InDesign 2020 won't overwrite PDF
Since updating to Indesign 2020 I can't overwrite pdf files from the export menu it says 'file is still open' when it's not. Yet another thing broken on the yearly beta test.
Fix for this issue is now available in the latest update of InDesign 2020 – that is, InDesign 15.1.2
In the Creative Cloud Desktop application, click on the Updates section on the left. You should be able to see the Update available for InDesign. Please update your InDesign application to this version to try out the fix.
Let us know in the comments section if you still face this problem.

This problem just started for me. It says it's overwriting the PDF, but does not. It does overwrite when a copy with the same name is physically dragged into the folder. Adding this step to the process is NOT ideal.
I am running 15.0.1

I have the latest version and just got the same error again today. The PDF is not open anywhere and has been closed for 20 minutes. I do not have time to regularly close ID in order to reset this feature. What can I do?

Mac OS. After update to 15.0.1.209 we still have the same problem to overwrite PDFs on SMB shares. InDesign seems to hold the exported PDF open until you fully close InDesign.

I've updated to 15.0.1 as well and still have the same issue. I can overwrite a PDF that's been there for a while, but not one that was just recently created.

From The Netherlands: It seems to work very well!
2019 seemed to have been updated, but 2020 (15.01) is now working as it should. Thanks! -

I just updated to InDesign 15.0.1 and it is still doing the same thing. Same message. If there is a PDF in the folder you can not over write it.

yes we are all experiencing this in our team of designers - very annoying and frustrating and then having to find it's a known issue is more time wasted. PLease fix asap Adobe.

Do we know when an official non-beta update will be released

The problem persist with the last export opened in adobe acrobat.
Say for example I exported Name1.pdf and I opened in acrobat then re-try to re-export? won't overwrite the doc. But let's say I work on the same file one with bleeds and another one without bleeds? it will overwrite the one previously open on acrobat but not the last one opened in Acrobat I don't know if it makes any sense of what I'm saying. -
