Can't drag objects
I am unable to drag objects/textbox/etc in InDesign. I can resize using corner handles but I'm unable to click and drag object to desired location I've uninstalled, reinstalled, shutdown, restarted, cleared all settings, etc and nothing seems to work. I have never encountered this issue in all my years of using InDesign. Please help!
Hello All,
We thank you for your patience all this while.
Addressing this problem has been tricky for us given the random nature of the issue.
Determined to resolve the issue, we had launched our investigation into the matter to identify the root cause and fix it.
Many of you must have received email from us seeking more details about the issue.
We have concluded our investigation and came up with the below mentioned finding:
It was found that, most of the times, users were trying to drag an empty polygon which was leading the confusion because the legacy behaviour of InDesign allows dragging of polygon only from its edges or the centre most point.
If the user tries to drag it from any other position, the object cannot be moved.
We have tried to improve the user experience in this regard. You can try the same in InDesign’s latest version id 14.0.3.
Please download and install id 14.0.3 and let us know your feedback on the new experience.
Note:
If you are unable to drag other types of objects (other than empty polygons), please check the memory usage of your system. It has been observed that when the memory usage reaches the critical level, dragging of the objects become difficult.
As a workaround, you may either try to close some applications or restart the system.
Regards,
InDesign team

WTF is wrong with Indesign. Having the same issue. Driving me up a wall. NOTHING works. Going back to 6 and am cancelling this subscription if not resolved soon.
Also: pages can't be dragged into the document. I'm manually inserting. What is this, effing PAGEMAKER?

Having this same problem after restarting, shift-control-alt, pressing alt, etc. Nothing is working and I also have a huge project due this week. ugh.

Restarted (after re-installing and rebooting) and then started on Win10 with "shift-ctrl-alt" and the text box is movable (for now).

I have the same issues today. Ditched the preferences and no joy. Also not running any Chrome extensions which some people suggested might be the problem. I urgently need to resolve this as I'm on a big job. Any clues?

I just had this issue today. Deleted the preferences and nothing worked. So frustrating, I have a deadline and cannot get my work done.

I had the same issue today. Opened up the Adobe Creative Cloud app and signed in, then everything was movable again.

I have the same problem and resetting the preferences didn't help!!!

I deleted preferences, updated to latest version. This seems to have worked but only after a complete Mac shut down.

Looks like something cropped up on multiple computers on the same day. I'm having the same issue
I didn't use Indesign yesterday, so this issue likely happened along with the last two commenters (both are on January 17th, 2018).
I don't really care for the glitches that require resetting inDesign preferences. Manually adjusted keyboard shortcuts are lost too!

I am having the same issue. Tried updating to latest IND version, deleted preferences at start up. But still I am unable to drag with mouse - this makes it impossible to use.
I have the problem constantly on all files. Nothing is helping.
Had read elsewhere that Chrome plugins may cause conflict but quitting Chrome made no difference to me.

I have this problem too and I'm also encountering for the first time after years of using InDesign. (I'm currently using 12.1.0.56 on Mac OS X 10.12.6.) I reset the preferences and rebooted which seemed to fix it but overnight the problem has returned. This is something of a fundamental issue for a layout application. If I can't use InDesign, then I cannot work, so it is critical that this is fixed.
