Multiple Nested Styles
Expand the nested paragraph styles to include multiple 'Next' options in one Paragraph Style. This would simplify template setups that repeat the same few Paragraph Styles throughout many pages in various combinations. Currently I create numbered copies of the Paragraph Styles to account for all the variations. It would be nice to see one Paragraph Style for each page that contained the all the Next styles rather than having dozens of repeated styles to manage.

Ability to Start a new section through a paragraph style
Is it possible to add the ability to start a new section to a paragraph style so that when adding or removing text the beginning of the section is shifted to the desired page?

addition of style override menu option
Please provide a menu option to override a style. Going to and from the associated style menu is time consuming and and would be easier if I could at least use keyboard navigation to access a menu option under the type, object or table menu headings to activate it.

underline outdent/indents
The border and rules have options to outdent or indent, but the underline style does not. Sometimes you need a character style to highlight a word, and the only way to do that is with the underline style. It doesn't look great when there is no space on either side of the highlight, so you need to add extra spaces before and after the word. Can this be added to the underline style options?
Maybe it should be a new feature called ”highlight.” It would work like Microsoft Word but with options.

color limitation in underline text
When I want to have a color in the background of a text (but not the whole block, only the text), I use character style, underline option with strength and negative offset. For the color I can only choose a few others are not available. It would be nice to be able to choose any color. Any example can be found in the attached file. There I would want to have the yellow color in the dark blue color of the logo.

Style mapping.
It would be great to be able to see a tree of styles to easily see which ones are based on which without having to open each style. Picking up a file from a messy designer and tidying up the styles can take hours without this feature.

Improve Title Case
When sentence case is added to the paragraph styles panel, please add a place where we can list a set of words to be omitted if they appear after the first word. For example: and, the, a, an.

Video - Object Style
Today I cannot add an object style to a video. I'm using object style to easy redefine layout. If I create a content holder I can define its size and location with object style. Once I add a video into the content holder, the object styles in the object style pane are disabled/grey.

Default frame size
I'd like a preference setting to preset the frame width for when you paste text into InDesign.
By default, the text frames are 52,917 mm wide (which is 150 pt, but some of us work with mm); I'd like to set the default to a different value, say 100 mm.3 votes -
Column Guides and Text Wrapping
Can Ignore Text Wrap be an option in the properties for Column Rules? As an instructional designer in a team, we often have screenshots of the UI, with a text wrap of Jump, at the top of the left column in a two column layout. Currently, that forces the column rule to begin below the image, see screenshot.

Ability to create and edit Object styles in the Properties panel
Trying to lessen dependence on existing panels in an attempt to speed up workflow. So if I could create and edit full Object styles by accessing that option—similar to Para and Character styles on Properties panel, that would be great. I know the Properties panel is a work in progress, so hoping this may appear sometime in the not-to-distant future

Problem with Paragraph Borders across the page (with same paragraph style)
In the "Paragraph Borders" we need an option that allows you to determine whether or not to leave the "paragraph border" at the bottom of the page. When using the same paragraph style (to simulate a table) often the client requires that the border at the bottom (or top) of the page are not visible, to indicate continuity (as happens now in the case in which the same paragraph is divided between the two pages).
Operating system: "catalina 10.15.1".

External Styles / Style Libraries to push Style updates dynamically and automatically to all documents.
Please develop some kind of External Style file format, that can be applied locally, and hopefully, via the cloud. But at least locally, PLEASE.
It is a crime that InDesign currently has NO WAY whatsoever to keep multiple documents styles synced. I run into this deeply frustrating problem all the time.
Currently, If I create a template file with some styles, and use that to create documents, and then If I update or refine paragraph styles, character styles, table styles, etc — there is no way for me to easily carry over those same styles to all other documents that…

Object Styles: text frame color fill and stroke options
The current problem is that applying an object style with a stroke applies to everything within a group (photo B in screenshot). I want to be able to create a style that applies a stroke to the image but not the caption text box (photo a in screenshot).
One solution might be: Text frame options within object styles having their own stroke and fill options.

Select multiple, discontinuous paragraphs
When applying paragraph styles throughout a document, it is only possible to select multiple continuous paragraphs in one go. If I want to style all first level headings, for example, I have to click on each, apply the paragraph style and repeat and repeat and repeat... Often finding the appropriate style requires scrolling in the paragraph styles window. It would be very useful, and much quicker, to be able to select all headings and apply Head A (or whatever) in one click. This might be achieved by clicking in the paragraphs with a keyboard combination pressed or, as was done…

Ability to scroll/move on page while style options window is open
In earlier versions of InDesign this was possible. Now I can only zoom in and out. While editing my styles I want to be able to still zoom AND scroll/move on the pages in order to see the changes where the take effect.

Allow variables to be used within styles
It would be great to have a more flexible method of configuring styles; the purpose being to cut down on the number of styles with only minor differences between them.
We use page templates where the layout is pretty much the same, apart from minor differences / colours. But we have to define a complete set of styles for all colour variations, greatly increasing the complexity.
However, if you can enable any setting to be stored as a variable, this could reduce the number of styles in a document by 90%. For example:
A set of master styles for the…

Creation of Table of Contents — Adjustable size of the interface window (width and height)
Creation of Table of Contents — Adjustable interface window (width and height)
When working in huge and very complex documents — with dozens and dozens of paragraph styles and very complex table of contents —, the limitations of the interface window are rather annoying. The window cannot namely be expanded to have a better view of the selected styles.
The number of visible styles is namely limited to four (see screenshot). And the width cannot be adjusted either.
It would thus be a considerable improvement if the window size could be customized in order to have a much better view…
