Bug: Shift + 1 = bold paragraph instead of an exclamation point. So there is no way to type an exclaimation point right now in InDesign
I have InDesign 21.3 x64. Currently, there is no way to type an exclamation point. When you use the Shift key + the number 1, it will bold the paragraph instead of giving you an exclamation point.

Canvas disappears on monitor setup change
When I'm on my macbook Pro (16" M1 Max 2021), and have a document open, then connect my computer to an external monitor/workstation and make indesign full screen on that monitor, the canvas disappears, and I can only see the grey background until I close the document and reopen it again. This also happens when I disconnect the monitor and scale the indesign app to the macbook monitor size. I'm using indesign 21.4 on Sequoia 15.0

Upon migration to a version 21.4 pasteboard size is not carried on
Upon migration to a version 21.4 pasteboard size is not carried on. I always set my defaults to 256 x 128 or 512 x 128 mm but upon migration of my preferences to a new InDesign these has been reset to defaults.

When trying to make a new doc does not allow me to because margins were set to big on last doc
On last doc I made I needed big margins, so
- previous doc I made 350mm margins
- went to make new file
- new doc
- made dims of page smaller like 150mm x 1000mm
- error warning saying not allowing me to make doc due to big margins
- try to change margins its not letting me make doc.In old versions of indesign it would just make massive margins that would meet in the middle like a tiny pink square in middel of page, then let you make the doc without any warning and then you would…

Can't edit page elements when updated from 2024 to 2026 versions of inDesign
My book that is roughly 200+ pages was created in 2023 and was editable in all versions until I got to 2026. My computer's processing power is not in question, but I can no longer edit elements that were created on previous versions. If I make new pics, text blocks, or anything, those are editable, but nothing else. If I try and revert the file, it warns me that I may LOSE my material if trying to go back.. This is unacceptable. In ever instance I don't want to open the file in the newest version and each time it…

Creating a new document - size changes
I'm on the latest version of Adobe InDesign (although this has been an issue for a while now). When creating a new document and changing the page size, margins etc. InDesign changes it back, I have to do this 3-4 times before it gives me the correct size or sometimes I have to go with the size InDesign has selected and change it once the new document has been opened. And no it's not because the margins don't work with the size of the document I want to create. I'm not the only one in the office with this issue…

Pages invisible
Pages are not visible. This started after Mac OS upgrade to 26.3 (25D125). I have to shut down InDesign to make pages visible, then if I zoom in or oiut pages disappear.

Opens in old version after the latest automatic upgrade
When I double click on an InDesign file in a folder, why are my files trying to open in an older version of InDesign (2025), when I have the latest version installed? It wasn't happening before the latest version of InDesign 2026 was updated today, and I can't work out how to stop it happening in future, so that any file I click on opens in the latest version of InDesign, not an old one. I have specified that any *.indd file should open in the latest version, but that doesn't resolve the problem.

Applying Parent Pages
I would like to suggest a feature that allows parent pages to be applied to even/odd number pages or by multiples of a number, rather than manually typing which pages to apply the parents. It is time consuming to do this for PDFs with a lot of pages. For example, I proof spiral bound books and would like to show where the holes will punch, but if the book is 2-sided, I need the holes to alternate throughout the pages.

Cannot place text in columns or flow text
I try to place my manuscript from a Google doc and tried Word doc, but it does not put the text in the columns or flow it. It has created more pages but it put the text only at left pages or not at all. I DO WANT the text like in my A-master with two columns to flow in these columns. The shift-click does not work. I do not get a snake arrow... The settings for flow text is on. I have chosen primary text frames...I am a newby but I can´t get any support.

When opening a new file, I cannot enter custom width and height numbers.
I'm using Windows 11, version 25H2, and InDesign version 21.0.2.
I find it very strange and inconvenient that, while I can enter custom width and height in Adobe Illustrator (version 30.0), I can't do so in InDesign.

Section is pre-coded/hard-coded for all the pages in the document
I'm trying to modify the Section setting for pages in my document, but it looks like all the pages are already pre/hard-coded with the checkbox "Start section" On. As you can see in the attached screenshot, the box is already pre-checked, however, you don't see the Arrow mark above the page that indicates that a new section begins. This looks like not just a cosmetic problem, but also functional, because I cannot really divide the document into separate sections. As a result, just as an example, I cannot start the Footnotes from the begining for every section. The Footnotes are…

linking text blocks error
I created several related blocks on a master page. The blocks don't auto-continue; they're not master blocks. I then initialize them and filled them with text. Then I group them with other elements. Then I no longer needed them, so I tried deleting the blocks. But InDesign wouldn't allow it, as it thought I needed to add pages. I deleted the entire contents of the text blocks. But InDesign still tried to add the page, even though there was no content in the blocks. The last block in the chain link always had a continuation icon, but in reality this…

incorrect work with layers
I have 2 layers in the template. On the first - various elements, which does not matter, on the second (top) - a group of text blocks. I put a lock on layer 1, remove the lock from layer #2 and ungroup the group of objects. They all jump from layer #2 to layer #1 and immediately become inaccessible, because that layer is locked!

Moving Pages calls for use of Absolute Page Number
- InDesign 21.0.1 x64 (on Windows 11)
- I want to move a page from a document where I have changed the Numbering & Section Options so that the document includes multiple pages with the same page number. I open the document that includes the page I want to move, and open the document which will receive that page. I select a page in the pages panel, right click, and select "Move Page." The Move Pages dialog box appears, and I select the document and location where I want the page to be moved and click OK.
- The highlighted page will be…

Pasteboard issues
Pasting things sometimes changes the size of the pasteboard drastically. Pasteboard margins changes to 10 mm and 10 mm when I paste into the document and it only happens on one page, even if I have multiple pages in the document. This is happening since I updated Indesign from 2025 to 2026 on Windows 11. This causes me to fix the pasteboard size many times throughout the day over and over again.

When I launching InDesign
Lately, when I launch InDesign, a dialog box immediately appears that reads: "You cannot reverse this change with the Edit>Unod command. Do you want to continue anyway?" (see screenshot) and you only have two choices: Cancel or OKAY. Being forced to choose OKAY, I'll open a Recent file of some sort, and the stupid dialog box follows me there as well, and sure enough, if I make a change and go to Command Z (I'm on a Mac), the Undo command is ignored and in fact Edit>Undo is greyed out in the menu bar. This has GOT to be a…
