Find/Change Object Position
Feature request: add object position to Find/Change so the position of repeating objects can be changed en masse. Find/Change size would also be helpful.

Typesetter Mode: Disable Typing Toggle
I work for a book publisher and typeset hundreds of books a year. It would be nice to have a toggle that would disable the ability to add or remove characters from a text frame. Retain the ability to adjust leading, tracking, and other formatting, but prevent accidentally adding characters to the author's text. I currently map "W" to "esc" using keyboard shortcuts, but it would be a kind of nice feature to have built in.

Open more than one document per session (in Open > Recent)
I copydesk book files using InCopy. The book comes to me in chapters, 1 file per chapter, each in a separate subfolder. I work on each book/chapters for several weeks, so I have to close/open them several times a week (and turn off my computer every day, of course). I know there must be a way to merge these documents into a book or something like that, but that's not the point here (I have to accept this workflow and manage it as best I can). Also, I'm not talking here about file tabs, of course (I open several documents in tabs using the workflow I've just mentioned). The point is that there should be a way of opening more than one file at a time without me having to click Open > Document for each chapter/file (if there's a way of doing this, I would be glad if someone could tell me), just like in Windows Explorer/MacOS files management. If this option doesn't exist, I suggest that you could enable a way of opening more than one document at a time (for example, by selecting more than one file in Open > Recent or something like that). This would save me a lot of time (and procrastination-induced time wasting). Thank you.

Disable embedding assets... please...
I spend a huge amount of time in my work editing other people's artwork and the number one issue is embedded images that have been pasted in (instead of file-> place).
I have to jump through lots of hoops to get files to process correctly.
I'm not sure how it would work, but an option to have embedded files restricted by default, with a preference to allow it (with a warning dialog) would go a huge way to instilling the right working practice in new users.
And save me a huge amount of time.

Allow placed Word Documents to map styles within folders
When placing a word document into indesign using the map styles feature, inDesign will only automatically map to existing styles in the document if they are in the root folder of the styles pane. If styles are in subfolders new styles of the same name are created in the root and I manually have to remove them and relink to the existing ones.
This is a nightmare when you have a lot of styles to map, as you end up with a messy styles pallette - i'd love to create subfolders for list / headings / footer styles etc :)

Lightroom to InDesign "Edit with"
I really wish I could easily go between Lightroom and InDesign. I regularly create proposals etc in InDesign and load in images that print dark. I would love the ability to right click and edit in Lightroom. Lightroom is far better/intuitive for me for basic edits of images than Photoshop. You offer Edit in: Photoshop, After effects etc. In Premiere you offer many options but not Lightroom. Seems like it would (as a side benefit) encourage use of another of your products.

Select path for text wrap for Illustrator files
When applying text wrap to an image (PSD, TIF, JPEG) the user can select a path to apply text wrap to. This allows the user to edit the path within the image using Photoshop’s path editing tools. This is much better than InDesign’s pen for editing a text wrap path. This is probably the worst path editing feature in any professional graphics program. So it’s a good thing we can edit that path somewhere else.
You know what program has the best pen tool? Illustrator. It also has excellent operators for paths, such as expanding paths and merging them. I would love to be able to create and edit a contour using Illustrator’s pen and path tools.
TL;DR: There should be a way to save a path in Illustrator to use as a contour just as we can in Photoshop.

Enlarge printing on controls
Enlarge the print on the control panels so that people with low vision can see and work on InDesign and Photoshop. My vision is failing and I publish a 32 page magazine on InDesign.

Popup message if INDD document opens as "read only"
We work on a cloud server (Nasuni). There is a slight lag (up to a few minutes) when a user opens a file and the lock file is synced to the cloud server.
Occasionally, someone will be able to open a file that another user already has open. When that happens, in the document tab, the document shows as (read only). But there's nothing beyond that small text in the document tab to tell the user they are not working in a file they can save (and that someone else has the source document open).
What I would like to see is that when InDesign allows a user to open a read-only file, that they get a pop up window that informs them they are opening a read-only version, similar to the way that MS Office informs the user that the file is open elsewhere and asks them if they want to open a "read-only" version or cancel the document opening.

Make Extracted Shapes 'smarter'
Extract Shapes in InDesign is in essence a good idea, but with a bad execution.
And it has been like that (not so smart, that is) since its inception as the original Shapes app or even now within the Capture app for mobile.In stead of yielding a directly editable vector based result (with an Illustrator signature) it creates a purely black and white 'graphic' file format, which still needs a lot of handling to e.g. change the color of its vectors.
Suppose I'd like to use the traced outlines of a flower, or the extracted rough structure of bricks, in green, or brown. I can use the Capture app directly on a live photo or image, or apply the Extract Shapes feature inside of InDesign. But the result is a placed Cloud Library item, with no immediate or easy possibility to change its black/white appearance.
In essence, it's a bunch of vectors, but:
- I can't edit it easily as (a group of) vectors inside of InDesign;
- it won't let me edit it through opening the placed item in Illustrator;
- it forces me to accept the result as newly created Cloud Library item;
- but double clicking the Library item won't open it in Illustrator either.I have to go to Illustrator, whip up a blank file, drag the Cloud Library item into it, copy the vectors to use them in InDesign, or drag them in the Cloud Library as a NEW item, to be used in other applications like InDesign (and edit them anytime in Illustrator).
Why not let this Extracted item simply be or become a vector-based, Illustrator-aware item, and let me maybe choose to paste or even replace it immediately as a group/compound of black and white vectors or to place it as a Library item but with the obvious option to immediately edit the vectors through Illustrator ?

Make spellcheck change colour when complete
When checking a story of several thousand words it's easy to miss the phrase 'Spellcheck complete' at the top of the box when you're busy looking at the page itself. Up to a couple of generations ago the box would change colour when complete which you could see out of the corner of your eye. Very handy – please bring it back.

Indesign creates an incorrect href for Acrhive.org links
When InDesign creates the href for a link from Archive.org it does not href to archive.org, but to the dead link.
example: the typed link is
"https://web.archive.org/web/20220320173121/https://freewheelingeasy.com/
creates an href for "https://freewheelingeasy.com/"
rather than the correct href of "https://web.archive.org/web/20220320173121/https://freewheelingeasy.com/"1 vote -

Direct selection tool selects everything - in 90 percent of the cases is unusable
The direct selection tool in inDesign and Illustrator is almost unusable due to it is selecting everything it touches.
It would be much better to have an option to select the points of the currently active object. I have lots of stacked objects, I want to work with one of the objects, but as soon as I draw a rectangle over the desired points, EVERYTHING is selected everywhere. This makes the tool almost unusable, because it is unable to make a normal selection, it's too greedy.
At least in Illustrator there is a thing "isolation mode" but in inDesign the other objects has to be hidden in order to work with a certain object. Of course, hiding other objects makes the editing again unusable, since there is no feedback on what happens when the edited object alters the other objects.
All other software is able to make a normal direct selection tool, but the Adobe's direct selection tool was always unusable, annoying and a pain.The direct selection tool in inDesign and Illustrator is almost unusable due to it is selecting everything it touches.
