1. "recent" files date modified

   It's January 2 and all my recent files (updated within the last couple weeks or month, meaning December) are showing up as being from "1 year ago" which is not quite true.

2. Cursor clicking and dragging when only clicking.

   When just clicking somewhere on-screen (e.g. clicking a different swatch colour or clicking on a text box), sometimes the cursor will click and drag the item as well. I have tried multiple mice (3) and still have the same issue with each one, making me assume it may be a software issue.

3. provide tool to manage external cross-references

   I am responsible for maintaining and updating a long manual with many cross-references. Most of these cross-references are internal to the book collection, but a significant minority reference specific sections in other books that make up the manual or specific sections in other reference documents external to my organization. The ability to use the cross-reference tools to manage internal cross-references is a godsend. Manually tracking external cross-references, however, is extremely tedious and mistake-prone. Obviously it would not be possible to provide hyperlinks or automatic updating for external cross-references. However, I would still like a way to keep track of them in InDesign.

   I would love for InDesign to provide the following workflow for managing external cross-references:
   1. Provide a way to mark text strings as external cross-references. This could either be within the existing Insert Cross-Reference tool or a separate new tool. Ideally there would be an option to add metadata, such as the title and edition of the external document being referenced.
   2. Provide a way to export an external cross-reference report as .CSV or other table format. This table would list each text string marked as an external cross reference, along with the page number where it appears in the InDesign document and any other metadata defined for that record.
   3. Provide an option to toggle on and off highlighting of text marked as external cross references in InDesign.

4. data merge images

   InDesign 20.0.1 on MaxOS 15.1.1 (24B91), the Data merge for images does not work. There are no errors or warmings, but upon previewing, exporting or merging the images to not populate. The same data file and downsaved indd file (ver 19) works.

5. Index type range bugs

   I specifically have my problems with "To Next Use Of Style" and "For Next # Of Paragraphs"

   1. To Next Use Of Style
      The adobe guide specifically says that the range is until the NEXT use of the specific para style but if the paragraph that contains the index marker is the same as the intended end of range, it only recognizes the first page. It counts the current para style aswell.
      So if I want to i.e. make an index marker on a bridgehead with a range until the next bridgehead, I have to put the marker to the beginning of the following paragraph instead of on the bridgehead as the author intended.

   2. For Next # Of Paragraphs
      Here the range is always only to the beginning of the paragraphs, not till the end. So if I have an index marker on a paragraph and the range should end at the end of the first paragraph which exceeds to the following page, I have to type "2" instead of "1" since the latter only counts the beginning of the paragraph (or in this case the point of the index marker) and thus only the first page is shown in the index output.
      But Using the n+1 method is buggy if there are later corrections and the sentence flow shifts in a way that this paragraph that was previously splitted to two pages now is placed on one and ends on the bottom of the page, whereas the next paragraph begins on the following page. In this case the previously page rage will still be set until the beginning of the second paragraph and thus include the second page wrongfully.

   TL;DR
   Please make the page-range type function "For Next # Of Paragraphs" disregard the style of the paragraph with the index maker.
   Please edit the function of "For Next # Of Paragraphs" in a way that the range ends at the end of the paragraph, not the beginning.

6. Indesign 2024 keeps opening!

   I use both Indesign 2023 and Indesign 2024 on MacOS Monterey. I already changed the Indesign files option to "open with Indesign 2023". But whenever I try to open an Indesign file both Indesign 2023 and 2024 open. I want to open the file with Indesign 2023. Even if 2023 is already opened it still opens Indesign cc2024 too. How do I stop 2024 doing that?

7. Alert is shown on opening documents in InDesign(v20.0.1) - "This file is already open by another user or another application."

   Yesterday I edited a file in Indesign V19.5.1. Now I can no longer open this and many of my previous design files. I get the error message: ‘This file is already open by another user or application. This file may be stored on a network server and cannot be opened until the other user closes it.

   I have updated to V20.0.1 and reinstalled V19.0. Both did not help. This bug has been around for a long time in different versions and it occurs regularly.

8. Opentype Superscript not displaying properly in 2025 on Mac M1

   Footnote references set to Opentype: Superior dont display properly in 2025 on OSx

   File displays fine in 2022

   This is using ID footnote references, so the footnote number (123) is ONE character

9. Les chiffres monétaire en millier d'Excel sont réduit sur InDesign

   Lorsque j'importe une base de donnée (xlsx) sur InDesign(v20.0.1), les chiffres monétaire en millier sont réduit à leur unité de millier.

   Par exemple, si j'importe 1000€ depuis Excel, ca devient 1 sur InDesign. Pour 2000€, 2.

   Sur les versions précédente de 2020 je n'avais pas ce bug.

