An error occurred while saving the comment Mike D. commentedAndre - while that might be true, that doesn't change the UI terminology - it's still called a "Parent" in terms of the title of the object. See my screenclip (InDesign 18.2)
I still believe the time spent changing this terminology within the UI, changing all the help resources, webpages and other references regarding the Pages Palette, could have been better spent fixing the performance bugs and crashes and bloat that STILL cause productivity loss for the user. Especially when the 4 votes for this subject pale into insignificance to the several hundreds who suffer daily from crashes, slow-downs and spinning beachball performance on both top-line Intel and Apple Silicon devices.

"Master page" makes more sense from a terminology viewpoint. How many people (until now) have seen GUI elements with gender/race/historical overtones? I know I never have...
Does this now we have to change the titles of all "controller-controlled" terminologies?

Hello All,
Thank you for your patience all this while.
We had launched our investigation into the matter to get to the root cause of the problem. As the part of our investigation, we had reached out to many of you personally over email.
We have concluded our investigation and have come up with few findings.1. For many of the users the issue got fixed after updating InDesign to a newer version.
2. For some, the issue got resolved after disabling a third-party application such as Suitecase fusion etc.
3. For few, the issue was intermittent and is no longer reproducible.
4. For majority of the users, the underlying cause of the performance issue was identified to be related to span columns, cross-references, third party plugin etc.We have created separated threads for these issues and we are now working towards resolving them.
However, over the time this thread…

Customer comments
- InDesign lags when rearranging text boxes, adding image frames, adjusting frames that already exist
- Selecting an item (e.g. text frame) in small and really uncomplicated documents has slight but very noticeable delays/lags, almost as if the click hangs and makes the item drag a little instead of just being selected.
- Performance degradation is observed if more than 1 document is opened
- Creating packages (File > Package) takes so much time – especially collecting image files into the Links-folder. This behavior is generally observed with Illustrator files.
- Performance degradation is observed while working on indd document and not with the IDML of the indd document.
- Lag observed for almost every action from selecting objects, resizing objects, or moving objects
Troubleshooting steps tried to resolve issues
- Disable 3rd party plugins - One of the customer has tried with Suitcase Fusion but there was no improvement in the performance.

An error occurred while saving the comment Mike D. commentedI hear you Maureen - this for me happened from the moment I installed inDesign v18 on iMac 27" (late 2020) 3.6GHz i9 10-core, 64GB RAM, AMD Radeon Pro 5700XT 16GB
It's not a machine issue, or macOS issue - it's just a bloatware issue with InDesign. More features keep getting added instead of fixing the issues and performance that matter.
I'v also tried cache clearing, using Onyx from titannium.fr to clear my mac's caches and application stores. I've tried uninstalling, re-installing, GPU/CPU preview. No difference. Spinning beachball on spacebar scrolling, entering text, scrolling page.
If you save your document as an inDesign Markup (idml) and reopen that, you get about a 10 minute window where performance returns almost to normal, before glugging back to treacle-town.
Fix it, Adobe.

An error occurred while saving the comment Mike D. commentedSame issue. Mac OS Big Sur (11.6.1), InDesign 17.0.1. Extensis Suitcase Fusion (22.0.0 (10183) )
Seems to be unrelated to inDesign prefs, Caches, where the document is stored (i.e. SMB network volume or local volume) etc.Have tried uninstalling inDesign (and creative cloud for that matter), removing all prefs (and resetting prefs to defaults) but it makes no difference.
If we can save a crash report, we'd submit it. But you don't even SEE a crash report!
Have watched the computer, and it's not (as I initially thought) related to AppNap, or sleep/hibernate status, or energy saver settings. These all reset to defaults, but still happens.Interesting that it won't crash when you have no document open (welcome screen). Creating a new document and leave it idle - crashes between 10 - 30 minutes later.
Re-opening Indesign, reveals the document you've been working on (obviously from from recovery data).Any suggestions from anyone else would be appreciated...

Hi Denise - just a suggestion - try viewing and working on your document in the Preview mode (with no items selected, no text entry cursor, pressing W on keyboard). Your pasteboard should be masked to grey when in this mode.
For my instal, the performance lag issues are reduced when I do that, including text entry. Scrolling speeds improve also.
