InDesign 16.0 saves Converted files in last used folder, not containing folder
On Catalina OSX (10.15.7), InDesign 2021 (16.0) saves a Converted file to the last used Finder folder, rather than the folder the document is contained in.
Happens with 'Save As...', as well as saving InCopy assignments.
The fix for this issue is now available in the latest update of InDesign – version 16.0.1.
Please update to this version to get the fix.

SInce new Version of Indesign in Oct 2020 you have to save opened files new.
Suggestion is not the folder of this file but the last opened folder… please change this -

It WAS working but without yesterday's INDD update, it no longer is!

This is so frustrating. How is this not a setting I can change?

I have been dealing with this for quite awhile, as well as when I export pdfs—same issue. It only makes sense to me that the default should be to save it to the same folder the file was opened from. Working with multiple files throughout the day makes it cumbersome—always having to redirect it to the original folder when saving or exporting a file. At the very least, there could be a preference where we can choose "save files to original location" and "save files to a default folder" (the latter has been mentioned as a need on other forums I've read when trying to find a solution to this issue.)

I'll second that. There is absolutely no worthwhile reason for it not to point to the directory containing the original file.
Can't believe this request isn't more popular.

Right now the Save As location seems to be the PREVIOUS folder location where I saved a file.
However, in other programs like Photoshop, the default location goes to the same folder as opened file.
Consulted help center and got no solution other than rerouting every time I save as a file. PLEASE also make the default Save As location in InDesign to the same location as opened file!! I'm working on like 3 or more projects at the same time and have to reroute the save location all the time! In fact I accidentally overwrote an important working file in another folder because of this! -

When I open a previous version ID project and click convert, the option to save the project opens the previous file folder I was working in and not the one I have open at the time (where the document is actually located). This is very frustrating. The project I open should save to the file I opened to find it. I have spent a lot of time retracing my steps to find out what file I had opened previously to locate my errant project. Idea: please fix this.
