 had no problem dealing with a font being in more than one folder, but starting with version 15.0.2, InDesign, including version 15.1, couldn't handle the setup.
So, if you are having the similar problem, you might check to see if you have the font(s) InDesign can't find in more than one Font folder on your system.
I am using InDesign 15.1 on a MacBook Pro running MacOS 10.15.5. -

Issue not fixed! Helvetica works, but Helvetica Bold and Bold Oblique do not. Nothing but pink and frustration.

The issue has not been fixed, BUT it seems to mostly happen to me AFTER I use the File/Package feature. If I open the file after that I start to get folders with the same name (but only with the "Document" fonts inside) and keeps duplicating every time I open the same file until I quit Indesign. If I open the Indesign file inside that packaged (or any packaged folder) I get the same fonts issues (messages that avenir or other fonts won't work unless I do multiple re-opens) Consequently, I am not packaging files (which is NOT optimal in my work). Oddly, it does somewhat seem to resolve if I delete the fonts folder inside the packaged file. At any rate, it's NOT fixed in 15:03

The system fonts issue that Adobe has claimed to be fixed in the 15.0.3 update has not been fixed. Indesign on Mojave will not recognize Avenir and Avenir Next.
Adobe, please make a priority to revisit this issue and correct, it is causing major issues. We have two large clients as well who use Avenir as primary fonts in their publications, and it is stalling their production.
In the meantime, please offer any suggestions for workarounds, so that us and our clientele do not continue to lose time and money.

Having the same issues with Helvetica font family in Catalina 10.15.5. Helvetica works, but Bold, Oblique, etc. show up as a pink box.

NOT FIXED. Avenir issue is still occurring with 15.0.3 on Mojave.
Seriously, Adobe, your quality control is getting worse with every release.
