  2. "Insufficient data for an image" error is shown on opening PDF in Acrobat

We are experiencing issues with exporting to PDF. Hi res PDF Compatibility Acrobat 7 (PDF 1.6).
The PDF is created normally, but when opening the PDF, it sometimes happens that the image is not displayed on one or more pages. The error message for this specific page is: ERROR: Insufficient data for an image.
We tried to solve this problem within our team. Eventually, we discovered that the issue did not occur for one of our colleagues. Further investigation revealed that this colleague was still using an older version of InDesign (18.3). The colleagues experiencing problems had automatic updates enabled…

  3. "Selection" and "Direct Selection" tool icons mixed up in toolbar

The button images for "selection" and "direct selection" tools are mixed-up. The buttons are still in their correct place, but the "selection tool" button now displays the white arrow in the toolbar, the "direct selection" button the black arrow.

The mouse arrows themselves remain correct, as do their functions.

  4. Publish Online feature has issues when viewed in iOS 13

We are using the "Publish Online" feature inside Adobe Indesign to make some of our content available on our website. We've recently received reports from users with Apple iOS 13 mobile devices that the content is not displaying properly on those types of mobile phones. When the content first opens, if you double tap the page zooms in ok and double tapping again zooms out ok. However, if you try to pinch/zoom, the page blows up very large such that you can only see a couple words and you cannot pinch to get back out. Sometimes double-tapping again takes it…

  5. Cmd-O or Cmd-N doesn't work after InDesign starts up.

This has been an annoying bug for a while. If you open indesign, then use the command-O or command-N key to open/create a file, nothing happens. You just get an alert sound.

  6. InDesign performance issue: Hangs when exporting to PDF

    1. Latest Indesign CC, Windows 10
    2. ID would sometimes not finish the export to PDF task and hangs for minutes. It must then be killed in the task manager. During this it constantly consumes a big lot of RAM and CPU power. See attachment.

  7. Load DTD throws error in InDesign 2022 (17.0)

When using the structure menu to load a DTD , the latest version of InDesign sometimes throws an error with a single period as the message. I'm using the same DTD I've used successfully in previous versions of InDesign.

    Error text:
    .
    Line 941, Column: 18

In the context of this DTD, line 941 column 18 points to the % sign used to refer to an earlier parameter entity. This has never been a problem for InDesign before:

    <!ELEMENT sam (%paragraph_styles; | table | footnote | endnote)+ >

Even using the same DTD in the same file, this issue doesn't…

  8. IDML: missing Font Style property in Character Style after export

    Version: InDesign CC 2020 15.0.1

    How to reproduce the bug:
    1. Create a Character Style with "Bold" Font Style and apply it to a word/character range
    2. Save in INDD file format
    3. Export the IDML
    4. Open the IDML and you will notice that the bold property for the Character Style was lost

Expected result: the Character Style should be the same as in the original INDD file

Actual result: the "bold" property was lost during the export process. The INDD file is fine.

I verified that InDesign CC 2019 14.0.3 is not affected by this bug.

  9. import pdf comments

    1. ID 14 Mac
    2. Copy text out of a comment to paste into layout
    3. Would expect that the cursor could be used to select all or part of an imported PDF comment
    4. In fact it is EXTREMELY difficult to get the palette to recognize that text is selected in the palette interface. The "Copy" popup does not appear a large proportion of the time, or you can't select the range of characters you need. Even though Acrobat is terrible at the same process, it is significantly faster to copy the needed range of characters from the comment in Acrobat and switch…

  10. Graphics glitches galore on M1 MacBook Air + external 4K monitor

InDesign 17 on an M1 MacBook Air with Big Sur is barely usable with an external 4K monitor. There are graphic artifacts everywhere, especially near the margins/edge of boxes which makes it hard to know if anything is aligned properly. Everything looks okay on the laptop's built-in display but is distorted on the external.

Also, when scrolling, the screen updates sporadically and usually does the Windows 95-looking stuck window effect.

If I turn off the GPU it looks better when working statically but when scrolling it is even worse.

