Height & width in object styles needs more options
I did try out the new H&W feature in CC2018 using it on a image frame with a picture inside it. I anchored it to the heading of each chapter and wanted to see if I could resize the image from the object style panel. This did not work the way I was hoping for; There is no way to lock the H&W proportions so that the frame fits the image dimensions. I could not determine a reference point from where the frame is growing. A great upgrade to the feature would be: Lock proportions, scale content with the frame…

Improve override & "mixed overrides" notice on paragraph styles: give useful info
If a paragraph has some override(s) in it that do not affect the entire paragraph, you'll see the little paragraph symbol at the bottom of the panel light up. This tells you there's an override. No + sign will appear next to the paragraph style name, though, unless the cursor happens to be in text that has the override. For example, if one word is in italics but your cursor is elsewhere in the paragraph, you don't have any way to know what the override is. If you select the entire paragraph, the + appears, but when you hover over…

Ad the possibility to have Paragraph Style add a break before or after
In many cases, I want a break after or before a Paragraph with a certain style. e.g.: a chapter heading often needs a Page Break before.
How convenient would it be when this is integrated in a Paragraph Style!7 votes -
Add Wavy to Custom New Stroke Style
While it would be nice, to have full custom stroke support like Illustrator, It would be great to have a custom wavy style in addition to the current dash, dotted and stripe options. A simple option to select the wavy style with variables for, amplitude, frequency, randomness, and a toggle of smooth or linear. This would enable a lot more variety in custom strokes.

Object Layer Options to be part of Object Styles
Allow Object Layer Options to be included as an attribute for Object Styles.
Example: I have an annual report for a group of charities under one umbrella organization. It lists various projects the charities are working on. Some projects are operated by only one charity, some two, some all three. I have an Illustrator file with a graphic for each charity. I use Object Layer Styles to show or hide the symbols for each charity. I must use Object Layer Options for each use of this graphic to indicate which charity(s) are operating each project. It can be very time…

Ability to create and edit Object styles in the Properties panel
Trying to lessen dependence on existing panels in an attempt to speed up workflow. So if I could create and edit full Object styles by accessing that option—similar to Para and Character styles on Properties panel, that would be great. I know the Properties panel is a work in progress, so hoping this may appear sometime in the not-to-distant future

Possibility of defining several alternative Font Styles in one Character Style
Possibility of defining several alternative Font Styles in one Character Style.
E.g. Character Style: Italic
Font Style: Regular Italic OR RegularItalic OR Italic OR ItalicRegular OR Italic RegularCurrently working with two families of fonts, one of which has italic defined as Italic and the other as Regular Italic, this is impossible. You have to define two character styles and search the whole text.

Add a feature that allows you to predefine paragraph style spacing based on which style comes before or after it
I have set up some paragraph styles in my InDesign document that have space-before and space-after set on them. Some of the styles are for headers. When the headers precede a regular paragraph, I want the space to be there, but when they precede another header, I want there to be less space. In web development, I can write rules in CSS that say things like this:
p { margin-top:10px; }
h2 + p { margin-top:5px }I am able to make the margin-top narrower on a <p> tag that is immediately preceded by an <h2> tag, but otherwise, it's…

Consistent arrowhead styles
It would be helpful to have the same arrowhead options available for InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Sometimes I need to quickly create a legend in InDesign to match a diagram create in Illustrator, but the options for arrowhead styles are limited/different.

Variables in formatting
Instead of using absolute values in formatting dialogues, let us define and use variables.
I often work in long documents and have dozens of styles. Using the leading for my body copy as a reference many other formatting options will use the same value or fractions or multiples of that value. Body copy might use 14 point leading with 7 points of space between paragraphs. Subheads might have an extra 7 points above. Main heads might use 21 point or 28 point leading. Bullets might use 14 points for the indent. If I need to change my leading I need…

Integrate a Content :before and :after to Styles as it is possible in CSS
In the character and paragraph styles definition: Give us the opportunity of automatically add content before and after the text (give the opportunity to style this additionally with a character style), to which the style is applied. Currently a conent:before is only possible with using a paragraph style a trick (see image, sorry for the German ...).
Working with XML data or other equivalent text sources you can add media related text, that doesn't alter the content. This is quite important, if the content should be exported after production.

Improving Effects and Gradients for Objects
1) Making Effects easier to copy/paste blending options like in Photoshop layers between several objects (similar to pasting blending to several objects)
2) Also, improving precision and granularity of the rather smallish and sensitive gradient feather bar using mouse. When re-applying a gradient, it is difficult to slide existing gradient points without adversely affecting applied gradient to object, sometimes its easier to just restart a new one.

Allow Custom Cell Padding on Imported Spreadsheets
When importing excel or spreadsheets (.xls), Indesign CC automatically sets the cell padding on top/bottom as 0.0556" (or equivalent). There is currently no way to set default cell padding when Indesign is open without any publications/files open, nor is there an option when importing a document/spreadsheet.
Either allow for imported cell padding to be listed within the 'Show More Options" within the import screen, or allow for a global default cell padding to be entered into Indesign.
When publishing files that pull or link cell data from excel, each time the excel file is updated, it is a VERY manual…

Easy drag and drop to base one text style on another
I would love for an easy drag and drop to base one text style on another in the paragraph and character style palettes. The idea is to drag a paragraph style (para) that you want to base on and drop onto another style (parafirst or paralast). I work on book designs with lots and lots of style tags. It will save designers so much time to do it all in the palettes instead of opening up each style and scroll through the style list every time.
In addition, similar to how we apply parent/master pages to pages, it’d…

Color-code paragraph styles
I'm working on a huge training book with dozens of styles. I've stashed them in style groups, but it is still a chore, even inside a group, to scroll, scroll, scroll to try to find the style I need -- and it is also a chore to switch among the style groups themselves -- as many of the styles are used on every page due to the nature of the material. It would be SO VERY HELPFUL if one could color-code paragraph styles (a la the Layers palette) so that when there are this many styles, the ones a person…
