Major System Font Issue!
WHAT THE FONT!?!
Our publishing company recently ran the InDesign update (to 15.0.2) and have discovered some major font issues. I have narrowed it down to InDesign 15.0.2, macOS Catalina 10.15.3, and Suitcase Fusion 21.0.0. I actually don't think Suitcase has too much to do with this, because the problem occurred after the InDesign update, but it's our font management software so I'm including it. Basically it appears system fonts have become problematic with InDesign. Packaged files are suddenly showing up with lots of the dreaded pink. I have tested about everything I can. I even created some very simple type only files that are having system font issues as well. Sometimes the document will open ok and the fonts will appear fine. Then when I go to export, the system fonts turn pink. Sometimes the file can't open the fonts at all and they start out and remain highlighted pink. Other times it will open but them shut off a few seconds later. It's only happening with system fonts. I have included screen shots for reference. I hope this issue can be fixed asap because it's font chaos over here! Thank you.
The fix for this issue is now available in the latest update of InDesign – version 16.1
Please update to this version to get the fix.

I had the same problems on multiple projects in the last days since I upgraded to 16.0 (I had to since I received a file from that version, and now same goes for the previous one). Fonts are activated on CC desktop and online page but still not showing on Indd (it doesn't "find them on pc").
Upgrading to 16.1 did absolutely nothing, I also logged in and out of cc multiple times and also rebooting etc and lost many hours because of this.
This is a major problem, and given the fact that I'm a paid-not-so-well-freelancer but paying every month my fair share of money to be able to work this is becoming truly frustrating. -

This is still an issue for me, I'm having to copying all text from a large document into a new one because of project turnaround time.
InDesign 2021 simply will not recognise an open type font that has been installed on my machine for years and one that I have been using for our branded documents across other versions of indesign. Restarting my computer last week and getting the document exported before Creative Cloud sync worked but not today. Please fix urgently!

I'm trying to change fonts in ID 2021 and the menu says the font is the newly selected one, but no amount of forcing changes to the font styles makes them change! HELP

Had the exact same problem using newly packaged documents, system font (Baskerville) and Font Book- I've upgraded to v 16.0.2 and it seems to have fixed it. I was able to open those packaged documents and export them without the dreaded pink text. Frustrating me for hours before hand.

WTF, why hasn't this been fixed yet?!? It's INDESIGN...FONTS...major. I have so many Corona Virus instruction inserts to pass on to government agencies, but can't because of fonts. Ridiculous. Work is done, but can't do a thing about it.

I have font issues when opening ID docs in 2021. All Adobe fonts installed fail and revert to ??? serif instead of Proxima Nova Regular. So very glad I did not uninstall ID2020.
I do not have time to monkey with this stuff which took me hours to get correct in the first place.

Same issue for me. I spent the weekend trying to fix a document that I've never had issues with before -- font is Chronicle Deck. I've also recently had issues with Avenir on other documents that have been fine for several years. More than frustrating. I'm using Font Agent.

same issue and is preventing me to work! I open a file I worked on the night before and fonts are now "currently unavailable on my computer" "Adobe Fonts couldn't find any matching fonts". Although, my fonts are clearly there via Adobe. I have attempted many fixes, closed ID numerous times and each time I restart, it can't 'find' different fonts or it found some of the previous 'missing' but still can't find the rest. No rhyme or reason and no consistency. I am using the latest version. The dreaded pink or attempt to substitute fonts is exhausting and frustrating!!

I have spent more years of my life than I care to remember watching Montserrat circling away in the Background tasks, never activating and blocking other processes.
We put a man on the moon in 1969 but if Adobe had been running the show, the activation of Montserrat would have prevented the rocket taking off.

Catalina 10.15.7 and InDesign 2021 - Can't choose a new font without InDesign freezing. I can apply style sheets that have already been created, but not scroll through a list of fonts. I have uninstalled and reinstalled InDesign several times as well as updating Creative Cloud. I thought it was a communication error with DropBox but I've been working with that offline. Seriously crippling issue. Only solution is restart my computer - it will not Force Quit - but the problem persists.

Found a fix as much as I don't like it. Missing a half dozen fonts in a large document that are activated through FontExplorer X Pro or through Font Book. (They work just fine in a new document; just not in my existing document.) Copied two of the fonts into the Fonts folder inside the InDesign Application folder to test the method. Now all the missing fonts load just fine. Just what I need -- more duplicated fonts on my iMac. - - Sue

Having issues with this too. Using the latest version, but Montserrat is apparently activating 6 times in Background Tasks. I've tried deactivating and deleting Montserrat through the downloaded file from Google and also through Adobe Fonts. Super frustrating.

InDesign 2021 16.0 tries to activate the font Montserrat black in the background continuously, every day...
This font not used on my open files. I have the OTF, TT and PS versions available on my machine although not activated. I use Suitcase Fusion Version 21.1.1. -

The font is present but InDesign says it's missing. I'm at loss for what to do