  11. Spellcheck is grabbing the comma after words, causing an error

Since upgrading to Indesign 2021 v16.0, when I run a spell check, if it catches a word it thinks is misspelled but that word has a comma after it, spellcheck also grabs the comma. If I attempt to Add that word to my user dictionary, I get an error "Words ending in punctuation other than ending periods may not be added into the dictionary". This never happened in previous versions of Indesign. See attached screengrab.

  12. Vertical Text Alignment not working correctly in InDesign 2020

I recently upgraded to InDesign CC 2020 and find all the text in circles not aligned vertically center. Document was last opened in CC 2019 and these were fine. I haven’t modified these since. Rectangles are fine. See attached example - clearly not right and inconsistently so. I have tried every setting and I can’t get them to line up. Thanks!

  14. World-Ready Composer Is messing up the kerning in Latin fonts

I have reported a variation of this—back with CS6—but it seems not to have been fixed. I assume it's a bug, but if someone can enlighten me about what I might be doing wrong and how I can fix this, I'd appreciate it.

I often work on books that include Arabic and Hebrew words and phrases in the middle of English text. They only way to get the Arabic ligatures to form is to use one of the World Ready composers. When I do that, though, the kerning around some English characters often—but not always—is affected. I have tried turning…

  15. Icon Panels do not expand correctly when Application Frame is OFF.

Recurring issue from one InDesign upgrade to the next! Found 2- and 6-year old reports of the same bug. In-between updates fix it but reoccurs with every new upgrade...

    ISSUE
When Application Frame is disabled, panels that are on the right side of the screen don't expand towards the left as they normally would but to the right.
The bigger the UI scaling size, the more to the right of the screen the panel expansion moves, soon disappearing altogether. Only smallest sizing allows to display properly.
    Attaching screenshot for reference.
No problem when Application Frame is enabled.

  16. Cells formatted as Number/Currency etc. in Excel without decimal places or as Date not imported correctly into InDesign.

    InDesign CC : 2020 / 15.0.0.155
    MacOS : 10.13.6
MS Excel : 16.30 for Mac

We were able since ever (last version ID CC 2019) to import Excel data-cells by InDesign with the placing functionality. With the actual version of InDesign CC 2020 numbers without any decimal places (e.g. 153) are not imported from Excel files and are displayed in InDesign with a "0" - (e.g. 153 imports to InDesign as 0). If the numbers in the Excel files have at least 1 decimal place numbers are imported correctly (e.g. 153.6 imports to InDesign as 153.6). Please fix this InDesign…

  17. GPU Performance makes colours dull/desaturated

With GPU Performance enabled, all colours appear desaturated. In fact, it looks like colour management is simply turned off. Please note, this is not a Transparency Blend Space issue. It affects Spot, RGB and CMYK colours.

With GPU Performance disabled, colours appear vibrant and correct. It would be great to have this issue resolved, as I certainly want to take advantage of the GPU when using InDesign.

  18. Khmer Script Punctuation Line Breaking Is Broken

Regression Bug (used to work in InDesign CS 5.5)

Adobe InDesign CC 15.03 currently will break lines between Khmer script and its punctuation even though no space is present (Khmer Unicode Punctuation: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khmer_script#Spacing_and_punctuation ) as pictured in the attachment.

Desired Result: Khmer punctuation should stay with the Khmer script preceding it (just like an English period, comma, question mark, etc. does). The whole word should line break with the punctuation (currently Khmer uses zero-width spaces [U+200B] to indicate a word-boundary).

  19. ALT Text not appearing in group

    InDesign 2020

Issue: I have a screenshot with alt text included (typed in the Object Export Options dialogue). I then have a simple red box (rectangle tool, no fill, 2pt stroke) highlighting a section of that screenshot. When I group those objects, and export a tagged PDF, I get an error in Acrobat stating that no alt text exists.

Expected result: Alt text should appear.

Actual result: No alt text is present, or the assigned alt text is not recognized and is flagged by Acrobat's accessibility checker.

This issue did not exist with ID 2019.
