QR-Code Generator Problems with Umlauts in vCards
In the actual version of indesign (16.0) there is still an issue with internal generated vCard-QR-Code scanned by an iphone.
In germany there are special Characters called "Umlaute" (ü, ö, ä) or the "sharp s" (ß). If these characters are used in an vCard generated within the buildin function from indesign, they are replaced with other symbols on the iPhone QR-Code-Camera Reader.
I think this is only a Problem of the used vCard-Version. I think indesign uses Version 2.1 if you would just use Version 3.0 this issue does not appear.
please see attached one example
Kind regards from germany
Max

Thanks for reporting. We will review the issue shortly

Hello, it is important also for the French users with all the é, ç, è ... when you import the card on an iPhone strange Characters appears instead of é (like √©).
Do you know how to resolve the problem ? Do you consider updating the Indesign vCard QR code 2.1 ? -

In version 18.0, we still have the same problem in the Brazilian Portuguese language, where the "ô" identifiers cannot be identified either by the iPhone.

When generating a QR code (Vcard), umlauts such as Ä or Ö are not displayed correctly on iPhones. Also it would be great if we could edit the raster size of qr codes, so you could make smaller qr codes. The protective border around the QR code would also be great if it didn't come automatically by default, because I want to transform exactly the size of the QR code and not including the border.

I still find it strong, that in 2022, character encoding is still a problem. There are many languages with accents.
I make hundreds of business cards a year, I have just integrated the QR code and it looks completely digital, it's a shame to be blocked by a "small detail" of encoding

2022 : Professional Software requires professional features and options. QR-Codes-management (formats-selection, accentuated characters handling, etc..) should be available. Bugfree for deployment. :)
It’s a critical issue for all content creators / agencies.
What can we do to help ADOBE fix it asap ?

France, many names and (most) addresses have accented characters.
It's an insult to not spell a person's name correctly.

Hello, I discover this issue today (May 5th, 2022) working on QR code VCards I'm currently working on using latest version of Indesign available (V17.2.1). I read amaarora saying this issue will be reviewed by InDesign Team shortly after November 4th, 2020 (more than one year and a half). AMAARORA Do you have any news today?

When will this issue be resolved?
Polish chars ie., ą, ę, ł., ó. -

The same problem with polish letters: ĄąĆćĘꣳŃńÓ󌜯żŹź (only 18 characters). Iphone don't recognise them.
Maybe you should open a Support Ticket at Apple? -

I found a workaround to this, using data merge.
When you create the source data for data merge like in https://www.tech4pub.com/2015/02/03/indesign-cc-tip-adding-qr-codes-with-data-merge/, you can specify vcard version 3.0 instead of 2.1 and then the issues goes away. Terribly annoying if you only need to make one or a couple of codes, but it works.I used the concatenation function in excel to generate the vcard data from existing cells of data. Also terribly annoying.
This function from adobe "works" but is not really usable. Really makes you wonder what they do with our money.
