Distorted Text and Graphics in high sierra
When opening a previously created file, I noticed small visual artifacts in the rendering of vector graphics in the file. As I zoomed in to inspect it, the artifacts began jumping all over the place, and as I zoomed in further, text on the page began presenting the same behavior.
Using InDesign 2017.1, Build 12.1.0.56 on a 2016 Macbook Pro (2.9 GHz Intel Core i5, 16 GB RAM), running macOS High Sierra 10.13.
This is a macOS10.13 issue, specific for some Intel GPU cards. Apple has fixed(partially) this issue inside macOS10.13.4 released build.
Following are the workaround for resolving this issue.
1) Update your mac machine to latest macOS10.13.4. Here, Apple has fixed this issue to some extent. You will face very less number of rendering issues.
2) Disable GPU preview and set display performance as typical.
Once you have updated to macOS10.13.4 .You might still face some rendering issues. Since, Apple has not fixed this issue completely.
Please switch off GPU rendering for these cases and report a separate post for tracking.

After the last update, I've had glitchy grey overlays when I'm viewing with guides. It's even appearing in my pasteboard. Is there a reason this is happening?? V distracting.

Just turn off GPU rendering in the Preferences, no biggie. It makes no to very very small differences in screen speed redrawing or scrolling.

Come on Adobe!! Sort this out!! It's driving me crazy!!! It's extremely hard to meet deadlines when you're having to re-do the work constantly!

This is driving me crazy. Illustrator and InDesign are nearly unworkable because the graphics become unreadable unless I zoom out & back in again, or use other means to make it redraw. Maybe I should uninstall the latest OS update & go back to 10.12?

Two months?! I can't even work in AI anymore because of this same exact issue. Will I be getting a refund for two months of CC? This is unacceptable.

Any solutions to the problem since Oct 5? Been two months already. InDesign (both new and older versions) has become useless on mac High Sierra.

Every time I use InDesign grey shapes appear as I am working in the document. They randomly appear and sometimes cover the whole page. When I zoom in or out sometimes it goes away but always reappear. Its very annoying and gets in the way of my work.

I have the same problem and here's what makes working in Indesign easier for me. But it's not a solution.
In keyboard shortcuts I have created a simple shortcut (in my case push 'space') to 'View menu> Allow object level display settings'. This way you can renew your preview in a quick way. -

Oh gosh, I never should have updated! As many have said, this affects my livelihood and severely impedes my ability to use the program... I hope this is high on your "to fix" list!

Ever since updating to the new InDesign CC 2018, my InDesign files have strange glitches and artefacts when I view them. I will attach two files to show. In the first, the black lines are not actual objects... they disappear if I zoom in or out.
In the second file, the type is cut off with black. Once again, this disappears and reappears as I zoom in and out.
No there is nothing above or below them. This happens even if I create a simple colour square. It is super annoying!!

I have the same issues! It happens to almost every document I create. It is extremely frustrating and preventing me from doing my work properly.

I have the same issues. Seriously, I see comments from the start of October it's almost December. This is affecting my work and livelihood it's, not a game, fix the problems already. I usually love inDesign but this is a huge thorn in my side. So annoyed, if there was a good alternative I would be looking into it!!!
BTW, it's your program, own the issues and problems stop passing it off onto someone else. -

Apple did not build InDesign.
Your product folks built InDesign. InDesign is installed predominantly, I have to assume, on Apple products and platforms. Seems to me that coding to their platform(s) is job no.1 of your P&E teams. In that this issue is not limited to High Sierra alone (see myriad comments below) I am amused that you would push your lacking tests, comms, and QC off on Apple. Renders your narrative suspect not owning it.
I am reminded of a time when Quark went the way of the dinosaur when they assumed their king-of-the-hill monopolized hubris could carry their inept bloatware past any market newcomer.
Then along came an elegant and stable upstart in InDesign. InDesign bothered to work with the end-user in mind and to develop to the printer/separator software their files were served up on.
I dunno, maybe beware complacency, and history – it tends to repeat itself. And then consider a pleasant, but stern, user-centric discussion with P&E about historical narratives and paycheck funding.
Just a thought.

You don't solve the issue yet? So i think you refound user who pay for an unusable InDesign?

I have similar graphics issues on my 2017 IMac running high sierra 10.13.1 .
I have intermittent strange lights, broken images, bright slices of white across the screen, at times it crashes or just jams but the screenshots of the incidents only show pix elated dots in varying colors across the screen. All since "upgrading" to High Sierra.. This a brand new Mac!

This issue not only affects High Sierra, but also Sierra. I had this issue on my MacBookPro 13" 2016 (Intel Iris 550 1536Mb) in Sierra too. Just updated to High Sierra, issue remains.
It seems to be GPU related, as deactivating GPU Preview resolves the issue.
