Red stripes in InDesign document
Why do I get red stripes in the indesign document when I have more than two files open?
We're happy to announce that the fix for this issue is now available in the latest update of InDesign - version 17.2 that is available from Creative Cloud Desktop application.
Please update to this latest InDesign version to get the fix.

Hi, I clicked off Animated Zoom in preferences under GPU and it seems to have fixed the issue. I do think it was something in the latest update though that made the red boxes start appearing. Hope that helps!

I'm having exactly the same issues with InDesign 16.2.1, on Mac OS Catalina 10.15.7. It doesn't happen all the time. Resizing text boxes with anchor points is impossible.

Do you have an External Monitor connected? Are you working on two monitors?
What is the Mac machine you are working on?
Is your Application Frame (under Window menu) ON or OFF?
Are you moving a document from one monitor to the other? -

When opening a second ID file the second file shows up with bright red artifact bars and then proceeds to completely lock-up when attempting to scroll or use any part of the document. If I close the second document the artifacts clear and I am able to work in ID. This is not specific to any one file - happens to any and all ID files ever since I updated to ID 16.2.1
I am running OS 10.14.6 Mojave and the most recent update ID 16.2.1 -

If you turn 'Preview on CPU" on they go away. From the 'view' drop down.

InDesign 16.2.1 - Big Sur 11.4
If I have two .indd files open together, the selection area for panels shifts (so I have to click above the panel to select it, or click drag way above text to highlight it), horizontal red bars appear within the artboards and both files are generally unworkable. Both files need to be closed and only one reopened to continue working efficiently -

I have this same red bar issue, mainly when opening multiple files. Resizing window fixes it, will try turning off the GPU for now. InDesign is up to date (16.2.1), and I am on the latest version of Big Sur (11.4). This only started when I updated to Big Sur about 2 weeks ago. I don't use a second screen, using a 2017 iMac Pro 3.2Ghz 8-Core Intel Xeon W, 64Gb 2666 MHz DDR4.

Another vote yes! Has happened previously in both Illustrator and InDesign in older versions when opening the first file. Red around the edges and you must resize the window to fix. Don't think it is MACOS dependent as it happened to me under High Sierra and Mojave. Currently on Big Sur and it is still rooted. Please fix this Addobe!

When additional .indd docs are opened, the previous documents have a red band at the top and the cursor positioning calibration gets thrown off after switching between docs. Files need to be closed and reopened.

Same issues as stated. Red box around application frame edges, distorted content view when scrolling, can't transform anything. Macbook Pro running Big Sur.

Same red bar issue. iOS is up to date, as well as all Creative Cloud. I DO have a second monitor, yet this proboblem just started within the last 7-10 days. Second monitor has been in use for the past 8 months.

Red bar appears in the first document when I open a second. Does not allow editing of either document.
On a MacBookPro with big sur.

I started having this ID issue a few days ago. ID and OS is current. Working off an iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015), 3.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5.
Same issues everyone else has—red bar interrupts cursor function (it actually makes the cursor work about a 1/2" off where I click). Slightly adjusting page takes it away but it comes back usually in minutes.
I have implimented the Application Frame fix and so far has not reappeared.
Thanks.

"""Thanks for reporting the issue. We are reviewing it.
In the meanwhile, here is a workaround that might help to overcome this issue: Turn ON Application Frame (Window > Application Frame).

This does not help. Free Flow or Application Frame, the red bars appearing. The right solution is turn off GPU acceleration. At least for me on my expensive Mac Pro. please see here:
Operating System – now Mac Os 11.4,
(MacPro Vega Pro II Duo.
3,3 GHz 12-Core Intel Xeon W
48 GB 2933 MHz DDR4
1TB SSD)
Are you using any eGPU and external monitor? NO eGPU, 1xMPX Apple Vega Pro II Duo - YES, external Monitor Displayport (otherwise i can see anything on a MacPro2019)
Does turning on Appliation Frame (Window > Appliation Frame) helps resolving the issue? – i'm working in Application Frame mode – disabling Application Frame however helps to remove the red bars temp. BUT, as soon as I "tab" all open indesign windows/dokuments in one window and switch through them red bars appear again.
What all applications are running in the background? – Photoshop, Illustartor, zoom, Spark, Finder, Safari.
Does turning off GPU performance as suggested by Bob helped resolving the issue? – yes, as soon as i click gpu off.
