Nearly six years later, you can see that Adobe isn’t considering responding to this. There are many InDesign development lags and other indications that indicate the company is not putting adequate resources into InDesign. I feel sorry for their dev team. There are clearly products that Adobe is motivated to develop and sell, but their commitment to print has been fading for years, and InDesign is the canary in the coal mine.

as a side note for anyone else frustrated with this, there is a script from Keith Gilbert that will automatically copy the artwork, paste it into illustrator, then save as SVG in the same folder as your INDD file.

it's a helpful workaround, since it avoids manual steps, but it's frustrating to see that Keith can write a script to do this and Adobe still hasn't managed to integrate a feature that used to exist back into InDesign.

Currently, copy and paste into Adobe illustrator is workaround, please include Export as SVG (especially selection) as well within Indesign.

I would like to see this option as part of data merge with the ability to run datamerge to export individual svgs with file names based off of a value or name in the data file.

Oh yes, this feature would make work so much easier.

let me add my voice to this request. my company moves a lot of graphics that are created in InDesign into PPT. right now, the three ways we can do this are:

1. Export to PNG (not editable, scaling issues)
2. Add to CC library, place in PPT (not editable)
3. Copy to Illustrator, export as SVG, place in PPT (additional steps, occasional issues w/copy/paste)

if we could export directly to SVG, that would make things simpler.

Just copy pasted one element from indesign to illustrator and works, let me know if works for you too!

I agree - it is essential in my workflow to be able to export SVG from all apps. InDesign is inexplicably missing this option.

A good work-around is to export your InDesign file as IDML, then import the IDML file in Affinity Publisher, and export as SVG.

Inexpensive and effective.

Adobe seems to have missed the mark on media specialists that create documents, content, media across multiple platforms. If I'm creating a bunch of signs, documents, catalogs, flyers, etc, in InDesign. I then have to recreate much of that work in Illustrator or XD. I need an SVG export tool to maintain these pages, layers, artwork, fonts, and colors into digital ads that can also be exported in IAB standard files for placement in various ad networks.

Svg can export as code not images, if i export to epub. Svg can place in object export option in indesign.

I agree, it would also be nice if InDesign supported placing SVG files instead of having to convert them to a PNG preview in order to place them.
