I want to be able alter the standard prefs for effects
I am in CC2018 now and thought to change presets for once and for all; mainly because every time I want to give an object an outer glow I have to change the settings every time.
It seems impossible to change the random settings.

Easier way to restart endnote numbering
Thanks for the new endnotes feature. Arrived just in time, as i had to do a book with two extensive sets of notes and was dreading the thought of having to do one set manually.
But having to break the chapters into stories in order to restart numbering on the notes was rather a nuisance. I don't like having to break a book text into stories (creates too many opportunities for things to go wrong). How about creating a function that allows a number restart after a paragraph style? I would think that most users would want to restart each…

Swap graphics/images…
I know it exists as a script BUT i've been waiting a loooong time to get a very basic SWAP function between 2 inDesign frames'content.
Say I have 2 frames on a page, one contains image A, the other contains image B.
I select the 2 frames, in object menu, I have one option (usually grayed out if 0, 1, 3 or more objects are selected) (+ same in contextual right-click menu).
That option says "swap images" (in french "permuter les images").
Everything in one frame goes to the other.
That implies groups of items.
That implies taking care of…

Implement Chart- and Diagramfunction
Implement a Chart- and Diagramfunction based on a linked XLS.
Reason:
Technical Data for Products is often managed in XLS and Engineers create all kind of charts and diagramms directly in XLS.
Unfortunately it is not possible to import those XLS-charts in InDesign! There are serveral solutions possible, e.g. via PDF, but these are only "dirty-tricks" and they are all not sustainable at all. In the best case the charts and diagramms look ugly.
While it is possible to link/import XLS-Data, it should be possible to create charts and diagrams directly in InDesign, as Illustrator already does (similar, not nice…20 votes -
Implement Funktion "Start-Stop-Pinging"
While working in a LAN (2ms Ping) or WAN (20ms Ping) with linked content on exhouse Servers, InDesign is getting very very slow.
Reason is the permanent pinging to the linked files "R U still alive?" which the user cannot stop.It would save hours of time and tons of nerves each week, if user could easily switch-on and switch-off the ping manually - e.g. like the preflight. While saving, printing or exporting the file the ping should be activated automatically, to inform the user about any changes.

Consistent tool bars
Could you please place all the common tools in the same place in each program?
And when a number of degrees is typed for an object to rotate, could every program rotate the same direction please? E.g., Ill and INDD rotate clockwise while Pshop rotates counterclockwise. That makes no sense. Thanks

Auto shifting groups
I often do a catalog that includes hundreds of items arranged in alpha order; each of which includes an image and two text boxes. Of course, at the last minute the client will add a few more and every every item/group must be moved further along to accommodate them. Let's say I add three new ones beginning with the letter A; Now all the groups must be moved three places further along, line by line page by page.. very tedious and time consuming. But what if there were a way that they could all be set to shift automatically the…

Now that we have Borders and Shading, can we have the ability to have transparencies on these? Please?

Hiding objects then showing them again keeps them highlighted like in Illustrator
I suggested this years ago but I think it would be useful to be able to select objects and hide them then by showing them again for them to stay highlighted. This is how the feature works in Illustrator and I use it all the time. It would be really good if it worked the same way in Illustrator.

Pattern support
I am surprised pattern support has not arrived for InDesign yet. I would like to be able to pick a repeating pattern or drop a png of a pattern in and select to repeat it vertically and/or horizontally within a frame.

Repeat Grid
I'd love to see the Adobe XD Repeat Grid function redeveloped into InDesign. This would be invaluable to many publication designers that have repetitive layouts. Master Pages are great, but I think if it incorporated the repeat grid, it would increase workflow efficiency.

Adjust Frame Edges From Anypoint ...Not Just Middle of The Edge
I'd like to be able to adjust frame edges from any point on the edge. This would work much like the slice select tool in Photoshop.
Specifically, this would be useful to edit frames where you're zoomed in and the middle of the edge isn't near the content you're trying to crop with the frame.

Please allow placed PSD layer blend modes to carry over into InDesign
We build 2-layer Photoshop files for product images. Top layer is product image set to NORMAL blend mode. Bottom layer is shadow of product set to MULTIPLY blend mode. When placed in InDesign the shadow layer does not carry over multiply blending. It knocks out anything under it in InDesign file. Our work around is placing two copies of the PSD file on top of each other. We then have to set the bottom image to Multiply with top layer turned off in Object Layer Options. Then the top image needs to have shadow layer turned off in Object Layer…

Break Footnotes Marker
If long footnotes breaks on two pages autoinsert some symbol on end of first part and some symbol on the beginning of the second part. Would also be nice to have the possibility to choose a glyph for these markers.

Show at least some info about an object when cursor hovers over it
I used to use a plug-in that showed me info about any object on the page if I clicked it. That plugin hasn't worked for me in years, so I'm stuck opening and closing the Links panel all the time. I'd like ID to show me some info about objects just by hovering over them (like it instantly shows the grabber when you mouse over an image). Doesn't have to be everything that's shown in the link info. Could just be simple stuff, like dimensions, actual and effective resolution, file name. Or the user could choose from the same choices…

Image frames grow in height or width
Similar to the options that we have for text boxes, Autosize to height, width, both etc, could we do the same for images and then use the fit to frame options to control how the text boxes grow.
i.e you import and landscape image into a image holder, it is set to fit to height, but then the width grows or shrinks accordingly to fit the image. this can then effect text wrap.

Max size in Text Frame options.
Why is there a minimum size for text frames, but not a maximum size. We use Auto-size combined with text-wrap a lot with liquid layout templates to allow text to adapt to it's new sizes/dimensions. Occasionally it would be great if we could build a maximum size that the text box can grow too instead of giving it the minimum size.

Add/Improve more features of Liquid Layout
Liquid layout has been around for ages, but there are no new developments. It would be good if you could link two elements together. i.e. a text box with an image box so that as artworks grow or shrink, the relationship between the two elements work in conjunction with each other, I know Chilli have taken the liquid layout concept and enhanced it on their web2print platform.

Inline graphic text wrap
I'm a long time InDesign user but am baffled by the inline graphic options currently offered. That ID ignores text wrap settings of the pasted graphic is counter-intuitive, the need to place a paragraph causes unwanted spaces between paragraphs (should the graphic not extend to the full width of the text block), and the visual "anchor object" and "anchor position" options has the graphic jump all over the place without reflecting the usual anchor point behavior I expect. Thank you.

Add an option to rasterize chosen graphic objects on export (especially vectors)
Often we have to work with vectors, and often they take up a lot of space, which leads to the growth of the final PDF document and the slow rendering of the document in browsers. The trick with reducing transparency, when we make the selected frames 99% opaque and turn on the flattener, does not always give a good quality result and can cause stitching.
I suggest adding the option "rasterize" to the settings of the style of the graphic frame, so during the export the vector object is replaced with a raster copy. The quality settings for rasterization can…44 votes
