Text Variables should support super/sub script
Text variables should support incidental superscript and subscript. Currently, even with using GREP in the paragraph style which defines the super- or sub-script and placing on a master page, the text variable does not support these formats in actual placement on document pages. Very elementary feature that should be supported.

Update / Upgrade the Numbering & Sections Dialogue Panel
The Numbering & Sections Dialogue Panel is long overdue for an upgrade. Page numbering defaults to however the first section is numbered --working with publications, the first section is often Roman numerals while the bulk of the book is Arabic numbering, which means changing the numbering style every time a new section is created.
And the Section Marker field is much too small.
It really would be good if the Section Markers and Text Variables were all combined into a single, flexible method for labeling publication sections.2 votes -
Grid view when zoomed out
Please allow pages to move into a grid view when zooming out. This would allow for page layout artists to look at the "big picture" view all at once without the endless scrolling. Attaching two pictures, one is what indesign looks like now, the second is what it looks like in Microsoft Word which is a MUCH more helpful view. If this is already available, please let me know, I'd love to use this feature!

Autosave on Indesign !!!
Currently in much distress due to the lack of an autosave feature on indesign. We artists and students should not be trusted to manually save our work. We just leave it up at all times. I know this exists on Adobe applications, this needs to be a top priority. Too many lost files due to this. Praying for a miracle and a non-existent recovered file. CATER TO YOUR AUDIENCE!

Align to page when only one item selected!
I usually have 'Align to Selection' as my default. Wouldn't it be great if when only one item is selected that the align buttons use 'Align to Page'

Enable "relink to CC Library"
Enable "relink all images to a different CC Library" (relink to CC Library) , like you do on your hard drive (relink to folder)
I´m creating catalogues where I reuse a lot of images again and again,.
I copy images from one Library to a new Library.
Then I want to relink this new Library to a copy of my Indesign document.Earlier it was easy to link all images to a different folder, but in CC Librarys it do not work the same way, very frustrating.
And with the shutting down of synced files folders it’s very important to…

Lyft background check?
It is an honor to be able to join the Lyft driver community, which sounds like one exciting environment. I am currently in the course of getting through the application steps. As I go through all the steps, I have thought about the thoroughness of Lyft with respect to what it looks for in a background check. While doing some research, I stumbled across this informative article (https://consumerattorneys.com/article/what-does-lyft-look-for-in-a-background-check), shedding light on the subject. I am very sure that your collective wisdom can provide more details.
Just for those of you who have firsthand experience in driving for Lyft…

PDF to InDesign - Preserve Editing Capabilities
In Illustrator, you have an option for saving to PDF to "Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities" so that you can open the file in Illustrator again and have the whole file including the layers, effects, guides, etc. Can we have this for InDesign as well?
I work with some people that I know use InDesign and export the PDF from there, but don't share the InDesign file so when changes need to be made, it gets a bit more complicated than necessary.2 votes -
More options when resizing a layout
If I need to resize a page/layout using Document Setup, ideally for me, all of the existing content would remain at the top of the page, so a new, taller page size would add more space at the bottom, or if I wish to shorten a page, empty white space would be removed from the bottom. InDesign 19.2 centers all content vertically on the new page size, which I can't imagine anyone would ever want, forcing the unnecessary step of moving everything back to the top of the new page. You could add a Photoshop-style grid icon to show where…

Keep text box attributes when creating outlines.
When creating outlines for text, InDesign should separate out the text box and turn that into an object with the same parameters that were initially set. So, if I have white text in a black box with a yellow stroke, the black box with yellow stroke should remain in the layout when selecting "Create Outlines". Right now the box disappears.

I used to be able to create a PDF in InDesign when printing a booklet. I can no longer do this. Why? It's so frustrating!

Please add Document First Page Number and Document Page Range to Text Variables
I'm doing a layout for a scientific journal, and each article is in a separate file. The articles are then combined into a book. An important piece of information is the page range, which is part of the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) used by scientists to search. Additional text variables like Document Start Page and Document Page Range are much needed. The last variable requires separator formatting between numbers (e.g. 35-70 or 35…70)

Share for Review should be Save To Adobe PDF Documents as PDF
So I really like the idea of Share for Review but it can be very buggy sometimes and I feel like a lot of the missing or requested features can be found in Adobe Acrobat Online Documents. So instead of having the two seperate systems why not have Share for Review simple be export a PDF directly to the Document Cloud and eliminate the extra step of having to save as a PDF and then upload and or share to get it online for review as a PDF.
The PDF would use whatever quality settings the user chooses and can…

Browser/Web version
I'd like an online version of inDesign that I can use on any operating system, like my Chromebook.

Create (H) Header and (P) Paragraph style on same line to produce a TOC and 508 Accessible document (Run-in Running variable))
Create (H) Header and (P) Paragraph style on same line that will pickup the styles when I produce the TOC and make the document accessible.
I understand this can be done in FrameMaker.
If a programmer can make it happen in FrameMaker, they should be able to make it work in InDesign.
Thank You, Linda

Possibility to control Superscript/Subscript, i.e., 40% if >XX font size, 65% if<XX font size
In "Advanced Type" (in settings) I can control Superscript, subscript and Small Caps. Many fonts has got a gigantic and ugly ® (registered trademark) and needs to be shrunk. Sadly, that shrinks the ® in normal body copy too much. It would be great if I could have options in Advanced Type to control it more.
E.g., 40% size and 65% baseline if bigger than 36 pt font size, and some other setting for anything smaller than that size.2 votes -
Larger thumbnails in the Page Pallet
I would like to see the thumbnails in the InDesign Page Pallet larger so that components of the page are easily recognizable. Currently the Jumbo thumbnail size is not sufficient. Perhaps a slider feature similar to 'View Options' in Apple Finder?

Right Click on object -> Move/Copy it to any Layer
Sometimes when you want to move or copy an object from one layer to another, it can become a bit cumbersome if you're working with a lot of layers and those layers themselves have a lot of files.
So my suggestion is to add a menu shortcut when you right click on any object to move that object to any available layer.
See crude example below.
Thank you.

ability to import .avif file.
InDesign should be able to import .avif files. It doesn't need more explanation than that, except to say, If importing graphics and images is one of the core purposes of the program, it's surprising to find a format that can't be imported. Please keep InDesign updated and capable of working with all formats.
