Linked Docs: Seeing where the children of a linked item is from the parent document
File A is linked to B, C, D, and E (the children)
I want to see that information while looking at file A (the parent).Currently, we can only see the link path when the child is selected.
Example: I have used the content placer to link a block of text into 4 documents. I want to see which 4 documents that block of text is linked to while in the parent document. That way I can quickly navigate to those 4 documents rather than searching through hundreds to sync up any updates later.

Place > (Show Import Options)
I use this feature daily and would so prefer to use my keyboard arrow keys to cycle through the image thumbnails than the tiny dialogue box arrows.

Adobe's Collaborate should alert user when someone else is viewing/ editing the file
InDesign Files shared with team members through Adobe's Collaborate features do not alert users when someone else is viewing/ editing a file. Instead, conflicted copies are created.
A team member opening a file someone else is viewing / editing should see an alert to avoid the creation of conflicting copies / improve collaboration.
Without this, our team is unlikely to use Adobe's Collaborate feature.

Hyphenation of compound words must take precedence over hyphenation
Currently, in Indesign in german language "st" is always hyphenated. In my work, however, there are many compound words in which the "st" is at the beginning or end of the word and therefore the hyphenation of a compounded word must occur before or after the "st" instead of between "s" and "t".
Example:
"Führerstand", compunded of the words "Führer" and "Stand"Expected hyphenation:
Führer-standWrong InDesign hyphenation:
Führers-tand4 votes -
Generated captions match FULL IPTC from Photoshop
Hi.
I’m trying to get those lines from Stock images I buy :
<photoshop:Credit>byheaven - stock.adobe.com/photoshop:Credit <photoshop:Source>93738394/photoshop:SourceI found no way to do that in inDesign with the current caption tool.
But what became funny was comparing Photoshop’s RAW DATA info :
<pur:creditLine>
<rdf:Bag>
<rdf:li>byheaven - stock.adobe.com/rdf:li
/rdf:Bag
/pur:creditLinewith what inDesign gets me as XMP info :
/dc:title

JPEG export should be numbered usefully
InDesign exports JPEGs as: blah.jpg, blah2.jpg, blah3.jpg, etc.
Even InDesign itself can't properly parse this numbering scheme when it imports JPEGs. They should be numbered: blah01.jpeg, blah02.jpg, blah03.jpg, etc.
Either that, or InDesign should be smart enough to recognize and properly import its own JPEGs.

Hide/Filter pages in pages panel AND navigation
I got myself in a workflow where I would have a document having sections organised like that : title page / content page / title page / content page…
I have to go back and forth between the content pages, and sometimes between the title pages.
That helps to compare what has changed and what’s consistent between the pages.
So I try to not distract my eye by either going to the pages panel or by ctrl-page up with the « title pages » interruption (think about the (now long gone) photoshop cmd-Z to undo/redo and spot differences. If Title…

Folder structure in saved queries
I need to organize saved Search/Replace queries into folders. Just like styles.
(Now I have a few dozens of queries in a very long list. Plus some document/workflow has special queries, so I don't want mix them. A folder structure would be more straightforward)

Include search for cross references pointing to other documents in Preflight
Until now, cross refs to other documents can kill Indesign in case that other document has been renamed, moved or deleted. ID would then, like, forever try to find that document, slowing itself down to the unability to work with it.
That's why such cross refs should not exist, but they occur when copying text from one document to another. In order to find these cross refs, the only way is to hover with the mouse over the cross refs listing in the cross ref panel. That's annoying. Please include searching for such cross refs to Preflight.4 votes -
Typographer's Quotes Override
For some users, straight quotes and apostrophes are the bane of our existence. The Use Typographer's Quotes checkbox is in Preferences>Type is (strangely) document-dependent and may switch off if you have a document open that originated on another machine.
It's rather annoying to have to keep popping back into Preferences. Is there a possibility we could have an option to have it ALWAYS enabled, so that it overrides individual document settings?4 votes -
Links in Properties Panel
The new Properties Panel is great, but the very first thing I noticed when selecting a linked file, It only states that it's a "Linked File"... But you cannot click or edit your linked file, like in Illustrator?? Isn't this the whole purpose behind the PropPanel - to make quick edits all in one panel? Thanks!

Please add the possibility of using conditional text to the Table of Contents.
Sometimes we need to shorten the title, or generate a list of abbreviations, a table of contents for each section, or any other list that could use the Conditional Text.
Conditional Texts can be created independently of Character Styles.
This should work.
What do you think about it?

Show page information in layout
I want the option to display a pagename and/or pagesize on top of pages. This would be very useful when designing several adds in the same ID-file, many with almost the same size. With the ability to name the pages it will be easier to navigate the file. I have attached an example.

New Pdf notes, needs a tool to move them out of of the way when working. and needs to stop zooming out when you click on the note text.
With PDF notes in indesign, the comment icon covers the spot that you need to make the changes. they need to be waaaay smaller or transparent or easy to move. and when you click on the comments to work out which comments are for what note icon, it zooms out rather than just panning to the icon. That would be fine, but when you have lots of stuff in the doc, indesign takes ages to zoom in and out.

Footnotes -- align to bottom of page
I have struggled for hours and searched everything I can find to learn if Adobe has EVER YET come up with a method to align footnotes to the exact bottom of a page or text frame. Mine ride a little high here, a little low there, depending on various things happening in the main text, so that I can't get a consistent align-to-bottom and always must deal with this. CONSIDER THIS. When inserting a footnote, automatically create a separate text frame that can then be manipulated -- its alignment set to bottom, for instance. Now, THAT seems a no-brainer and…

export pdf
In my previous version of InDesign CS5.5. I could immediately type a number in and it would replace the page range. Now i have to tab to that section or manually select the range with my mouse. It doesn't sound like a lot but it greatly slows down my workflow...
Should be an easy fix!4 votes -
