I am also having this problem, on my iMac (late 2015, running 10.13.1) with Indesign CC 2108 (latest release). I select a line of text in a text frame, open the Font dropdown menu in the Character palette, select Minion Pro, and on click the application crashes.

I am also having this problem. It's a huge issue, as I work at a publisher and we very frequently have to package entire book files to send to the printer or typesetter.
This has not been fixed, running InDesign 15.1.1 on Macbook Pro OS 10.14.6. System fonts (such as Avenir Next) are activated and functioning properly and then suddenly displaying random glyphs in an InDesign document instead of the actual typeface. Please fix!
