There is an option in the Layers panel flyout menu called “Ungroup Remembers Layers”. This is ON by default. That’s why when you ungroup, the objects go back to the layers to which they belonged prior to the grouping. You can uncheck this option if you want to have the objects get ungrouped on the same layer as the group.

The gradient panel is ARCHAIC and USELESS. I'm sorry but it's a disgrace to Adobe's name and I am embarrassed for them that their gradient panel is so pitiful.

In Preferences dialog > Advanced Type, there is an option at the bottom called 'Show Adornment...'
Uncheck this option to stop showing "O" on selected Text Frame.
Hope you'll find it useful.

This is a huge point of frustration in my day-to-day work. Please give us this common-sense basic feature.

This is such a basic and obvious need. I can't believe we all pay so much for Adobe products to not have the basics covered, it's sad.
