Mouse-click in menus becomes disabled
InDesign 12.1.0.56; macOS Sierra 10.12.5; Magic Mouse
The issue varies with any file. I have mostly seen this occur when in the Find/Change window, or when I try and select a font. My mouse will not be able to click (select) anything in the drop down menus. I am able to select with my keyboard by using the arrows and "return" key. To get the mouse to click (select) an option from a drop down menu, I must first restart InDesign and then open the same file.
Based on the recent comments from users saying that they are no longer encountering this issue after the release of 14.0.1, we are marking this as Fixed.

I am having the same issue. No dropdown menus allow you to make selections with mouse. I must hover over the selection I want with the mouse, then hit the Enter key to actually make the selection. This has been on going since upgrading to INDD 2018.

When selecting something from a dropdown, I now have to hover over it with my mouse and hit enter with my keyboard, or else use the arrow keys to find it and then hit 'enter.
For example: selecting a new font, I can't just click on the font that I want in the dropdown. If I do, it closes the dropdown without changing my font. But if I hover over the font that I want and hit 'enter', or use the arrow keys to go down to my font and click 'enter', this works.
Same with any preferences.
Seems like a small issue, but I often forget about this and spend time scrolling through my fonts to find the font I want, only to not have it work, and then have to re-do the step. This is definitely a new bug that I've only experienced with CC INDD.

I'd held off updating my Mac for 3 years, sticking with Mavericks because it worked (my colleague had nothing but issues with Sierra). But I decided to start the new year with new software and get myself up to date.
Massive fail.
And now when I try to export a print brochure from InDesign to PDF I can't select any of the presets. Brilliant new feature!
Please fix this Adobe. It's a pretty fundamental piece of many creative's daily operations.
Thanks.

Cannot change styles – drop down menu works, but new selections cannot be made no matter how many times I try to select them. For example, in Bullets and Numbering, I cannot change "Start at 1" to "Continue with previous number". This happens with other drop downs as well. In PDF, I cannot select single page of anything else. It is not stuck at Two Up (Cover page).

Hi Wiebe,
Can you please let me know the detailed steps through which you faced the scenario. That will be very helpful.
Thanks,

I have this same problem. After updating to CC 2018, the export presets show up in the dropdown list but I can't select them. From the comments here, I learned a work-around, which is to use the up and down arrows and then "return" to select. It is not just the "Adobe PDF Preset" list but also other options on that menu, such as Viewing-> Layout (I could only select Two-Up Continuous by using the up and down arrows with the return key--otherwise it stays stuck on the last selection used). This certainly seems like a bug and I would never have discovered the work-around without this forum. (iMac, late 2013, MacOS 10.12.6.)

I'm having the same issue with the latest version of InDesign. It only happens in InDesign. I can highlight an option, but when I click the mouse, the window closes, like it worked, but the option was never changed, i.e. font. I can hit the space button when I have the option I want selected and that works, but I have to quit out of InDesign and start it back up to get the mouse button selection to work again, some times multiple times an hour.

Dropdown Menu doesn't work when clicking on an option. It works only with the arrows up and down. I have Adobe InDesign CC 2018, the latest update.
It is very irritating, please fix this.

I'm also having this issue. It's only in some files, while other files work fine. I can't change master pages, change PDF settings, even change the printer I'm printing too. This has been frustrating to say the least and had and made it difficult/impossible to finish out a few larger projects I need to finish up.

I am also having this issue. It's very frustrating when I'm trying to make a PDF for a client and I can't change the PDF preset from the drop down menu.

Importing Multipage PDF:
"Crop to: Crop" option doesn't work. Settings does not change from Bounding Box. Well, actually non of the options are available in new CC-2018 version.

When I go to select how I want to output PDFs, I can click on any of the choices and none of them will respond. I can only output as high quality. Other dialog boxes respond the same way where I can't make selections from dropdown menus.

Same here too.

When in an existing document, you want to change a color mode from lets say rgb, to cmyk, it won't. It's not grayed out. When you restart indesign, the problem seems to be fixed, but restarting the next day, the same issue occurs.

I'm my case it's on files from before the CC 2018 update on InDesign on my Mac. It only happens in this application. However, my colleague can amend the PDF setting on his PC and is also running CC 2018 so could this be relating to mac only?

10.12.6 Sierra
Dropdown menus will not allow new selection (for example, when selecting resolution for PDF output, selecting a new font in style sheets, selecting font size in style sheets, etc) ; they are "stuck" on previous selection. This is a frequent recurring issue. -

Hi,
We have tried to reproduce it but unable to do it.
Can you please provide the following pieces of informaion :
1. Is this happening even after cleaning your InDesign cache and preferences? (refer - forums.adobe.com/thread/52699)
2. Is the issue specific to the document? Or does it occur with all documents? Thanks

Same here, exporting pdf can't change for example colour profile or exporting jpg/png can't change image quality... Have to restart computer every time I need to export something.

On my Mac (Mac OS 10.12.2 - 12GB RAM) when clicking on a text box OR having the cursor in the text box, the Auto-Size Feature in "Text Frame options" does not work. The drop down menu for the auto size options are there, but when you select one of them the option remains as "off". I managed to get the feature working once after quitting the application and restarting but was unable to use the feature once I chose any other text object.
