[ID-4274243] InDesign clearing Undo stack frequently
Undo not working, InDesign 21.02x64
16.12.2025
As recently as yesterday, it was possible to perform more than 50 undo actions, but today only 1–2 steps are available, and my colleagues are experiencing the same issue.
Fix for this issue is available in the latest InDesign 2026 release (21.2.0.30) and InDesign 2025 LTS release (20.5.2.078), please update to this release from CCD app.

This is crippling to using the program and has caused a lot of frustration the last few weeks.

I updated the software today (12/23/2025), hoping the issue would be resolved, but it remains the same :/

Anu updates on the bug? It is impossible to work, and the previous version 2024 that was reported as functional is unavailable. I had to put a lot of important projects on standby and it is directly affecting my business.

Seit dem 16.12. kann ich in Indesign nur einen einzigen Schritt rückwärts gehen. Bitte unbedingt und asap fixen.

my indesign is doing the same thing... just started a week ago. had an agent remote in and remove all adobe programs and reinstall indesign, this seemed to fix it. however it started doing it again today, I did notice that I done the version update and then it started. I had another agent remote in he said it could be my GPU Driver, so we unchecked that setting in indesign, however it is still doing it. need to know a fix as it is very inconvenient.

I started having this same issue and a couple of weeks ago and even, coincidentally, had a laptop upgrade and InDesign software updated to the newest version last week and it's still happening.

Whatever the issue is, InDesign seems to be deteriorating a little bit each day, between history disappearing, text disappearing, and now objects disappearing and unable to select them. Hoping for a fix soon, as these issues are pushing me past deadlines.

This has been a problem for about a week now. At first I believed the issue was not being on a 2k+ resolution for GPU performance, but that was obviously ridiculous and now I see that the issue is becoming common for everybody.

The problem can be observed in many versions of Windows, so this glitch its not about the updates.

Posting here to follow the updates. I am having the same problem as everyone else, plus the "visual glicth" of text appearing and disappearing randomly.

Reporting that we are observing this issue as well. We use InDesign in a high-volume environment with a high degree of accuracy required. If staff are uncertain if a step has been undone and can't monitor their work through the history panel, that introduces a significant chance for error or lost work which would need to be redone. Our interim process is to save a copy of the document after each major step but that introduces its own potential for version conflicts etc.

This is happening consistently to me. Just updated InDesign today and hoped that would fix it but no. Also tried resetting prefs and deleting the cache folder as the internet recommended.
I can watch the undos disappear with the History panel open. Get up to 10 - then boom, back to 3. Huge problem.

Also having this same issue. It's very sporadic, but persistent. Removing/re-downloding the program, trashing preferences, updating to the latest version (without bringing over preferences from previous version) have not solved it.
Many times the "Undo" only goes back a couple steps, which is creating a lot of problems.

Any updates on this issue? I attempted to roll back the latest Windows update, but an Adobe Bridge DLL is causing the backup process to fail.

I have worked on InDesign for 20+ years. The CTRL Z function has always been limitless up to the last time you hit save. This "BUG" is seriously a problem.
Within the last year, another issue has popped up as well for both Windows and Mac's- a simple CTRL S (save) does not create a secure place to save all changes. At this time, I can hit save and still go backwards -kind of defeats the point of hitting save to save your changes so you can't undo them! It would be nice if this was fixed as well. SAVE should mean SAVE.-- not undo if you want. If I am editing a document, it is too easy to go backwards and undo the corrections. Again, kind of silly that save does not mean save.
