InDesign performance issue: Hand tool freezes

10.12.6 Sierra
Hand tool freezes and no other tool can be selected. It won't unfreeze unless I shut down entire computer. This is a recurring issue.

Hi,
In order to reproduce the issue we sent information to all the affected users who have either voted or commented on this thread.
Based on the replies we got we could infer that the issue is occurring when a third party software or application is also running in parallel. Some examples of the software used include Global Auto-correct, Google Chrome,
Moreover, when the issue occurs it seems to hamper all CC applications such as Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop.
A possible fix for the solution includes restarting the application or restarting the system.

In the absence of any consistent reproducible steps, we are currently closing this thread as “not reproducible”. In case you again encounter the issue, please create a new thread mentioning the steps with which we can reproduce the issue and additional softwares, if in case any, that you are using.

We have identified a scenario where a third party app, while running in the background, leads to freezing of hand tool.

Hello All,

I am trying to reproduce the issue so that it can be fixed at the earliest.
However, we are still unable to get down to the steps to reproduce the problem inhouse.
Please help us with providing the below mentioned details.
1. What are the most used extensions in your Web Browser?
2. Does the problem occur only when you had earlier used the hand tool or is it regardless of that?
3. Have you witnessed the same issue on Id 14.0.1?

It would great if you can help us with answers to some of below queries?

1. On which OS and Id version are you seeing this issue?
2. Is it that, you select Hand tool once and it does not get deselected thereafter?
3. Does it happen only when your document is zoomed-in to a certain zoom level?
4. Is it specific to a document, i.e when you open a new document the problem goes away?
5. Any other information that you think can be helpful while trying to reproduce the issue in-house.

Just set up a new MacBook Pro and when I installed InDesign the spacebar move and zoom in zoom out does not work. Very frustrating

My InDesign is stuck on the hand tool, I have restarted/reset my computer which is fully updated. I have reset my preferences and reinstalled my InDesign, It works for a bit, then gets stuck on the hand tool again. My keyboard seems to be working normally. Any suggestion to fixing this problem? it is very frustrating.

Me too! I'm trying to find a solution here on forums, but nothing is helping. All my shortcut keys do not work! my duplicate (option + dragging down the item) doesn't work and to right click and copy, then paste in place is EXTREMELY tedious and I lose precious time.

Spacebar shortcut is also one of my headaches! Adobe, please help!!

Since I use Indesign CC (Now CC 2018 13.0) sometimes the hand tool (spacebar) doesn't work. And today it again doesn't work. Why is this problem here for almost a year now. I am very disappointed in this bug.

I would like to know how can I get the page to move around as it did before with the space bar as this was the most effective way of controlling and moving around a layout in Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign.

can you fix this please as it is cumbersome to use the hand tool.
Can I revert to using the space bar again?
