1. [ID-4256547] InDesign 2025 Won't Lock "Constrain Proportions"

   When creating a frame, rectangle, any object, or selecting any other object, InDesign 2025 will not keep Constrain Proportions locked when the lock icon is clicked on the control bar.

   The user now has to click it while they select each object and want to scale an object by scaling either the width or height.

   I didn't notice this at first, but found out from a Reddit post.

2. [ID-4256546]Bug when setting an even number as the start page number in a new document.

   Bug when setting an even number for the start page number when creating a new document

   1. Version of Adobe InDesign
      CC2025 (ver. 20.0) JP

   2. Steps to reproduce the issues
      Set any even number for the start page number on the Create New Document screen.

   3. Expected result
      An even page number will be displayed in Current Page Number as set.

   4. Actual resul
      The value set in the New Document screen will not be reflected, and “Current Page Number” will display “1”.

   As shown in the attached figure, when “Current Page Number” is inserted into a new document with the starting page number set to an even number, the document starts with “1”.
   (As long as the number set in the new document creation screen is an even number, any value will not be reflected and will become “1”).

   This phenomenon can be recovered by temporarily setting a different value in “Number & Section Option”.
   However, for users who are not aware of this behavior, it is sure to cause great confusion.
   It can also cause significant time loss in finding a solution.
   We have not been able to verify whether this bug is specific to the Japanese version, but we recognize that it is a very serious bug.
   We sincerely hope that the development team will fix it as soon as possible.

   実際の結果
   新規ドキュメント画面で設定した値は反映されず、「現在のページ番号」に「1」が表示される。

   添付画像のように、開始ページ番号を偶数番号に設定した新規ドキュメントに、「現在のページ番号」を挿入すると「1」から開始されます。
   （新規ドキュメント作成画面で設定した番号が偶数である限り、いかなる値であっても反映されず「1」となる）

   この現象は「ページ番号とセクションの設定」で、一時的に別の値を設定すれば回復します。
   しかしこの挙動を認識していないユーザーにとって、大きな混乱を招く原因となることは間違いありません。
   また、解決策を見つけるために大きな時間のロスを生む可能性があります。
   この不具合は日本語版固有の問題なのかは検証できていませんが、非常に深刻なバグであると認識しています。
   開発チームには早急に改善していただくよう切に希望します。

   Problem: 

   InDesign Performance issues: Delay or beach balls observed on basic operations on Macintosh

   Steps to Reproduce:

   • We have reproduced one scenario in which the existence of the Documents Font Folder and Contextual Task bar results in some slowness.
   • Other workflows causing slowness are being investigated - No reliable reproducible steps

   Impacted workflows:

   • Switching to InDesign
   • Open/Closing of Document
   • Edit/Scroll/Copy-paste/Highlight operation on Text
   • Text disappears, illustrations disappear
   • Imported or added text turns black until a style is applied.
   • Font menu highlight not following my mouse movement
   • Text will not change fonts until I click the mouse inside or outside the text box.
   • Resize a document window, the corner flies below the screen border
   • Click or Drag of the mouse
   • Switching between tools
   • "Waiting for UXP plugins to finish up remaining tasks."

   Workaround:

   • Disable Contextual Task Bar or remove Documents Font Folder
   • Close the MAGNET application
   • Revert to InDesign 19.5, No performance lag is observed.
   • Restarting the machine and trashing the preferences seems to resolve the issue temporarily
   • Disabling any font manager software seems to resolve the issue. One customer confirmed that disabling "Rightfont" resolved the issue.
   • Uninstall-Reinstall seems to resolve the issue temporarily
   • Turn off Preflight seems to resolve the issue temporarily

   Note:

   1. The issue seems to be specific to the MAC platform only. Impacted macOS (Sequoia, Sonoma, Ventura(maybe), Monterey)
   2. The issue seems to be specific to the MAC devices
      • Apple MacBook Pro M1/M2/M3
      • Apple MacBook Air M1/M2/M3
      • Apple Max Studio M1/M2/M3
      • Apple Mac mini M1/i7 Intel
   3. The issue exists for both old and new documents

   Additional information needed:

   1. Are you opening the indd documents from the folder containing the Documents Font Folder?
   2. Is the "Contextual Task bar" shown? If yes, Disable it from "Window->Contextual Task bar"

   4. Please follow the below steps for InDesign 20.0.1.32 and InDesign PR 20.1.066 on Macintosh
      • Open Terminal in full-screen mode
      • Drag the InDesign application on the terminal (e.g. "/Applications/Adobe\ InDesign\ 2025/Adobe\ InDesign\ 2025.app/Contents/MacOS/Adobe\ InDesign\ 2025")

   We have made some Performance Improvements in the latest InDesign Release 2025 (Version 20.1), available via Creative Cloud Desktop application. This issue has also been fixed as part of performance improvements.

4. [ID-4243320] Incorrect cursor movement in RTL text when Harfbuzz text shaping is used.

