Hebrew Text Bugs in InDesign 2025
Incorrect cursor movement with arrow keys in Visual movement mode: When working with Hebrew text in Visual movement mode, the arrow keys do not move the cursor in the expected or desired direction. This issue disrupts editing and text arrangement in Hebrew.

Tracked via https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601180-adobe-indesign-bugs/suggestions/49051367--id-4245219-disappearing-punctuation-marks-in-hebrSecond letter disappears after an opening letter: Under certain conditions, the second letter after the opening letter in a word vanishes. This issue affects the appearance and natural flow of the text.
With 19.0 release we had added the support of Harfbuzz shaper as a default for World-Ready Composer in InDesign. Post that few issues were reported related Hebrew Text.
Over the period of ID19.x releases we have fixed various issues related to Harfbuzz shaper that are listed below:
1. Incorrect text direction when mixed languages are used.
2. Punctuation marks are getting lost when exporting it to PDFs.
3. When we apply forced line breaks, the right-to-left text changes to left-lo-right.
4. Overlapping of right-to-left text we place any .psd file in the textframe.
5. Selection and cursor navigation issues when we try to edit tables in story editor.
6. Text overlapping upon creating outlines when it contains footnote reference.
From ID19.4 version onwards, we have also provided a preference within the application to allow users to switch to legacy shaping engine for World-Ready Composer in case users are facing issues specific to Harfbuzz shaper, so that the behaviour becomes similar to what happens for ID18.x versions.
The new option is present in InDesign's preferences under:
Preferences > Advanced Type > 'Enable Legacy Text Shaping for Adobe World-Ready Composer'
If you still continue to face any issue with ID20.0 version - even after trying the preference to switch to legacy shaper, we request you to create a separate Uservoice thread for each issue so that they can be tracked and prioritised appropriately.

The current situation with InDesign's buggy shaping engine is unacceptable and poses significant risks:
1. Lack of indicators: There are no clear signs when the buggy shaping engine is active.
2. Hidden issues: It's impossible to detect these bugs within InDesign itself.
3. Preference reset risks: If preferences are reset and the engine isn't changed back, it could lead to serious errors.
4. Financial implications: Will Adobe compensate clients for missing characters in printed materials? A colleague had to reprint 2,000 copies of a cover due to this bug, incurring substantial costs.
5. Loss of reliability: InDesign's motto used to be "What you see is what you get." Now, it's more accurate to say, "What you see is maybe what you get."
This situation undermines InDesign's reliability and could have severe consequences for professionals who depend on its accuracy.

Your response is just rude.
People in Israel printed books and magazines at cumulative costs of tens of thousands of dollars, maybe even hundreds of thousands, which went to the trash because of your bugs.
So what do you suggest? For the user to define a certain setting and then it will not appear to him.
And what will happen if the settings are reset without the user noticing? Will he once again send to print problematic PDF files that are missing punctuation marks or letters?
If you don't want to address the problem, at least set this option of lagacy type shaping as the default, and those who are suckers and want to use the new engine will do it themselves, why do we have to suffer because of this engine? -

I have tried to use the 2024 version and it almost destroyed a project of 3,000 pages! It took me months to correct all the damage that this version caused. I got back to the 18.5 version for the rest of my many many projects. I urge you please get the new version of 2025 spotless for the ME users.
