InDesign 2021 keeps crashing
InDesign has crashed about 5 times since updating the other day. My team is also having the same problem. Mac and PC.
Hello All,
We have fixed a number of stability issues with InDesign’s latest update. Please download the latest InDesign version.
If you are unable to see the update yet, go to Creative Cloud application, click on the context menu on the top right and click on Check for App Updates.

I am running InDesign 2021, and have the problem. I am running Mac OS 11.4 with 64gb of RAM on a 2020 iMac. This should not be happening.

Same here too. Running 16.2.1 on OSX 11.3.1. Have removed Suitcase and then uninstalled and re-installed Indesign and still beach balling and stalling every few edits. Lots of threads about this elsewhere but no sign of an answer.

UPDATE 16 APRIL: I've tried out the Indesign 16.3 Beta version for 2 full days now and I haven't got any issues anymore. Seems that the bug is fixed. I would recommend to use the 16.3 beta version if you have the new M1 chip. (In the Creative Cloud app check for the "Beta Apps" in "Categories" on the left side of the screen)

I have a new iMac 2020, 3.6 GHz processor, 32GB RAM, 2TB SSD, Radeon Pro 5700 XT 16GB. Ever since I updated Creative Cloud, InDesign 2021 has been very unstable. It crashes every day with no pattern -- when closing files, when quitting the program, when moving an object, editing text, returning to the computer after taking a meal break. Adobe has released numerous updates and the issue persists. I've been using InDesign for several years and have never found a version so terribly unstable. It's truly incredible.

Same problem here like many of the people in the comments. New macbook with M1 and Id keeps on crashing - impossible to work. Very annoying

After a long search i found that the latest Macbook Pro (which has the M1 chip and runs on "Apple Silicon" instead of the previously common "Intel" processor) is not compatible with Indesign 2021. In short, the M1 chip is not supported by Indesign. However, other users report that the new Beta version of Indesign IS working with the M1 chip. Will test out right now and report asap!

Same here, got a brand new Macbook Pro (13 inch, M1, 2020) and running Indesign 16.1. It crashes about 5 times a day. Got a LOT of deadlines but Indesign keeps crashing for something basic as moving a text frame. I am not running any other software besides Indesign.
I miss the good old days where I could crush a book file of literally 200+ pages on a rusty old Imac... Please fix this Adobe! Making print-based media is no rocket science imho..

Just got InDesign and it keeps crashing and freezing my whole laptop. (My MacBook Pro is only 2 months old and had no issues before InDesign came along.) Arrrggggh, please fix this issue!

If I save my file as an IDML it works fine, so this is what I'm doing as a workaround for now but would love to figure out what's causing this issue! I'm using a brand new macbook pro M1 chip, but I was having the same issue in InDesign on a much older macbook air too.

I’m experiencing the same issues as everyone else. I’ve started running InDesign 2020 so I can attempt to actually get work done (shameless of me to have such lofty goals, I realize). The latest maddening twist is I cannot export IDMLs from the 2021 version. When I try to, the app crashes. So I guess I’m just SOL on any files I updated to INDD 2021. THANKS, ADOBE.
I have: deleted the preferences, reinstalled the app, reinstalled earlier versions of the app, exported as IDML, saved as IDML, packaged the job, and probably 18 other things. Nothing works. My Mac is less than a year old and more than up to the task. I run Linotype Font Explorer … you know what, I’m tired of explaining myself. No one at Adobe is even reading this.
I’m not sending you error reports, Adobe, because it’s a complete waste of my time. You don’t listen, you don’t apparently care. And you’ve already wasted enough of my time this year. I’ve been using Adobe software since the early 90s and it’s never been this completely wretched.

I just bought a new Macbook Pro last week and at first I thought it was my laptop. But after seeing all of these comments, I'm glad it's not just me! I'm trying to get work done for class and it's frustrating when it keeps crashing. Please update this for Big Sur!!

Same here. Ever since updating to Big sur Indesign causes my new iMac to shut down.
Apple support technicians have looked into this for me and found out that Adobe Indesign App 16.1 is causing/creating a multiple 'Kernel Panic' that forces the machine to shut down. They suggested this is a serious fault within the Adobe App and urged me to contact Adobe.
However - does anybody actually listen at Adobe?

Close to pulling my hair out because of Indesign. Consistent freezing and crashing - the updates just make it worse and worse - need an answer ASAP!

At a loss - endless crash cycle. Brand new Surface Book 3 and can't even open a file without it crashing. Crashes on opening the application. Crashes on trying to restore document crashed on. Crashes on adding text. Completely unusable.

WTF is going on with InDesign? Brand new MacBook Pro, latest version of InDesign and all **** is breaking loose! It crashes multiple times a day! I see a lot of people are having the same issue, any solutions yet?

Same here. Multiple times a day and often I am not doing more than closing a small file. For a week or so when InDesign crashed it would rename all the recovered files as untitled.indd. That was fun. New iMac, the newest version of InDesign. Plenty of room available to do its thing.

Same for me. Constant crashing, for myriad reasons. Just now crashed when I closed a file! Can’t get any help. Tech support is blaming it on files being on external hd, but I have worked this way for YEARS and not had any issues. Have newest iMac and current/updated versions of all creative suite.

Keeps crashing constantly, can't open any files, and the very few times that I've been able to, ID freezes. Please fix this as there are many of us not getting any work done at all!!
