Restore video from URL media option
For some unexplained reason the Video from URL option has been removed from InDesign 2020. This needs to be restored ASAP as there are people using this feature.
Moveover, it needs a minor improvement to allow HTTPS links (https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601180-adobe-indesign-bugs/suggestions/37474690-place-a-video-from-a-url-with-https).
It was a big mistake to not query the community before removing this and it should be a simple thing to restore.
“Place Video from URL” option has been restored in the latest InDesign update – version 15.1.
Please update InDesign to use the feature.

It makes no sense to remove a function that many designers use regularly. Please see how to include it again.

Adobe / Ravi,
Flash has been a dead horse for a long time due to it's hardware (etc) resource-intensive methods, and any moving-content-intensive people have switched to videos in h.264 (or the growing attention to h.265). InDesign needs to stay relevant in the motion arena, so PLEASE figure this out and make sure that we have full placement and linkability characteristics (Place, Link, etc) for all technologies and platforms (MP4, MOV, YouTube, Vimeo, etc, etc, etc).
I specifically need this for a BIG client initiative where I am reflowing InDesign PDF's (and other document-related experiences in relation to web-motion content NOW!
Thanks,

No reason for this to be removed.

Please put "place video from url" option back again. This is an important feature for digital publishers. Very short-sighted of Adobe to simply remove this feature without consulting the community.

Crazy to take away something like this. Adobe should be striving to add more ways of using/sharing content. Indesign needs this. Please put it back.

I’m so disappointed. I trust Adobe... most of the time. PLEASE consider making sure the URL media option is found in your wonderful (in every other way) software! THANK YOU.

Please bring back asap. Many of my digital designs include videos from my clients websites. Now I cannot add videos to their designs anymore.... will I be able to update videos on their standing artwork? Big headache!

How can you remove such a feature without proposed something else to replace it....The indesign team is 2 or 3 people left, i saw that there were a big bug in script that was resolved after many months..... I don't like pple saying adobe is no more what it used to be, but things like that me me think that way....

Removing it outright was a poor choice. In fact, it feels like a very lazy decision. Video URLs aren't exclusive to Flash. Please reconsider a smarter alternative.

Definitely bad decision to remove this. I have used this tool often to keep my file size smaller.