   InDesign version: v20 (both Mac & PC)

   In right-to-left languages ​​(Hebrew & Arabic) the cursor movement went crazy:
   - Left key - goes up
   - Right key - jumps to the end of the line...
   We can't work that way

   Note: both (23\25 indd) set to 'Visual' in preferences > right-to-left > cursor movement (of course, changing the setting to 'logical' doesn’t solve it)

5. [ID-4256474]InDesign 2025 removes all PDF export setting files with double-byte and accented characters from InDesign 2024

   During the installation of InDesign 2025, all .joboptions files with PDF export settings were removed, even in the older version 2024! This is absurd!

6. History Window

   Using the hotkeys Command > Z to undo constantly brings up a tour of the History window. Don't want to use it or I would already and am really over it telling me to. Please how do I stop the prompt?

7. [ID-4255622] Panels move from Extended Display to Main Display on waking Mac from sleep.

   Setup:
   1) Mac as Main Display, External Monitor as Extended Display
   2) App Window on Main Display, All panels on Extended Display
   OR
   1) Mac in Clamshell mode, 2 External Monitors (one is Main Display, other is Extended Display)
   2) App Window on Main Display, All panels on Extended Display

   3) Mac goes to Sleep.
   4) Wake up Mac from Sleep.

   Result : Some panels move to the Main Display, some panels remain partially on both Displays.

8. [ID-4257733]The amount of “Indent to Here” in a paragraph with a “Text Wrap” object at the beginning of the line is wider than usual.

   2. Steps to reproduce the issues Place an object with "Text Wrap" at the beginning of the line and insert "Indent to Here" in the paragraph.
   3. Expected result Wrap at "Indent to Here"
   4. Actual result A gap is created where the "Text Wrap" is added to the wrap of "Indent to Here".

   I suspect that the issue mentioned in the post below may be related to it being fixed in 2023 (18.0).

9. Icon Panels do not expand correctly when Application Frame is OFF.

   Recurring issue from one InDesign upgrade to the next! Found 2- and 6-year old reports of the same bug. In-between updates fix it but reoccurs with every new upgrade...

   ISSUE
   When Application Frame is disabled, panels that are on the right side of the screen don't expand towards the left as they normally would but to the right.
   The bigger the UI scaling size, the more to the right of the screen the panel expansion moves, soon disappearing altogether. Only smallest sizing allows to display properly.

10. [ID-4255452] Text variables with modification date not working when saved to Cloud.

    I created a text variable to update the date when the document is modified. When I opened my document in the beta version of InDesign, the text frame for my text variable was empty. I tried to re-enter the variable, and I tried making a new variable. When I selected a variable that included the current date, it would not appear. I created a Modification Date text variable and a custom text variable based on the Modification date. They appeared correctly. I saved the InDesign doc to the cloud. Once I applied a paragraph style, the text disappeared in both boxes.

11. The link is set to "anyone with link can comment" but it's still requiring a password

    I have created a share for review link for others to comment on, however it's requiring them to log into an account even though it's set to "Anyone with the link can comment". This was not the case before, others could comment as a guest. Using InDesign 2024 v19.0.1

    The issue has been fixed. 

    Now the Share for Review links set to "Anyone with the link can comment" open in the browser without asking for an Adobe ID login & password.

12. PAC 2021 Error for InDesign generated PDF : Object reference not set to an instance of an object

    I am still getting Object reference not set to an instance of an object when testing pdf files in PAC 21. This error apparently relates to 'PDF Export using ZIP compression for images shows an “Insufficient data for an image” error on opening in Acrobat.

    This was supposed to be fixed in ID 18.5 but its now happening with every PDF I check for accessibility, even a single page with simple text.

    Working for local government and its imperative our PDF files exported from ID are fully accessible and tested. Seek an urgent fix.

13. Gray boxes behind photos in Share for Review

    I have been using the new Share for Review for the last little while and am enjoying receiving feedback directly on my documents for import into InDesign. However, I recently went to a published file and noticed that all of the images in my design now have a light gray square behind them. Additionally, the colours and blending on some of the images are all off or look odd. The gray boxes appear on all of my previously uploaded documents, and I've checked from multiple computers and they all appear to show these boxes.

14. "Insufficient data for an image" error is shown on opening PDF in Acrobat

    We are experiencing issues with exporting to PDF. Hi res PDF Compatibility Acrobat 7 (PDF 1.6).
    The PDF is created normally, but when opening the PDF, it sometimes happens that the image is not displayed on one or more pages. The error message for this specific page is: ERROR: Insufficient data for an image.
    We tried to solve this problem within our team. Eventually, we discovered that the issue did not occur for one of our colleagues. Further investigation revealed that this colleague was still using an older version of InDesign (18.3). The colleagues experiencing problems had automatic updates enabled and were working on the new version 18.4. I then uninstalled my 18.4 version and reverted back to 18.3, and the PDF exports started working as before without the error message.

    I hope you can look into this and perhaps address it in the new InDesign version.

