Include bit depth (8/16/32 bits per channel) as an item to be included in the Links panel (or at least in the Info panel).
I know that bit depth is included in XMP File Info but as this panel is modal (and overly high) it is tedious to fetch this information from there. It would be convenient to have both in Links and Info panels. Possibly these panels could be updated with other useful data, too,. This is useful as HDR is becoming increasingly popular, and while PDFs can include 32-bit images, I'd imagine they are problematic in press.

Direct Editing of Photoshop Layers in InDesign
Description:
Currently, users must switch back to Photoshop to edit layer details, masks, or effects before re-importing images into InDesign. This process can be time-consuming and interrupts the creative flow. It would be highly efficient to enable direct editing of Photoshop layers—such as brush adjustments, opacity, blend modes, and layer masks—within InDesign itself, without needing to reopen Photoshop.Benefits for Users:
Streamlines the workflow by reducing the need to switch between Photoshop and InDesign
Speeds up the design process, as minor adjustments could be made directly in InDesign
Allows more flexibility in applying last-minute edits and achieving the desired look…4 votes -

Place Images Behind Text Without Outlines
Description:
In Adobe InDesign, there is currently no option to place images behind text without converting the text to outlines or paths. In Photoshop, this is easily achieved using layer masks and clipping masks. It would be highly beneficial to have a similar feature in InDesign, allowing users to place images directly behind text that can still be edited (font, size, and content) without converting it to outlines.Benefits for Users:
Increased flexibility and efficiency when working with text and images
Ability to maintain the editability of the text (users can continue to adjust font, size, and wording)

Preference to Disable the Contextual Menues (annoying pop ups), legg issue
- Preference to DISABLE the Contextual Menues! Pros don’t need spam like tutorials poppig up while working, it’s annoying and awful disturb the concentration while the work, disturb also the speed of the program. Please.
- Option (On-Off) to disable Ai function, which is probably a big part of the reason for the program leggs. There are still a lot of people which don’t need it and don’t want to get it like spam.
- InDesign never legged so hard as do it now. Please fix it.

Useful feature request: Edit with... Photoshop/Illustrator with an Indesign Spread/Page overlay
I would like to see an option to Edit with Photoshop or Illustrator with an Overlay, optionally at an opacity, of rest of the Indesign page/spread elements. This would aid in area retouching/color adjustments where you need to know exactly where the items are on the page in relation to the image/vector.
Often I have to darken areas in an image behind type in Indesign and using a brush is often guess work. I have tried drop shadows and glows in the past with mixed results but usually to get specific letters to show over an image I have to…

Miro/Keynote-style simplified pen tool and magnetising arrows for diagrams.
Often I have to make flow charts and diagrams for our projects, and the power of the hyper-manual pen tool and frames tends to show down the design process when compared to similar processes in Miro or Keynote. If there was a way to make a simple curved line and magnetise it to a text box that would make pushing around content 1000% faster.

Auto size headshots in frames based on a "key object" frame
Similar to how Photoshop has facial recognition, a lot of the time in my job I have to place many headshots in a grid of frames, etc. and they're not all the same resolution, crop or size. It would be awesome to have a feature that lets you select all of the frames with face photos, then click one of the frames like setting the "key object" and then InDesign will size the headshot images within the rest of the frames to match the cropping of the "key object" so everything looks consistent.

Custom organization of links panel
Options within Links Panel to sort links not by name/page/location folder, but into custom folders or priority. Allow users to place links at the top that are changed or edited more frequently. Current issue is job requires me to change multiple logo files spread throughout document quickly. If multiple instances are grouped, sorting by layer does not work and layer will also sort by layer name and not top layer. Letting users set priority status to links or create & name custom folders within the links panel can help find things quickly.

Global Edit
It would be extremely helpful to have a global edit feature like Illustrator. For example, I created a 2 layer text "graphic" to use as an indicator multiple times across a 12 page document. Once it printed, I realized the opacity was too high so it wasn't legible. Now I have to go and edit each individual instance of the exact same item or edit, and paste/duplicate it all over again. If Global Edit was a feature, I could select the object, select Global Edit, and make changes 1 time applying it to ever other instance automatically.

Stop snapping to pixel or give us option to disable
Give us the option to not snap to pixel when the ruler is set to measure in pixels.
Fine to snap to pixels when drawing boxes and lines. But completely useless for text and anything with a curve.

An actually useful AI idea: Accessibility/Reading Order
I find many AI features unhelpful - if I need text to image I can do it in Photoshop or Express, I don't need my layout program to do it. What I would love to see AI do is be able to analyze documents and automatically fix accessibility issues, such as reading order and export tagging of headers etc.

Setting for location of new text-to-image generated images
Can there be a setting option for the default location of new text-to-image generated images - I would like to be able to set this to the folder containing the current document rather than the user/documents folder. Thanks!

I would love to be able to place .afdesign and .afphoto files in my indesign documents.

Make the tools in the toolbox customizable so we can rearrange the tool layout
Make the tools in the toolbox customizable so we can rearrange the tool layout like you can in Photoshop. I'd like to simply be able to arrange the tools in a way that benefits my workflow and hide some tools I rarely (or never) use. This is basic functionality, such an obvious feature — and it's so annoying that it is not available.

Have something similar to autolayout to push content when text-box is longer.

Generative Layout Cleanup
One of the most onerous, time-consuming tasks I deal with as a production designer is fixing layouts from designers who don't understand paragraph styles and efficient layout (No shade! They have other things to focus on and hey… that's why my job exists!)
I would like an AI that can recognize multiple separate type objects on a page, combine them into single text boxes with paragraph styles that control spacing.
In the screenshots, you first see a typical "designer" layout (again, no shade) with ten separate objects with formatting for each applied on top of the default Basic Paragraph style.