   J'utilise la version 20.0.1 d'InDesign et le version d'Excel 16.91

   J'ai également essayé de changer les paramètres de séparateur de millier d'Excel, sans succès.

10. Grep function for deleting trailing whitespace deletes a paragraph mark before a table

    A paragraph mark before a table should not be considered trailing whitespace. Not sure what else to say. Maybe it's an easy fix?

    I posted the previous in Communities over 5 years ago on Sep 13, 2019 and it still hasn't been addressed.

    Is there any reason that a file merged directly to a PDF (rather than to an Indesign file, then saved as a PDF) would refuse to parse text variables set in InDesign?

    Document has text variables selected so that final will have a tag line with date and page count.

    When I merge my data to an InDesign file, then save as PDF, the tag line I created with text variables print. It works but it is very time consuming and eats up a lot of hard drive space.

    My tag line includes:

    File Name | Output Date/Time | Sheet: Page Number / Last Page Number

    "merged to indd then saved as PDF.png" shows how the tag line is supposed to appear.

    When I use the Data Merge Panel to select Merge to PDF, InDesign happily prints my file name, date and time, but ignores my text variables for the page number and last page number in document. It's treating my merge as if there is only one page and it's the same exact tag line.

    "Merged to pdf.png" is how the tag line looks when I merge to PDF. Note that EVERY page is page 1. Not great for the bindery operator who is cutting these out and trying to keep them all in order.

    Surely using the Data panel, InDesign understands that the resulting PDF will be more than one page considering there are over 6,000 records merging?

    What is going on? Can this be fixed? Have I found a bug?

12. Minor issues under 20.0.X

    Minor issues with Indesign 20.0
    Problems I am experiencing are linking two text frames, when clicking on a frame to select, it shifts position, it is very difficult to change the colors via the color swatches tab, read as if I do not want to select them, after repeated clicking it sometimes works. .
    When entering a new document, entering dimensions, they jump back before I have been able to confirm and everything has to be entered again, etc...
    Update to 20.0.1 does not help everything under iOS 15.1.1 on MacBook Pro, but also on 14.X on iMac, same problems with Indesign 20.0.1

13. Home Screen Displays Incorrect Last-Opened Dates

    1. v20.0
    2. During the beginning of a new month, navigate to the Home Screen where it will display thumbnail previews of recent projects with approximated last-opened dates.
    3. The approximated last-opened dates should match when the file was last accessed, regardless of the calendar date.
    4. That number is incorrectly showing all of my projects opened just days ago as showing "1 month ago," likely owing to it being a new month.

    This issue is also present in Photoshop and I suspect all other Adobe apps.

14. [ID-4230173]Custom Workspace is not retained.

    InDesign 2025 workspace resets to basic/essentials every time i open the program or another document. I have a workspace saved and the program is not honoring that.

15. [InDesign 2025, 20.0.1][Win11 23H2]Installed ICC Color Profiles Sometimes Become Unavailable After System Shutdown

    My Win11 has fast boot disabled, so it gets completely shut down rather than just hibernated.

    Once I shut down the computer and start it again, sometimes all installed ICC profiles disappear from View > Proof Setup > Custom... > Device to Simulate

    They reappear after deleting the following files:

    1) C:\Users<username>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Color\ACECache11.lst

    2) C:\Users<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Color\ACEConfigCache2.lst

16. Bug - Overprint not working correctly

    I have noticed colours not displaying correctly when overprinting. It is happening on images, blocks of colour, everything.

    It seems that Cyan won't overprint Cyan. Magenta won't overprint Magenta. Yellow won't overprint yellow.

    I've tried all the colour profiles but that doesn't help. I have created a pdf from InDesign to illustrate the issue. The stars point to the incorrect overprints.

    I believe it is also happening in Illustrator.

    I updated my apps hoping that might help but I have the same problem on the latest versions.

    I've working in printing for a long time and this seems like it might be a bug.

    Using Indesign version 20.1.0.

17. Drag and Drop from MacOS Preview App

    I would love to be able to drag and drop images from the macOS Preview app instead of having to drag and drop images from finder. When the images imported aren't named properly it can be annoying to find the right one. Usually I have images opened in the Preview app and would love to just be able to drag and drop them from there.

18. Applying the Brush to the Arc Only

    When we apply a brush, it applies it to the entire angled circle. When we draw an angular circle, can we add the option to apply brushes only to the arc? The color of the straight lines should be "none" so that the circle is not distorted.

19. indesign reverting unit selection

    Each time I set up a new document in InDesign (and only in indesign this happens), it defaults to Pica measurement (my preference is set to mm) and when I change it and begin to fill out the measurements, it reverts back to pica 2-3 times before it'll stay on mm.

    I've tried:
    -re installing
    -changing/checking preferences
    -resettting preferences

    Unsure if a bug or something I've missed.
