  2. Integrated controls for styles

I think it would be more intuitive to integrate styles in with the manual controls they go with, especially for character and paragraph styles, like so:
-slide the panel left to see the current settings and make manual changes, slide the panel right to switch to a new style.
-When you look at the manual controls, every element has an icon to show that it is matching a style, and another icon shows if an override is applied.
-click an override icon to remove that specific override

  3. Ability to set default font (style/size) in Forms

When I use the interactive feature for forms, the default font is always Minion Pro. I would like to be able to change this for any text box I make, rather than having to do it text-box by text box. I understand that if the user does not have the font on their computer, this would be replaced with one they do have.

  4. Spec Sheet for Paragraph Styles

I recently came across the need to print out a spec sheet of paragraph style settings from INDD. We're working with an outside vendor who is programming a proposal builder platform for our business development team. Basically, my design team created branded layout templates in INDD. We gave the vendor our native files, but their programmers need a written spec sheet of all the paragraph style attributes. From the paragraph style palette, when you go into each style, you can see the style settings, but you can't copy that text, nor export the settings as a spec sheet. I doubt…

  5. [ID-4262126] Negative value for object style position

When placing a frame in the bleed area (-3mm), inDesign won't allow me to set the position of an image frame to -3mm, it has to be a positive value. Meaning I have to position image frames on the left-hand page manually, rendering the feature useless on the left hand page of each spread... If you can set the value to a negative amount in the regular coordinates palette why wouldn't this be mirrored in the styles?

  6. Shorthand Styles Panel

If someone doesn’t want to have to type the words 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑘 𝑦𝑜𝑢 over and over, they simply click 𝐄𝐝𝐢𝐭 > 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 > 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭 > 𝐀𝐝𝐝:

    𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝: ty
    𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: thank you

That is the typical way users do it. If Adobe can make a new panel called 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐲𝐥𝐞𝐬 that would be helpful. It would function almost like 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐭𝐲𝐥𝐞𝐬 but be it’s own separate entity:
    1. Select the words 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑘 𝑦𝑜𝑢 with your 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐫 (or you can select as many words as you want)
    2. Click 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐲𝐥𝐞𝐬
    3. Then, click 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐬𝐭𝐲𝐥𝐞
    4. 𝐒𝐭𝐲𝐥𝐞 𝐍𝐚𝐦𝐞: Compliments

  7. Add Space Before on Column Top checkbox

Currently the ‘Space Before’ value is ignored when that paragraph appears on the top of any container—frame/column.

There are innumerable occasions when we need the above space settings to be honoured even when the paragraph appears on the top of the column. We InDesigners resort to various antics and workaround like keeping an ‘Invisible Rule Above’ or use a character style with extra leading etc..

It is very easily solved by a simple checkbox in the Indents and Spacing tab just below ‘Space Before’ selection which says ‘Add Space Before on column top’. If checked, the value will always be…

  8. Paragraph border and splitted columns

When working with the paragraph border option, its impossible to split the columns and make it look decent, without a huge workaround.

It would be great if the "split column" options could habe a checkbox like "do not split paragraph border" or so.

  10. Paragraph Style Option Dialogue Box - Bullets and Numbering

We had to change the font we're using for a checkbox in one of our paragraph styles. We have it set up under Paragraph Style Options / Bullets and Numbering. To add a character you want to use for a bullet character, you click add. There is no way to sort glyphs (by math symbols, greek, etc.) in the next window, and there are no scroll buttons. You have to grab the handle on the screen and scroll, and it jumps so fast, you can't navigate from one screen to the next. It just took me 20 minutes to find…

  11. Pencil tool to hold specific stroke and color

In previous versions of ID i've been able to select the pencil tool (with no document open) and set it to a specific stroke and color and every time I would then click on the pencil tool to draw, it would do so with those specifications. In the latest CC version, that feature seems to be gone and now I draw and THEN have to set a stroke and color, which really slows me down! Tell me I'm not crazy like the pompous people in the forum! :)

When I'm doing a layout and sending images out for color work,…

  12. The ability to make text invisible or 'replacing' it with '___' using the Character Style

I recently worked with a publication that needed to hide part of the text in different places. The full text also had to be shown next to it.
It would be possible to arrange this by means of GREP-styles, if it were possible to use some kind of pseudo font with zero character width or something like.
Also it would be useful having an opportunity visually replace any symbol with underline (such an idea is often using in a language textbooks) using character styles.

  13. Symbols panel / Quick apply formatting

Not sure if this suggestion lives under styles. What I'm thinking InDesign needs is a feature like Illustrators symbol library where we can take a group of pre styled objects and define them so that they can be easily dragged back on to the page rather than continually copying and pasting from other parts of a document on to then overtype or swap out images etc. as you build documents consisting of replicable structured content.

Functionality would need to be like Illustrator, a simple drag and drop interface on to a panel. So that any images, shapes, text frames, styles.…

  14. Center applied style in style panels

When I click on a paragraph or character with the text tool, InDesign’s style panel automatically jumps to and highlights the paragraph or character style, which is applied to the paragraph or character.
(From now on please read the word »style« as »paragraph or character style«.)

But sadly the applied style is always shown as the very last item or the very first in the visible list of style panel. There are styles above and styles below this style in the whole list. (See »Standard-behaviour.png«.)

It’s easy to access the items above (respectively below): I simply can click on them.…

  16. Differentiate Native Styles vs Styles that came in with copy/pasted text

I would like for there to be some type of differentiation between Styles in documents when copy/pasting or bringing in new styles. Old styles get mixed up with new ones, some have the same names (body copy for example) so it's hard to tell which ones are from pasted copy and which are the ones I'm currently using in my document.

Open to any format as long as the Styles from the original document are all in one grouping and any styles from Copy/Pasted text are in another distinct grouping. This could be done by folders, or color-coding, splitting the…

  17. Find Format within Styles Panel

I'm a book designer using many different styles, usually ported in with XML. It would be great to embed a pull-down option for right clicking on any style for some kind of "find next" feature, where you can quickly toggle to the next instance of each style without pulling open the Find/Change dialogue. This would help me to quickly set parameters for undefined styles that come in from my XML.

  18. Allow users to create a shortcut for a paragraph style including "apply next style"

You can add a shortcut to each paragraph style. If you apply it to several paragraphs they will all be in this style although you may have insert a "next style" to apply.
So it would be great to have the opportunity for 2 shortcuts:
    – the way it's used to be
    – for applying the style plus next style

  19. Utilize paragraph shading for text messages with improved functionality

The new paragraph shading feature would be fantastic to use for laying out text message conversations in books/long from documents, but needs a few tweaks to make is fully functional. Text messages in books is becoming very common and having them run in the text while paging is crucial.

It used to be that you had to create shapes and anchor each in for a text message. Now you can use Paragraph Shading defined in the style for left side texts with no adjustments, but because right side text messages need to have the "bubble" shape aligned right, but the…

  20. Please include "Convert Shape" in the Object Style Options

I'd like to quickly convert my rectangular photos into circular photos. On top of that, I want the circular photos to have a circular text wrap that works.

Currently the work-around is to change the Corner Options to create rounded corners big enough to become a circle shape, but then the text wrap (Wrap around Object Shape mode) is still wrapping around the 90 degree bounding box.
