  1. Text wrap around anchored objects needs to work according to settings. It is inconsistent and erratic.

Text wrap refuses to wrap properly around my anchored objects regardless of anchor placement in the paragraph or text wrap offset settings.

This causes the object to overlap the text and/or have inconsistent margin offset around the object. It's erratic and inconsistent among the various objects, even though they all have the exact same object style applied.

Some of the objects wrap a little better than others - at least they're not overlapping on top of text - but the wrap margins are still inconsistent. Not a single object wraps how I believe it should based on the style attributes…

  2. Default underline position misinterprets font’s specification

InDesign interprets the underline position as the center of the line (from which the "thickness" extends outward), whereas the OpenType spec calls for it to be the top of the line (from which the thickness extends downward). This causes inconsistencies with other application’s interpretation of the same font’s metadata.

    See here:
    https://docs.microsoft.com/de-de/typography/opentype/spec/post#header

    Quote:

    underlinePosition

This is the suggested distance of the top of the underline from the baseline (negative values indicate below baseline).

The PostScript definition of this FontInfo dictionary key (the y coordinate of the center of the stroke) is not used for historical reasons. The value of the…

  4. Mark positioning (GPOS) went wrong for text on path

Khmer rendering has been working well on most of the Adobe products. InDesign is one of them, especially after the fix: https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601180-adobe-indesign-bugs/suggestions/36534535-khmer-script-justification-is-broken.

However, I've just noticed that there is another bug with GPOS for Khmer (or maybe other scripts), when the text is on a path.

    InDesign Version: 17.1
    Composer: World-ready
    Text: គុណតម្លៃរបស់យើង ស្ត្រី កន្លោង
    Font: https://fonts.google.com/noto/specimen/Noto+Sans+Khmer

  5. Font disappears when size of text is changed

When working in a text box and changing the size of the font, the text disappears altogether. If I change the font to a different one, the text reappears, then change font back to the one I used originally and text disappears again. (For example: changed font from default myriad pro to Ultra--text still showing; changed font size--text disappears; change font to Roboto (or anything else)--text reappears.)
No matter position of text box, size of box, size of font, changing to overprint view, nothing makes the text reappear except changing the font to something else. Font/text is also missing when…

  6. story editor

Using Indesign 17.2 on x64 PC. Brand-new machine with fresh install.

To reproduce the issue open the story editor then close it.

Expected result: The story editor closes and I can resume working in the main document window immediately.

Actual result: When I close the story editor, the window disappears but all the tools on the toolbar, except the text tool, remain greyed out and I can't do anything in the main document for around 30 seconds.

  7. Cross reference forces line break

    1. Indesign 17 and 16
    2. Write text in textbox. Insert cross reference close to the text box right boundary.
    3. I expect the cross reference to fit that line
    4. It is forced to line break.
    5. See attached files (red arrow).
    6. The problem does not occur when using Adobe World-Ready Paragraph Composer but when using (the normal) Adobe Paragraph Composer.

  8. Optical kerning too wide between apostrophe and lowercase d

I'm using InDesign 17.1 but I believe this is a longstanding bug. When using optical kerning, the visual distance between an apostrophe and a lowercase d is too wide. I'm attaching a screenshot with examples using I'd, She'd, and Who'd. The upper version of each one uses optical kerning, while the lower version is where I have manually adjusted the kerning to something more like it should be. I also include examples of the pleasing optical kerning shown by other apostrophe-letter pairs.

Most relevant is the apostrophe s combination. The lowercase s has an upper left curve similar to the…

  9. There does not seem to be a way to activate the Japanese Paragraph composer in the English version of InDesign

I am an native English speaker and use InDesign primarily in English. I sometimes have projects in other languages; i actually read a fair bit of Japanese and noticed that the lines were breaking even wtih World-ready paragraph composer turned on. I then learned that InDesign has both Japanese paragraph and single-line composers, whhich appear to be accessible in PREFERENCES under Advanced Type, but this does not seem to do anything I need done with the text.

i was told I must install the Japanese language version of InDesign to apply this feature. It would be wonderful if that would…

  11. Maintain vertical alignment textframe when using Text Wrap

When a text frame with vertical alignment 'Bottom' is partially over a frame which uses Text Wrap, the alignment isn't locked to the bottom of the frame anymore. Is it possible to maintain the set vertical alignment when using the Text Wrap option (see screenshot). (MacOS 10.15.7, INDD 16.4 + 17.1)

  12. Dictionary: Added words using context-menu are only in lowercase, but should be with uppercase letter

    ID 17.1
    Language: German
    Using User-dictionary

If I'll add a word from text (wich contains an uppercase letter at first position) to the user-dictionary using context-menu (right click on mouse), I get the option to add. After this, the word is added, but only in lowercase, although the checkbox "upper/lowercase active" is enabled.
Workaround: Adding the word with uppercase letter by using the menu-bar: "Bearbeiten -> Rechtschreibprüfung -> Benutzerwörterbuch" inserts the word in uppercase.
Please have a look and change it.

  14. Copying a URL Hyperlink auto formats to a opening another indesign file

I've been having URL hyperlinks that are copied Document A into Document B are auto format as a shared location that is Document A. But all I want is Document B to have the same hyperlinks, and nothing I've tried will prevent "shared destination" as being the default. All I wanted is the an image with a hyperlink to copy into Document B as a URL. Instead I have random InDesign documents opening without warning and then indesign crashes. I've ended up needing to delete all hyperlinks (attached to both text and images) and entirely reformat each one. Without accidently…

  15. Pressing letter "2" changes text layout / format, but only in one document

Pressing letter "2" changes text layout / format, but only in one document

Hi, I've had this issue with one InDesign file. Whenever I press letter "2", text formatting in that paragraph changes, and the letter "2" won't appear. Copy+paste works, but that should not be the answer. This problem occurs only in this one document (and been here over several version updates), so I assume it might be some sort of quick key setting, and I don't know how or where to fix it (already searched through quick key listing). Please help?

  16. Type tool still lags when hitting the (T) shortcut key

Hi, the type key short cut bug seems to have been fixed but when you hit the shortcut to bring up the type tool it is still very laggy. Any thought on this?

When disabling character in the settings it is instant. But i don't want to keep having to do this.

    Thanks,

  17. Stylistic Sets do not work alongside feature variations

Hi there! There seems to be a bug when applying OpenType Stylistic Sets to fonts that have feature variations. This has occurred with multiple fonts produced by me and colleagues, so I have made a simplified test font that you can use to duplicate the issue.

A summary of the issue is below, and you can find full documentation and the test files here: https://github.com/djrrb/Italic-Alternates-Test

Version of Adobe InDesign: InDesign 16.2.1

    Steps to reproduce the issues:
    - select variable font with feature variation
    - use variable font slider or select named instance to apply feature variation
    - apply opentype stylistic…

  18. Not all spaces are rendered correctly with World-Ready Composer

The narrow no-break space (U+202F) is not rendered correctly when the World-Ready Composer is used: its width becomes equal to a normal space, instead of being thin.

See attachment for illustration (the problem occurs regardless of the font used), reproduced with InDesign v16.4.

This problem is maybe related to https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601180-adobe-indesign-bugs/suggestions/41793187-bug-since-cs6-nonbreaking-space-s-issue-wit

  20. footnotes show up at the bottom of text box rather than bottom of page when "span footnotes" is selected

How do I get footnote #1 in my screenshot to show up with footnotes #2 and #3 at the bottom of the page. For the life of me, I cannot find a setting that makes this possible. Thank you in advance.
