InDesign 2020 won't overwrite PDF
Since updating to Indesign 2020 I can't overwrite pdf files from the export menu it says 'file is still open' when it's not. Yet another thing broken on the yearly beta test.
Fix for this issue is now available in the latest update of InDesign 2020 – that is, InDesign 15.1.2
In the Creative Cloud Desktop application, click on the Updates section on the left. You should be able to see the Update available for InDesign. Please update your InDesign application to this version to try out the fix.
Let us know in the comments section if you still face this problem.

This issue affects more than just overwriting an existing PDF that is saved on a Windows network. It is also affecting incremental saves for my InDesign documents as well.
Additionally, we have found that multiple users can open the same file concurrently. The feature to lock other users out and prevent them from opening a file that is already in use is malfunctioning.
My OS: Mojave 10.14.6
Creative Cloud: 2020 versions
Network: Window File Server -

ALSO HAVING THIS ISSUE!!!! It's quite irritating to have to delete the PDF every time I want to save it. Trying to save over old versions on my company's server. I have a similar issue when trying to overwrite .png and .psd files in Photoshop.

Our University Marketing team can also confirm this occurring on Mac machines to both a Linux SMB file server (Dell Isolon) and to a Windows SMB file share.

We are having the same problem in our office with PDFs and Indesign files when we try to save overwrite. We have been changing the name of the file and saving and then trying to delete the old file and it says its still in use! Any help would be very welcome! It is slowing our work pace down.

I cannot overwrite PDFs on the same day, because of the attached error. This occurs when the file can be closed and when the program is closed. You have to delete the PDF before you can reserve it.

Has this been fixed yet? I have had days of file lock permission problems with IND and illo. I need to get some work done. Please advise when it will be functioning software worth paying for again, rather than the latest beta that has once again bought the media departments production to a halt.

Cannot export over existing PDFs on our SMB server. Error says "PDF is already open".
Looking at InDesign in Activity Monitor (macOS Mojave), it shows the name of each PDF I've exported in the list of "Open Files and Ports". Quitting InDesign or manually deleting the PDF from the Finder first seems to be only solutions. Exporting to local disks seem to release/close exported PDFs as expected. -

I'm working in 15.0 and Mac Catalina, and as of now I'm still running into the same problem, however I do not receive a error message. Instead it opens the existing un-edited PDF file in Acrobat (I have view PDF after exporting checked).
