Cannot apply Paragraph/Character Styles
Indesign 19.5 and 20.0.1
Steps to resolve:
Reinstalling latest Indesign (20.0.1), restarting my iMac, reverted to a previous version of ID (19.5), copied the file to my desktop to open from there, started a fresh document and tried to create new Styles (doesn't let me), opened another document which has styles that worked (they also don't work any more), deleted preferences, and finally I have updated my iMac and that hasn't fixed it either.Expected result:
Font Styles panel should work as it should be (and as it did 3 days ago) in that you click on a Style and…2 votes -
Overrides are not preserved when importing and overwriting object style
version 19.3.0.58
But it happens in everything after CC2018When I update object styles on import or book sync, size and position options do not retain overrides. What is currently known is Width, Height, X, Y in Size and Position Options.
Reproduction steps
- Create a document
- Create object style
- Set Width, Height, X, Y of Size and Position Options as desired.
- Save document
- Open the document that duplicated 4.
- Create an object and apply the object style from 2.
- Change to any position and size (override)
- Import and update the object style in 2. from the document in 1.
- The…

Paragraph style not applying when selecting the wanted style
Indesign version 20.0.1
When highlighting the desired text that I wish to apply the paragraph style to and clicking on the preferred paragraph style. The click animation attempts to very briefly 'grab' the style rather than select it. This works on any paragraph style I try.
I have a similar issue when selecting a colour swatch to apply, the only option is to grab and drag the desired swatch to where it is needed.
I also cannot change the font when selecting the text I wish to change and selecting a font from the drop down.
This is only a…

map Word lists to InDesign lists and paragraph styles
As the InDesign help documentation notes (https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/map-export-manage-styles.html), "Text styles with bullet or number lists may not be copied or exported to a different application with the bullets or numbers intact." The suggested workflow is extremely time-consuming for a long document where every paragraph is assigned to a hierarchical outline structure in Word, since each paragraph has to be manually assigned to the correct paragraph style and the Word outline numbering that was converted to text needs to be manually deleted. In addition, when placing the document, it creates a separate new "imported list" style from each Word list,…

Styles
To me it seems it would be logical to be able to apply a style across an entire piece of work in on action. Currently, if I set up a document and set the style from the jump and do not need to change it or anything it is fine. I had a situation where a publisher did not like some of the typesetting in the work and kicked it back. This was a 291 page document with 2-4 text boxes per page using multiple styles. I had to touch every box of text to update everything. Seems as if…

Arrowheads can not scale
When you have a .5 line you are unable to scale the arrowhead.
I do a lot of call outs for instructional work and I would love to be able to make the arrowheads smaller.

InDesign 2025 changes frame size while applying object style
If you apply an object style with only height set in size/position tab, and inset spacing, the width of the frame changes adding the inset spacing to the width. For example: 100mm width frame (no style applied) and an object style with height set to 25mm and 5mm of inset spacing in both sides (left/right). The frame with applied style will result in 110mm width.

GREP styles do not work in text variables
The title should say it all. When setting a text variable in a paragraph style that includes GREP styles, the GREP styles are not applied to the text variable. This is a severe limitation of the variable functionality, and is similar to many other reported bugs concerning variables, the upshot of which is that variables need to behave more like ordinary text. This is one more instance in which this is true.

Bug: mixed open type numbers
If a text is set in a paragraph format using medieval numbers and using character format with versal number for footnotes, sets the number with two digits wrong: the first will be versal, the second medieval (see image).

Character style based running header text variable does not pick up character styles applied by nested line styles
As with Grep styles the text variable character style is not found when it is created using Nested Line Styles. This means I have to use normal nested styles and add end nested style markers into the text. Not ideal or as fully automatic as I would like.

Character style based running header text variable does not pick up character styles applied by GREP
Problem described in more detail here:

Fixing that bug would make the feature actually useful.3 votes -
Ordinals do not work
The OpenType function „ordinals“ does not function correctly.
When I type English ordinal numbers (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and so on), the option „ordinals“ should move the text characters to the top. When the number is at the beginning of a line, it works. But if there’s another word before the number, it puts only the first character to the top and leaves the second on line. I tried with different fonts, and only with one of the fonts it works as expected. What’s wrong???1 vote -

Montserrat typeface's; semi bold, bold, extra bold & black has issues displaying in Id
Version 2024 19.0
When I change the font to Monserrat with one of the mentioned styles most of the glyphs are wrongly presented for example if i choose bold most of the letters seem to be light rather than bold, with a few like 'o' and 'E' displaying as the right style, when they should all be displayed as bold.

hyperlink removes style
This is ID 19.4.
Hello– I have a character style applied to some (but not all) of the text in a TOC (see Attachment 1). As a test, we'll consider the word BELFAST, which has this specific style applied to it: font Roboto Bold, size 10, leading 12, All Caps, PMS 5275 CMYK.
However, when I use the 'Add Hyperlink' function to the entire text block (from BELFAST to the page #), the previously described style I have applied onto BELFAST is removed (see second attachment).
The particular TOC I'm showing you is short so no biggie, but I have…

footnote reference formatting is wrong
The new version 19 and 19.0.1 shows footnote reference numbers incorrectly When paragraph justification is set to Adobe World-Ready Paragraph Composer. It must be set to the basic Adobe Paragraph Composer to work.
The problem is the final digit (if the reference is greater than 9) does not apply the character style formatting defined in the Footnote Options setup, so the last digit is shown as normal.
The same issue happens on running head page numbers with a style applied, but only on the right hand page. It also happens on cross-reference numbers. A workaround is to place a character…

Can't add paragraph- or charactar styles to CC library
Whenever i add a pargraph- or character styles to a CC library it simply wont add it. It says that the character - or paragraph style is not supported in Indesign. This happens with new and old libraries, character- and paragraph styles just dissapeared in older libraries. This makes the libraries unworkable.
Adobe indesign 18.5
To reproduce:
- add a character - or paragraph style to the library
- watch it disappear from the libraryexpected result:
- the character- or paragraph is added to the library, so it can happily be used for the book and all it's chapters…1 vote -
