Option: make subsection headers not persist beyond their ends.
For text variables for running headers/footers, the default behavior is as described in the help: "If there is no occurrence of the style on the page, the previous occurrence of the applied style is used." Not sure if this is a bug or a feature, but if you are using headers or footers for both sections and subsections, and some sections have subsections and some don't, then you get a header with the name of a subsection many pages back, even though it's not on the page. Having an option to turn off this persistence would make this feature work…

Bug: XML w/Images Export (filename)
Just discovered during XML w/images export that ID is converting images w/spaces in filenames to underscores (causing mismatches, XML itself is correct) — is this a bug? Using ID 13.0.1
Btw - I know this is a feature request post, but I can't find an easy way to submit bugs!

Find/Change tags
This is important in order to save time and avoid using third-party code editors, especially when edits have been made in InDesign such as anchored images being placed only on some listed items, that won't render in them.

Could copy operations in InDesign use APFS Cloning to save space?
Whenever there's an option that copies files in InDesign, would it be possible to it to use the APFS method for copying where the files are cloned? Like when using "Copy Link(s) To..." or possibly when packaging documents as well. This would help with hard drive space and clutter when working with files on an APFS formatted hard drive.

Incompatibility with Mac OS High Sierra
I just updated my Mac OS to Sierra 10.13.2. I can no longer use my pre-2017 InDesign. The program opens but none of the console works and it gets 'stuck' so that I cannot even ask the program to close once opened. Is there a fix? Thanks.

Make tutorials easier for newbies to understand
Include pictures of where these tools or paths are located. Maybe a convertable word search that offers suggestions of the proper terminology to give the user more ideas on how to search for what s/he is looking for. Insert non-tech terms/definitions using common words and not only geek-speak.

Change billing from month to month to one time purchase, buy updates.
I was able to purchase the whole suite in 2004. Now I only need InDesign, and your monthly popup is a pain. Just let me buy the program and sell me updates as they come out. Your popup is inaccurate, claiming I have not purchased the program and would I like to continue with a trial version. I don't want to be bugged by this every month. Just sell me the program.

Add area property to Indesign DOM
Please add readonly area property to all shapes (Rectangle, polygon, ...) which contains the total surface coverage. This property should be accessible using scripting... This is already present in Illustrator ...

Maintain Stable Versions
Maintain a specific version until a client understands and accepts the update. Surprise changes wastes time and adds frustration. All of a sudden things like Shading pops up in my text and I do not know where it came from and there is nothing in the help system that points me to the very simple method to either change or turn it off. As an example Ctrl + Shift + U adds or removes underlines. In my case the text is highlighted with a random color.

Co-creation: Allow multiple designers to work on the same InDesign document
Often we have stringent deadlines to meet. Thus multiple designers work in parallel. It will be helpful if multiple designers can work on same file. Currently only 1 designer can work on the file at a time. This makes the process inefficient.

Better offline interactive products.
More and more product needs to be interactive.
Indesign allows us to make beautiful interactive pdf's. But there's a problem, the i-pdf doesn't work on all pdf-viewers and pre-viewers. Only adobe-reader or opening in the browser, but not directly from for example Gmail.Also some functions in indesign could work much better, for example the button; it work perfectly as an roll-over, but not as a click-go-to-pageX. Those functions should be usable together.
Can we make an i-pdf feel like/work as an offline website?And i would love to see more features/functions!

Auto saving to HTML.
Is it possible to simultaneously save to .idml at same time as saving to native Ind file format? Using tryout now and wanted to save any live work both ways so if I decide not to subscribe, I won't have to go back and save all docs to idml.

Make conversion of older ID documents faster loading
I had the occasion to open a couple of older inDesign documents that are stored on my NAS drive. At first, I thought it was the network speed that took so long until I saw the popup dialog box explaining that conversion was in process. I can't believe how long it took to open the document. Am I the only one experiencing this or is inDesign becoming unproductive?

Prevent multiple sound files on a page from playing at the same time in an Interactive PDF
Have 2 buttons on a page in indesign cc 2018, each starts a sound file playing, if reader clicks on one and then the second both files play at the same time. I want to click on one button and have it play a sound file and turn off the other sound files if they are playing. Think of it as a menu of sound files in a list but I want only one to be allowed to play at a time.

Edit undo on specific object or page
It would be great to be able to select an object or page and undo the last change that you made to it.
I think this would be good in illustrator too.

Path to be for every action (open/save/import ...) the same in dialog
Indesign in CS had the feature that every path in every dialogue was the same (when you opened a doc the import path was the same as well). Nowadays I feel like using Xpress all over again: every dialog has the path it had from the last access (open would be e.g. on C:\, place file on D:\foo\bar and so on. Can there maybe a checkbox to sync paths between the open dialogues that indesign manages?
