Variable Spot Colors from Illustrator Definable in InDesign
The ability to create a vector graphic in Illustrator, fill it with a variable spot color swatch (ie "Variable Color 1/2/3" etc.) and then when that spot color is imported into InDesign you can define it to match your project. Ideally on a per-instance basis, but even just editing the color globally from the swatches panel would be a big help. It would save hiving to make multiple versions of a graphic for each color you need - and that you may never need again.
For now my workaround is to make a layered PDF from Illustrator with a layer for each color and then turn on/off the various layers in the links panel, but not quite as effective as a variable color and gets tricky when the layers get complex.

New Larger, Horizontal Background Tasks Meter
Please enlarge the Background Tasks Meter and make it horizontal in the Application Bar. It's hard to tell if anything's happening during PDF export, it's so small.
It would be nice if it was an elongated meter or had the same basic info that the Background Task Palette shows when you click on it.
Thanks!

Improve Incopy
Incopy, as it stands today, has lots of problems. We cant use it while working with remote editors. Similarly my clients dont wan to use InCopy as the user interface is too complex for them. Also, some clients can't download a desktop product because of restrictions in their organizations.
InCopy is a good product but doesnt fulfill the needs of today's world. Please improve it5 votes -
Do not recalculate values entered into fields in other units
When I enter a leading in mm, InDesign will always recalculate to pt. Please give us the possibility, that InDesign does not recalculate values entered in other units.
Or at least give us the possibility to change the field value into different units. Now I have to blindly try out or use my calculator if I see a leading of »12,756 Pt« – is it 4,5mm or 4,45mm or what?

flowable sound in fixed Epub Layout
I would SO MUCH like to have the possibility to ad sound that is able to continue even if pages are turned when I export a file as Epub with fixed layout. I really need this option to be able to give readers of my childrens picturebook the possibility to listen to the book read aloud along with original background music.

HTML5 Typesetting
Our clients are sending the HTML5 inputs to load into InDesign. As we don't have direct feature to import HTML documents in InDesign, we're changing the extension into XML, also adding the META data before attempt to import the files. So it'll be good to have the direct feature within InDesign to accept the HTML files to import in InDesign without any issues, also accepting the HTML interactive features to reflect in the PDFs and in PublishOnline, will be very helpful to meet the client requirements.

TABS dialog box - so very tiny...
Am I the only person who finds the Tabs dialog box ridiculously small and difficult to work with? Even if you zoom right into text, the box itself remains the same. In trying to move the indent markers I'm constantly creating unwanted new tab markers which can be easily deleted, but still annoying. Any words of wisdom?

Implement Function "Lock Styles"
It would be very helpful, time and costsaving if there were a function to "lock" e.g. all paragraph-styles. Subsequent all modifications in paragraph-styled-textes are only allowed by using (also locked) text-styles.
In Addition to that it should be possible to lock the complete "CTRL+T" menu in order to avoid any "uncontrolled modifications".
All meanderings/abberations in textes are mostly caused "by mistake" and it takes hours of hours to correct (and proof!) this in documents an big books.

Add Mini-glyph panel and OpenType adornment in World Ready composer.
Add Mini-glyph panel and OpenType adornment in World Ready composer. There is no raison that we can't use this features on Hebrew or Arabic. For me (and others) OpenType features in Hebrew fobts (glyphs alternates, Justification Alternates, stylic sets, etc...) And for me (and other) are much more needed in Hebrew that in Latin.

add effects to paragraph shading/frame
This CC 2018 Update is fantastic!
The only thing I am missing is the lack of possibility to add effects like shadows, on paragraph shadings and frames.
This would be extremely helpful for a heavy-graphical CI, where text - spanning over more than one column or frame - must be underlaid with shadowed frames. Actually, when page breaks are to be corrected, I have to adjust those background frames manually, which is quite time-consuming.

Font stack for missing glyphs
Not every base text font has all the glyphs I sometimes need -- some need only a few math or Greek symbols, others need Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Hebrew, or even Devanagari. Currently I manually hunt and pick them from the closest alternative, selecting glyphs from a font CLOSE ENOUGH right down to the ever-reliable fallbacks of Times New Roman and Arial Unicode MS. It would help if I could define a custom font stack per "base font": a list of alternatives in a Preferred Order, which would each in turn be scanned for missing glyphs. Kind of (well, exactly like) browsers do with web pages. It would ideally be a separate list per base font; a sans font does not need the serif Greek from Symbol if there is a better choice (Myriad Pro, for example).

Break Footnotes Marker
If long footnotes breaks on two pages autoinsert some symbol on end of first part and some symbol on the beginning of the second part. Would also be nice to have the possibility to choose a glyph for these markers.

Option to open file path after PDF export
Could the PDF export dialog box have an option alonside 'View PDF after exporting' for something like, 'View file in finder after export', so that I can really quickly send the file in an email.
Or even 'Send file after export' so that I can super quickly flick the file off to our account managers?

Copy/ paste elements with actions without reversing order of actions
Allow copying and pasting of elements with actions attached to them without reversing the order of the actions that were copied. This would result in a huge boost to productivity.

Let users know (via email) if they should update their system or not
Guys, if you could let us know if we (Mac users) should update our Macs or not, that would be great. You got our emails. You could just send one email to all registered users 'hi guys, our products are not ready for new version of your OS, please be careful with update'. It costs you nothing. That would save a lot of our nerves. Of course, we could check your website before updating, but it is so inconvenient.

PDF text box cannot have the option of a "comb of characters".
PDF features - The text box in indesign cannot have the option of a "comb of characters". Also can we maybe be able to format these text boxes in InDesign rather than having to do it in Adobe Acrobat Pro.

Cannot paste grouped object into graphic cell - when could previously.
Adobe InDesign CC, 2017.1 Release
Version 12.1.0.56 x 64 buildI used to be able to paste a grouped object (for example, an image with a bit of text overlayed on it) into a graphic cell in a table. Currently this is not working - I can put a regular image (just a linked image) into a graphic cell, but as soon as I try to "paste into" a copied grouped object, it does not even offer paste into as an option.
This issue is present in tables used by multiple users in different files - not a bug in a single file.

Make the color of the hidden conditional text indicator match the color assigned to the condition
Currently, the color of the hidden conditional text indicator is orange. But why orange?why not something more useful? We are able to assign specific colors to each condition, so why not extend those colors to the hidden conditional text indicator as well? Right now, in order to see which condition is applied to hidden conditional text, we have to hover over it and hope that the tooltip pops up. Like this: http://documentgeek.blogspot.com/2011/06/how-to-see-hidden-conditional-text-in.html
But if there are number of hidden conditions, that trick doesn't work. At the very least, color-code the eyeball in the story editor. In the story editor, you can see that the table icon )right below the eyeball) displays the conditional text indicator (wavy underlines). The eyeball should display the conditional text indictor as well.
And the orange symbol should be gray, like the color of the condition.

Please, please, please support Emacs-style key bindings...
...at least for macOS. Virtually all macOS apps, especially those developed by Apple, support Emacs-style key binding that are incredibly useful for text navigation and text selection purposes. As an almost daily use of InDesign—and a 26-year employee of Adobe—I would very much like to see this supported. Most of the commands involve the use of the "control" key, which appears to be unused for InDesign keyboard shortcuts, so this is likely to be a no-brainer.

cannot print the document grid
Even with the options for print visible guides at baseline grid and print nonprinting objects selected it will not print the document grid.
