dimensions lines, lines to show size between points
It would be nice nice to have a line tool or a text box that you can link to a line that shows the height or width of a line so you can create easy dimensions lines for products as we oftun need to provide dimentions and sometime they change so you need to change the text box value each time as well.
It should be CAD style feature please see reference image

Would be a cool effect to have transparent paragraph lines.

Choose directory when exporting as separated single PDF files
When exporting to PDF as single page separated files, add the ability to choose a directory and then to check which file to replace or ignore as in export for the web feature in Photoshop…

Please, please add the average horizontal/vertical line between to points to Indesign like Illlustrator has.
being able to make a straight line between two points is so essential. this would make Indesign so much more user friendly.

Distribute gradient colour stops evenly
It would be nice if there was a button in the gradient palette that automatically distributed all the colour stop locations evenly from 0% to 100%.
Often gradients have 5+ colour stops in them, and it becomes tricky when adding more stops to then rearrange them all across the entire length.

Style Application "Tool Tips"
When I create a "complex" style definition with a long set of embedded styles and a "next" style, I want my coworkers and contractors to apply the full style to the correctly selected copy by using the "Apply (style) then Next Style, Clear Overrides" option (right-click Style Name in the Styles Menu).
I would be great if I could attach a "Tool Tip" ("Style Application Tip?") to the Style Name in the Menu--it would appear on application of the style, or perhaps on rollover. Attaching the Tip to Templated Objects on the page would be great also.
Basically, I want to embed production instructions directly into my template.
Thanks for reading

Save CC prefs across devices
Seems pretty basic: remember my CC app prefs as soon as I login. So if I get a new computer and login, I don't accidentally download all apps in a language different to what my language setting was on the old machine.

Change link names from links palette
Sometimes we link to Illustrator or Photoshop files in a Guidelines document, which is a reference to that file as an asset, eg a logo.
When lots of files are used in this way we often only then see that our files (links) are not names consistently. If we change the filename, then we have to relink everything.
If we could simply rename the linked files from within the Links palette it would save a lot of time and frustration.
This option could be dangerous for larger workgroups, but any suggestions would be appreciated.3 votes -
Add auto login feature
Please add auto login feature for Indesign so I wouldn't have to type my password in front of the customer or have the browser with my exposed gmail logged in. It's better in v13.

MSO Hidden Default State
Currently, to revert back to an MSO not being visible after one or more of the states have been active, you have to create atop-level "blank" state that contains an empty frame of some sort, and show that state.
This seems like a workaround that should be built-in. Maybe a few new choices can be added to the "Show/Hide" options in a button's choices:
- Reset "X" MSO to invisible state
- Rest all MSO's to invisible state
...or something similar.
Thanks!!

Character palette dropdown menu needs to expand full within workspace (revised post)
Apologies, but I posted this before but forgot to include screen grabs. In InDesign CC 2018 when I selected a typeface from the character window drop-down menu, the drop-down expanded to fill my workspace vertically no matter where my character palette was on the screen. Now in CC 2019 it only expands to show 19 or 20 fonts in a much smaller drop-down window. I would love either to go back to the way it was before or have the option to enlarge the drop-down typeface selection window.
See the difference between CC 2018 and 2019 in the screen shots. The longer menu is from CC 2018.

When relinking files, prefer to show entire filename instead of path
When relinking files a dialogue oops up where the relinked file is selected. At the top of the dialogue the path to the file is shown. If there isn't enough space for the entire path, including filename, it is condensed by removing some text in the middle. If there is enough room to show the entire filename that should be shown. The path to the file is not as important as the name of the file, especially when relinking multiple files which are often in the same folder and I am already looking in that folder.

Saved searches in CC Libraries
It would be great to be able to share searches via CC libraries, for example GREP searches in InDesign are extremely usable but not all users have the knowledge to create them. To be able to share them with your team would be very useful

User defined Indesign Preview Page
When starting Indesign, you get shown a lightbox of recent files with a preview image. It would be great to be able to user define one page in your document to be the preview image, as sometimes, the first page is not the best to be used to make the difference.
In my screen capture image, selecting page 3 as the preview image would be more distinguishable.

InDesign needs to be able to work with files that are 100% cloud-based
Our company has moved all of our files to BOX (cloud-based). InDesign's links do not recognize URL so it defaults to our local drive.
We had to reach out to a company called Silicon Publishing and purchase a connector (plugin/extension) to deal with all the links that need to be cloud based (a true URL path).
Why had Adobe not addressed this and why are we having to purchase plugins to make the software work correctly?

User Interface flexibility
I would like to see the ability to choose the older interface layout with the menus placed on the top vs the side. With each new design, it is a learning experience in finding the tools necessary to do the tasks needed.

Allow a "consolidate" type of packaging that doesn't create new copies
The ability to take the current working document and consolidate copies of links and document fonts around the existing document, rather than create an additional copy of the INDD working file. Using the Package feature for files in progress that are simply being moved between workstations is problematic because you have to remember to delete the "old" version that was just packaged. I would like a way to make 100% sure that everything I need for the existing file is organized within one master folder, without having to embed all the links or manually delete duplicate INDD files.

Make panel contextual menus accessible from Properties panel
I really love the new Properties menu - it does a great job of saving monitor real estate. It looks like the April 2019 update has fixed a few of the initial teething troubles but one thing still bugs me. If I want to access any of the contextual menu options, I can't do it via Properties. It means, unless I know every shortcut, or want to go through the menu bar I still need to keep panels such as Paragraph open all the time, just in case I need to get to one of those options.
It'd be great if a small button appeared in the mini sections that pop up in the Properties panel, to allow you to access the full range of commands for that section.
