“Place Video from URL” option has been restored in the latest InDesign update – version 15.1.
Please update InDesign to use the feature.

Flash has been a dead horse for a long time due to it's hardware (etc) resource-intensive methods, and any moving-content-intensive people have switched to videos in h.264 (or the growing attention to h.265). InDesign needs to stay relevant in the motion arena, so PLEASE figure this out and make sure that we have full placement and linkability characteristics (Place, Link, etc) for all technologies and platforms (MP4, MOV, YouTube, Vimeo, etc, etc, etc).
I specifically need this for a BIG client initiative where I am reflowing InDesign PDF's (and other document-related experiences) in relation to web-motion content NOW!
