InDesign 16.0 saves Converted files in last used folder, not containing folder
On Catalina OSX (10.15.7), InDesign 2021 (16.0) saves a Converted file to the last used Finder folder, rather than the folder the document is contained in.
Happens with 'Save As...', as well as saving InCopy assignments.
The fix for this issue is now available in the latest update of InDesign – version 16.0.1.
Please update to this version to get the fix.

2021 update. When saving (and thus replacing) it is not going back to the original folder. It goes to the last folder used, so all of my files are getting messed up.

any idea how long this fix will take?
It happens with both 'save' and 'save as' functions.
Hugely frustrating and time-consuming. -

With all the desire for progress and upgrades. It seems to the moments that on every step forward. We also go one back ....
Please check the glitch below. Very significant for work in large offices. Not everything needs to change ... there are things we designers have known for years. And they are great. There is no touch and change. And if an upgrade then that will be effective. Thanks -

Me too, same annoying problem with files getting saved in the last-used folder. This was a problem way back in earlier versions of Indesign that got fixed at one point. Seems like that fix got dropped in this newest version (maybe a chunk of code that was accidentally deleted?). Should be a priority for Adobe to fix ASAP.

Since I've updated to InDesign 2021, when I try to save a file that was made with 2020 and now it prompts me to save it as 2021... instead of picking the folder in which the file is actually located, as it normally does, InDesign picks the last folder in which I have saved something (even if that that was for example the day before and in the meantime I've closed the software too).
That ends up with saving files in wrong folder, and creating duplicates of the file, one being the old one in the right folder and then the newer one somewhere else... because one normally does not check the folder in which one is saving, being used by the fact that it's the one where the file is.
I haven't tested if that applies also to "Save as" or if it's just a problem of when one has a 2020 file and clicks save (Cmd + S) and one is prompted to save in the 2021 version.

This is just crazy!!! I lost all my afternoon, because I thought I was making mistakes.
This release is really catastrophic, as the programme no longer starts after two or three launches in the same session.
