Type tool still deselects itself InDD 15.0.1
The bug has been already reported, it's been claimed to be fixed in 14.0.1, but actually still persists and never was corrected.
Typing "T" just selects the type tool very briefly, then changes back to the previous tool. Clicking inside a text frame has the same result, even if you get to select some part of the text, it just changes back tot he previous tool in most of the cases. The only way to get it work, is to select the tool in the sidebar, however even there it takes several seconds to become active.
Using InDD 15.0.1 on a Mac Pro, MacOS 10.13
The fix of the issue is now available in the latest InDesign 2022(v17.0.0.96). We recommend you upgrade to the latest version for the fix.
If you are unable to see the update, go to the Creative Cloud application and click on the context menu on the top right and click on Check for App Updates.

Everyone - Adobe knows this issue is not fixed and you should note that this thread was closed by an Adobe Engineer...
I've had several unresolved issues closed by Adobe in order to pad their support numbers.Keep up the pressure on Adobe.

This issue is definitely NOT FIXED! It's still happening.
Windows 10 x64, updated CC and InDesign to the latest version. Also, when it suddenly jumps to the selection tool, it creates a lag too. InDesign freezes for seconds then. -

I'm having the same issue InDesign version 15.0.2. I'll press the type tool and it'll activate and deactivate. During the time of its activation it will not allow me to draw a text box.

Yea, I am running InDesign 15.0.1 and this issue is still present and super annoying, not to mention a very time consuming inconvenience over the course of a day, weeks, years.
For the many many hundreds of clicks I am making a day editing the countless collateral assets I work on, having to go to the actual type tool and click on it versus hitting "T" is substantially longer to do.
Is there an actual fix for this issue yet?

This is still a problem. I think it occurs when files created in older versions of indesign are edited in newer versions, but that is just a guess. I'm using 15.0.1 on MacOS 10.14.6 Mojave.

I confirm that the problem still exists in InDesign 15.0.1. My computer runs Windows 10 Pro.

HELLLLOOOOO Adobe!! This issue is NOT, NOT, NOT fixed. I am currently running InDesign version 15.0.1 (Feb 3, 2020). Still the exact issue. I select the type tool using the shortcut key "T" and it deselects the type tool and automatically selects the selection tool.
