Suddenly my document reverts to an earlier version
Ever since I updated Adobe InDesign to version 15.0.1, my current document suddenly reverts to a state from several minutes prior. All of my recent changes are gone, up to ten minutes, and they are not even available under Edit > Redo.
I've started saving more often now. Recently, this problem happened again. It suddenly went back to an earlier state than I had last saved, so I closed without saving, reopened, and the file was exactly in the state I expected, which was a LATER state than my document had reverted itself to (thank goodness), but not where I was before the problem happened.
I find myself having to figure out, over and over again, what changes I've made to my document for the last ten minutes so that I can do the same thing over again. I have to save between each step!! This is not good!

Each time I create a PDF from an Indesign file, it reverts to a previous version in the PDF. My Indesign file is correct, but the pdf is not.

Has anyone found a fix for this? One of our designers at work is having this issue. I haven't had this problem, but it's happened to her several times now. It's impacting our ability to meet deadlines.

I have this problem too, just saved everything and then I reopen it just to check something within minutes, and it's back to the original file. I wonder if it has to do with the fact it wasn't packaged?????

This same thing has happened to me. I have a catalog created in InDesign that has now reverted to a version from months ago. I still have the most recent PDF, but the source file has a "last modified" date from two months ago.
I've searched and have not been able to find a solution for restoring or recovering this work.

Yo I might lose my job because of this, has anyone solved it?

I am having the same problem. Our shared document reverted back to one several months older, and this is a catalog.

I just had the same the problem too. Unfortunately, the PDF that changed, was merged into a large file with several other PDFs and the change was not caught. The older state (error laden document) was sent to a government agency for review.

I'm also having this problem. But it's every time I swap computers. I have the same version of Indesign on both, my laptop and my desktop computer. I saved it on a USB to transport it, i've also saved it on google drive. But every time I download it onto my laptop --all my changes are gone.
When I go back and look at the same file on my desktop computer, the new changes are there. It seems i'm only able to work off my desktop computer and not on my laptop. Which is a huge problem for me as I cannot always be in the one location.

I recently had a document revert back to a version from two months ago! It lost every revision I did between January 20, 2021, and March 22, 2021 - of which there were many. This is a fatal flaw for me. I cannot have "living" documents that I update weekly reverting back to old versions willy-nilly. >:(

I am having this same issue as well along with my coworkers.

Yes, might have to do that or something similar. Luckily the problem has only happened once, at least so far.

Wow Tuomas, that's a really serious problem, I've fortunately not encountered that one!
Since Adobe haven't answered this report yet (after all, it has only been a year since the first report ;-), may I suggest a possible workaround: since Time Machine replaces the back-up, maybe storing your file in a Dropbox hot-folder will keep every saved version (for a limited time)? I'm not sure if it'll work in your case, but maybe worth a try..? -

Hi Halvor. Yes, I'm sure of it. In Finder, the file name is the same but "Date Modified" is older. And when opening the file, the content is old as well.

Hi Tuomas, are you sure the document actually changed to an older version and it's not the preview-bug in these other reports that seems to be the same problem?

I had a similar incident (on version 16.01). My computer froze and when I came back to look if it was running again, Indesign had closed itself. When I opened the file again, I noticed it had reverted itself to an older version that was 4 days older.
I have no idea how this is possible. I had been saving the document regularly, several times every day. Working on a Mac, I tried to get back the old (actually newer one) from Time Machine, but for some reason all the snapshots available were only after the incident.
Also general feedback: I cannot believe how bad your support is for such a huge firm. I tried finding a support number on your website and it took me a ridiculous amount of time. When I finally found one, I could only hear static and a completely incomprehensible voice on the other end. Tried several times and same thing every time. I also tried to find a feed back form on your website but never managed to find one.
I pay several hundred euros each year for your products. I feel like it should be possible to get help on any urgent issues.

Also, when this happens, I often discover that Undo/Redo and Save/Save As are grayed out for that document. I had to export as an IDML document last time. Then I had to quit restart InDesign to get it working again.
