Option-Click to indent both sides of a paragraph
When using cursor to click on the up/down arrows in the paragraph palette to increase or decrease indent, hold the option key to indent both sides. (Option key is common to constraining reshape to both sides of an object.)

Native language hyphenation
My German client would love if their words broke naturally not at random bits of words, similar to how shows the proper place for word breaks: www.silbentrennung24.de

Auto resize text to fit text box
Auto resize text to fit text box with a character limit would allow me to use it as a dynamic form that would be print ready.

ignore text boxes filled with placeholder text during spell check
If you fill a text box from the 'fill with placeholder text' function perhaps it could be highlighted a different colour or have a symbol on the edge which highlights this, and can be ignored during the spell check function. it's super frustrating to have to keep clicking ignore on lorem ipsum!

Allow the use of World-Ready composers and Japanese composers in the same document.
Allow the use of World-Ready composers and Japanese composers in the same document so that someone can typeset in every language in the same file. At the moment you have to choose between ME/NA or CJK versions of InDesign.

spell check - add option to limit to one layer
Please, please add an option to limit spell check to one layer only throughout the document - for example the currently chosen layer or the layer with a specified language. When doing translations of children books we need to work with two text layers - one for the original layer and one for the translation. When running spell check at the end of a translation it is always highly annoying to have Indesign jump randomly between the layers resp. languages. This bug renders spell check almost useless for translation-projects as Indesign usually chooses to stay in the wrong layer. Btw:…

Give us the option to ignore certain instances of spelling & grammar errors, just like Adobe Illustrator.
Just like Adobe Illustrator, please add optional checkboxes to either include/exclude things like "repeated words" or "uncapitalized start of sentence" instances. Also... Illustrator has a section of the dialog box where you can optionally ignore (1) uppercase words, (2) roman numerals, and (3) words with numbers. This would be a great feature to implement within InDesign as well, especially since InDesign is the go-to program for layouts.

Hyphenation (H&J): Don’t break compound words except at hyphens
Compound words should only be divided at existing hyphens when dividing words for line breaks.
Example: “award-winner” should break only after “award-“ not as “award-win-ner”
Other: “heart-stopping” can break after “heart-“ but never “heart-stop-ping”

text. direction. button. Give it back.
I have InDesign CC, I think it's multilingual, and now I have to do a layout entirely in Arabic. After a whole day of trying to work out how to do it I realized that the reason it was so difficult to change text direction from LTR to RTL is BECAUSE THERE IS NO MORE BUTTON (I used to accidentally activate it on my old photoshop, that is why I remember there being one)
ANYWAY
two days in and I still can't find the direction option ANYWHERE and at this point I'm royally ****** because I'm either too dumb to…4 votes -
Link Font Size with Leading
As someone who is often laying out text in large booklet type documents, I often need to adjust text and leading on text to visually suit the design Im working on. An annoying function Ive run into (definitely not the end of the world) is that if I may need to adjust the size of the font and the leading of it to suit what I need... If I then adjust the size of the text, the 'custom' leading size doesn't constrain to the size of the font as you increase it.
This would be an awesome feature to be…

Show Cross-References
Under Type menu, have option to show cross-references, or have a way to show that something is a cross reference when showing "hidden" characters.
Currently after creating a cross-reference, it is very easy to lose it by typing over the text because nothing differentiates the cross-referenced text from regular text in paragraph.
Would also be cool if there were some sort of control feature as in "indexing" so that you could see all the cross-references that have been created. Very helpful in long documents.
Thank you!

sort paragraph styles
I'd like to have the option to sort paragraph styles by alphanumeric sequence. That would make it much easier to find the right styles after importing them from multiple documents.

Highlight text
While I know this can be achieved by creating a thick rule and offsetting it just right, the ability to highlight text with 1 click (like the underline button) would be a time saver.

Default text box to "Formatting Affects Text" rather than "Formatting Affects Container".
If a Text box uses all the same color of text within, upon direct selecting the box it should default to an active "Formatting Affects Text" rather than "Formatting Affects Container". Or give me the option to make this the default in Preferences. Pressing (J) before each and every swatch click to trigger this formatting is tedious and unnecessary.

A more efficient indexing system for book files.
A more efficient indexing system for book files would be ideal. Also, when using the Index window, it would be great if the window could stay open and allow me to continue entering words. If I don't select desired text, enter index reference, "add all," then close the window, it doesn't populate correctly.
It would be ideal for me to keep the window open, enter desired text (without selecting in the file), click "add all," then continue with more entries .4 votes -
Please can InDesign use true OpenType superscripts and subscripts if they are available in the font
Please can InDesign use true OpenType superscripts and subscripts if they are available in the font, in the same way that it will use the true OpenType small caps.
Or can there be a way in the paragraph styles to tell it to use them. (Not a character style as they are not necessarily tagged, they just pull through from Word or other manuscript source as superscript or subscript.)4 votes -
Change dictionary across paragraph styles
I hope in a feature to change the dictionary across all/selected paragraph styles in a document with a single command. It should be a saving time feature.

In Mojikumi Table, paragraph indent size to be fixed without depending on the first character
InDesign Japanese Edition 15.0 or earlier
At present, the indent size depends on the attribute of the first character, so when the character with a different size or scale comes first, the indent amount changes.
Instead, I want the indent to be fixed based on the text size in the paragraph style or frame grid settings.
The attached image is the current specification.P.S. If the first character of a paragraph has a decoration such as an underline, the decoration will also accompany the indentation. I think this is a bug.(additional.jpg)
