Type tool still deselects itself InDD 15.0.1
The bug has been already reported, it's been claimed to be fixed in 14.0.1, but actually still persists and never was corrected.
Typing "T" just selects the type tool very briefly, then changes back to the previous tool. Clicking inside a text frame has the same result, even if you get to select some part of the text, it just changes back tot he previous tool in most of the cases. The only way to get it work, is to select the tool in the sidebar, however even there it takes several seconds to become active.
Using InDD 15.0.1 on a Mac Pro, MacOS 10.13
The fix of the issue is now available in the latest InDesign 2022(v17.0.0.96). We recommend you upgrade to the latest version for the fix.
If you are unable to see the update, go to the Creative Cloud application and click on the context menu on the top right and click on Check for App Updates.

I'm having this problem on a Macbook Pro from 2015 running Catalina 10.15.2 and using Adobe InDesign 15.0.1. As a graphic designer that works primarily with type this is an extremely frustrating and frequent issue. I know it is difficult to know what issues to prioritize but this seems to be effecting a lot of users and this is would help a lot of people to speed their workflows back up.

YOOOOOOOOOO this a thread from 2018 with someone saying this problem has been fixed?
Yikes it is nearly 2020 and the problem is still there.
Does Adobe wants us to switch to other softwares? It does really feel like it. -

Here is a video of me only hitting the "T" shortcut and moving my mouse around. Super frustrating--hope this helps.
macOS Mojave 10.14.4 mac mini
InDesign 2020*edit* The only work around I've found is to just hold "T" until I don't need the tool anymore.

This issue has not been resolved. This is ridiculous. It's a basic tool and shortcut I've been using for years and I need it to be efficient in my work. Stop making new features we don't even use and make sure the basic stuff works. Fix this once and for all!

This bug is still in the newest version 2020...
It's looks like When you press and hold "T" you can select text, but when you unhold key it back to selection cursor automatically.
Hard to call it a feature when you have to keep pressing "T" and type something else...
By mouse click "T" on sidebar it change tool pernament
Maybe it's good when you have to delete for example dot, but if someone works more on text it's really annoying upgrade.
There should be check option for this in settings. -
