Find/Replace Font
I have replaced the Type 1 font that is used in almost all my documents with the True Type version. It would be helpful if the "replace with" option in the "find/replace font" menu would list the most frequently used substitutions.

Toggle between Text Tool and Selection Tool
I am guessing most users' experience is like mine: I am constantly going back and forth between the Text tool (working within a text block) and the Selection tool (to select/move a text block handle, or reach for something else). It's something I do dozens of times an hour during a work session. Pagemaker used to have a toggle between these two tools, which was easily accessible to the non-mousing hand: Command-Spacebar. I would urge the development of this toggle in future InDesign releases.
I know you can activate the Selection tool with the Escape key, but that's a long…
2 votesWhen you have the Text Tool selected & working inside a Text Frame (cursor blinking inside the text frame), you can hold down the Cmd key. When you do that, you will immediately see the 9-points of the text frame getting highlighted, letting you Move the Text Frame by holding down on the edges with the mouse. You can resize using of the 9-points as well.
Hope this helps. See the attached demo. -
Better justification using OpenType Variable Font width axis
Please improve the justification options in InDesign. Variable font width axis could significantly contribute to better text justification – see the attached example.

PDF comments: see/keep local formatting
I’m missing two things. First, the PDF Comments panel menu doesn’t display local formatting (italic, bold, bold italic) whereas these are visible in Acrobat. Second and most important, when accepting a comment, any local formatting doesn’t translate into InDesign. As if the whole content is treated as plain text.

Allow option to specify pages to spell check!
Give us an option to specify what pages to spell check, or spell check entire document.
Sometimes when you have a long document and you've only made revisions to one page, you don't want to have to spell check the entire document all over again. Think annual reports!

Add grep Location option for "end of line"
Hi,
it's possible add the option for grep location, similar to the "end of paragraph" option, but for the "end of the line"? I think it's very helpful for advanced formatting long text.Thank you

Automated Language detection
Please consider a automatic intelligence, which could automatically detect the languages used in a document.
In nearly all texts I’m typesetting for journals and specialized books, there are parts of foreign languages inside the text (quotes, citations, ...). It would be genious, if InDesign could automatically search, find, and mark those bits of foreign languages, and change the language mode for those bits, so that the correct hyphenation will be applied.
In combination with the ability to unlimit the number of character styles, that can be applied to character or text, that would be a very powerful feature.

Equations and Citations and Bibliography Feautures
Bring the most desired features such as Equations and Citations and Bibliography fields as in Word. Currently I am writing my dessertation and I have to insert my reference list the hard way and I can't even type my mathematical equations as it should be typed.
InDesign CC doesn't bring features for that (so that I don't have to rewrite references each time I need) neither to insert mathematical equation as in Word. WORD DOES IT BETTER!

Dynamic Spelling Additions
Hi there,
I've lost sleep over this one. So, I'd like to suggest a feature that would be a little more helpful in the future in regards to fixing erros in a document. Here's the problem. As, it happens regularly.
I am provided a document with many highlighted spelling revisions. In the "DynamicSpellingChange" image dynamic spelling highlights all the families last names in a document. And just underneath Victoria Tseng Paepcke, Helen's Neice is spelled wrong.
This is my human error. As I typed this in after sending a revised proof that was already incorrect because I was in a…

View Verso/Recto Page as Transparent Overlay
Include within View > Extras an option to turn on a transparent and mirrored overlay of the other side of a given page in a book. Allow for customization of transparency and color. Provides a quick way to check the baseline grid is properly aligned and that there wont be conflict with elements on previous page.

Custom Font Categories
I have several types of fonts in my personal collection that would like to group into custom categories for easy access. For example, Retro, Holiday, Customer Name, etc. It would be nice to access them where indicated in the screenshot. " "Favorites" is fine, and "Font Filtering" works too, but would it be possible to have a handful of custom groupings available?

Copy/Paste text formatting
It would be nice to be able to copy and paste formatting from/to text like you can copy and paste settings from one photo to the next in Lightroom. This way you would not have to create styles for every formatting choice that repeats.

Remove first line indent after a heading
We need an option to set First Line Indent to zero when a paragraph follows a heading.
For example, perhaps you have Head1, Head2, and BodyText. Head2 is based on Head1. BodyText has a first line indent. My suggestion is that InDesign should have a checkbox labeled "Set first line indent to zero when following:" and then provide a list of paragraph styles in the document.
You could either allow people to choose Head1 AND Head2 (multiple selection list), or you could allow them to choose Head1 and it would automatically apply to Head2 because that is based on Head1.

Please include more options in Check Spelling
If you could please include similar features as the Find/Change button to the Check Spelling option - an ignore/include masters button during a spell check would be particularly useful.

Define increased/decreased italicisation/***** and weight relatively (independent of font) on Character Styles
If I'm defining a Character Style called "Emphasis", essentially I want to be able to apply this to any text in the document and for that text to be italicised.
However, this doesn't work because:
- I might apply it to a font where the italic style is called "Oblique" not "Italic"
- I might apply it to a font set in Medium. Now it returns to a regular weight with Italics, rather than Medium Italic.
There needs to be a way to define "Increased/Decreased Italicisation/*****" or "Increased/Decreased Weight" on a Character Style. InDesign would then:
- Find the Italic style that most…

Add real Next Page Number / Previous Page Number
At present, Next Page Number and Previous Page Number actually means Next Text Frame Page Number / Previous Text Frame Page Number. It is very confusing. I suggest to add real Next Page Number / Previous Page Number which would add – surprise! – next page number and previous page number to the text.
It would be very helpful, in situations you want to have page numbers only at one page of a spread (10/11, 12–13 etc). At the moment, there is only a stupid and slow workaround with linked text frames, which does not work in every situations.9 votes -
Data merge and type formatiing
We data merge price tickets for retail from excel into InDesign. It would save so much formatting time if you could change the data merge fields 'case'.
For example: could I change a data merge field to Sentence case, or Title Case etc? I know the feature ALL CAPS works but that's it?6 votes