15. Reading order issue when a footnote is split over to next page or column

    When a footnote split over to next page or column, the accessible PDF generated from InDesign CC 2023 has notes reading order messed up. The first note reference on the page where the portion of a note comes in from the previous page/column reads the continued note text and likewise the second note reference reads the first note and so on. Eventually the last note is read at the end regardless it's note reference. It's a serious issue because not only the reading order needs to be fixed for the last note on the page that has splitting to the next column or page but also all the notes appearing on that page where the split portion has come in will also need to be fixed manually.

    To my mind It's a critical bug that is making InDesign unusable to create accessible content and needs to be addressed on highest priority.

    The fix of the issue is now available in the latest InDesign 2026(v21.0.0.192). We recommend you upgrade to the latest version for the fix.

    If you are unable to see the update, go to the Creative Cloud application, click on the context menu on the top right, and click on Check for App Updates.

16. InDesign 18.2 crashes/fails during PDF export for documents containing placed indd containing Adobe Fonts

    Problem/Actual Result
    I have Indesign files that have .indd files linked as images. Each time I export an Indesign file that has an .indd links, I receive the attached messages saying that the file cannot be exported.

    Steps to reproduce the issue:
    - I have exported each page to find out which assets are causing Indesign not to export, it is always an .indd asset.
    - I have tried removing any transparency from each of the .indd linkages
    - I have removed any transparency or object style on any bounding box an .indd file sits in.
    - I have tried removing any unused or empty layers in all of the .indd linkages
    - I have tried exporting Indesign files as Press Quality, High Quality Print and Small File size but no PDF can be produced.
    - I have tried saving the Indesign file and .indd linkages as IDML or INDT files, then resaving them as Indesign files, but no PDF is produced.
    
    - I have trashed all my preferences multiple times.
    - I have restarted my computer multiple times.
    - I have tested the above with multiple Indesign files and still receive the attached error messages

    Expected result:
    To successfully produce a PDF by using the File > Export function. The only way I can make a PDF currently is going to the Print dialog window and creating a PDF file but that is not desirable and very slow.

    Version of Indesign: 18.2 on a PC

17. Unable to see Preset Templates in New Document

    When I try to open a New Document and find a template, all I can see are black boxes with a description. If I click on Preview I do not get one. Please see screenshot. How can I fix this?

18. Hanging drop cap has wrong indents in 2023 v18

    In v18 (2023), when a paragraph has both a drop cap and a hanging indent (negative first line indent), the indent gets messed up on subsequent lines.

    This came from a bug report by Lut Van Nooten on the InDesign Secrets LinkedIn group:

    The solution is to disable the new Composition Preference: "Honor Text Indents in addition to Text Wrap"

    However, in this case, this is clearly a bug because there is no text wrap!

19. [ID-4251249] Exiting Presentation Mode changes Application's Window size at higher UI Scaling when connected to external monitor.

    InDesign's Window size set by user prior to entering Presentation mode is not retained upon exiting from Presentation mode when connected to external monitor and with the UI Scaling set to other than Small setting.
    InDesign's window becomes fullscreen.
    It would be great to get back to same size and position.

20. InDesign opens documents in read only after upgrading to InDesign 2023(18.0)

    Indesign CC 2023 version 18.0 Files open as “Read Only”
    As soon as updated, some files have started to open “Read Only” (RO)
    My OS: Windows 10 Pro 10.0.19044 or 21H2
    PC Desktop
    I am working remotely through a VPN to a server IP address
    I have Indesign 2023 18.0 , and Indesign CS6 installed. I have not opened the CS6 in years. Also noted: My machine does not automatically uninstall the former version when it updates. I manually uninstalled Indesign 2022 after I started using the 2023. At first I thought the RO problem was a conflict, so that was the first thing I did.
    Older version files open up as “converted” ok
    I am able to do all writing on my remote server, I can “save as”, and export files, create folders, delete files, ect.
    If I copy a file that opens RO to my local desktop, I can then open it fine (read/write - RW). If I make changes to that file, save, and then copy it back to remote server, it will open as RO again.
    This does not seem to be happening to every file. I started working on 2 files yesterday, opened and made changes, saved, and closed both multiple times in the morning, then a couple hours later, they opened RO. Then another hour later, one of them opened ok -RW.
    I have a coworker that has the same PC OS Windows system version, and same Indesign version. We both access to the files through same VPN, he is just not in same location as me (about 20 miles away). However, his system automatically uninstalled older versions when it updates. He can open the same files that open RO for me, and they open fine, RW, for him.
    If I open a brand new blank file and I copy and paste all contents from a file that opened RO, then close the RO file and save my Untitled document over it, it will them open up ok when I go back immediately and open it. However, if I go back to open that file, say an hour later, It may or may not open up “Read Only” again.
    I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Indesign 2023, and checking to make sure updated. I have unplugged (reset) my modem.
    I cannot change my preferences for updates to uninstall older versions at this time as I have a graphics card issue with the latest version of Photoshop. I cannot go back to using Indesign 2022, as my cowerker has already been using 2023 for awhile and many files are converted.
    It seems to be intermittent, and almost like there is a problem with files not closing properly? Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated!
