InDesign performance issue: Hand tool freezes
10.12.6 Sierra
Hand tool freezes and no other tool can be selected. It won't unfreeze unless I shut down entire computer. This is a recurring issue.
Hi,
In order to reproduce the issue we sent information to all the affected users who have either voted or commented on this thread.
Based on the replies we got we could infer that the issue is occurring when a third party software or application is also running in parallel. Some examples of the software used include Global Auto-correct, Google Chrome,
Moreover, when the issue occurs it seems to hamper all CC applications such as Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop.
A possible fix for the solution includes restarting the application or restarting the system.
In the absence of any consistent reproducible steps, we are currently closing this thread as “not reproducible”. In case you again encounter the issue, please create a new thread mentioning the steps with which we can reproduce the issue and additional softwares, if in case any, that you are using.
Thanks,
InDesign Team

I'm having the same problem. ID 14.0.2, Mohave 10.14.4. Seems like it's random. I never select the hand tool, but sometimes the cursor changes to the hand tool and then I can't change to any other tool. I have to quit InDesign and restart the computer to get the cursor to work normally.

I'm having the same exact issue using Indesign 14.0.2 and Mojave 10.14.4.
I didn't even use hand tool in the first place. Only direct select. Been happening for the last week and the only solution is to reboot my computer. Then I can get about 5 minutes in before it happens again. Incredibly frustrating and I'm not able to get any work done!

Quitting Chrome worked for me! Thank you, Phillip!

I am having the same issue. I'm on a mac, and this occurs when I try to zoom in, but start Siri instead. When I do back to Indesign it stays stuck on the hand tool and I can't get any other tool!

IT IS 2019 AND WE STILL HAVE THIS PROBLEM.
C'mon guys. Same thing happens to AI. Infuriating to shut down all my work just to restart.

SOLUTION: this is strange but for me what seems to work is just to fast "block/sleep screen" - so something like getting to "login screen". I'm glad because I have a hope that I don't have to restart whole OS.
@Ravi Kiran (Administrator, Adobe InDesign) - Yes it doesn't work in Photoshop / Indesign / illustrator at the same time.

Even I can see some solutions it seems that eveytime there is something else that works to solve a problem. I think we have wait enough for this problem to be permanently solved. Adobe please. Working without spacebar hand tool is so annoying.

SOLUTION: The issue is between web browsers (in my case chrome) and the adobe suite, shutting down the web browser seems to solve the issue, you can then open the browser again if you want and all should be back to normal. This only happens sometimes so restarting the browser app isn't too much of an effort.
Hope this helped!
(this works for me and might not work for everyone) -

Some here. Spacebar problem. Only a computer restart helps. Program restart doesn’t solve the problem. Happened several times.

Same space bar issue - and also the duplication issue - in ID. Very annoying indeed - a key shortcut that's used all the time. Really poor Adobe - come on.

I'm also having exact issue. I have to shut down Indesign for it to get unstuck out of hand tool. Only happening in indesign. Switching out doesn't work with hot keys, esc, or mouse. Tried switching to another program and back, no luck. Have to restart Indesign to fix the issue.
Please escalate this issue, It is very time consuming to have to disrupt workflow to shut down every 2-5 minutes. Luckily the save hot keys work.
Up to date on latest version of Indesign.

Spacebar hand tool and command+shift for zoom still do not work for me either. I shut down all applications, restart and it still doesn't work on my Adobe applications. I use these shortcuts constantly and this is really dragging me down. I'm running Mac OS 10.12.6 and CC 2019. Any suggestions? Very frustrating!

Hi Abhinav, I realised the issue was with using the touchfreeze app which adds a delay freeze to touch typing as I was constantly moving the cursor around the screen in the surface book. As soon as I quit that the hand tool works fine.

Hand tool gets stuck, unable to change to other tools.
No zooming
When it happens, it happens to all the document that are currently open
This happened to me for the first time today, and I had to close ID a few times.
